Q: Second to last word, clojure

LetharionGrab the input file, and output the second to last word on every line. Can I make it shorter and/or more efficient? I'm surprised by the performance. @Jamal Post an answer (I would upvote that).

Just for that point? I don't want to put that as an answer alone, but I can always look for something else that was missed.

@rolfl Two locks this week. Boy, things are escalating real fast...

Hairy times indeed.
You know that you can't keep it up at this pace forever .... ?
(and keep your studies up).....

Well, like before, I'll let things cool down a bit. At least the existing answers can still be edited.

1:32 AM
yeah.

I know. That's why I should not be the only one around to moderate. This site is getting more and more active.

I expect things to get a shake-up sometime.

Maybe you could ask TPTB to initiate an election, whether or not the site has graduated.

I've reached out to the CMs already, so they're aware. I'm just not sure if they're currently talking to the other moderators and/or contacting prospective ones.

palac made mention of activity

1:35 AM
@ChrisW I'd still like to hear from the CMs first. They probably won't give us additional mods, but I'm not sure. If someone wants to start up a Meta post on this, then you may do so. It could shed some light on this.

@Jamal cheer up .... there's a tunnel, and there's light at the end... (oncoming train and all that).

lol
2

@Jamal I don't know what to say / what you're think of re. a meta-post. Something like, "Jamal is overworked and could we have a second moderator please? How about an election?"

Perhaps, if you want. I might at least mention something more general, like a lack of visible activity from other moderators (especially on Meta).

@ChrisW - the trick is to be tactful.... as a monkey, I have had to learn this in increments.
See, you cannot imply that Jamal is incapable.... and you cannot hint that the other mods are dormant (they are not.... I saw some thngs go through recently).....

1:47 AM
@rolfl That's why I don't know what to say: because I fear the above is tactless.

So, I think, if you are going to post to meta.... and I am not agreeing you should, that you should reference it to other sites... for example, we compare size-wise to say ask.ubuntu , or game-dev.....

@rolfl I'm also not hearing anything from them in the mod room or anywhere else. Not one super-ping. There is failed communication here, and we're supposed to be a team.

@Jamal Perhaps you should/have said that to TPTB.

TPTB -> ?

1:53 AM
There are some people who are here every day. So, suitable election candidates.
TPTB -> "The Powers That Be" aka the authorities aka SE employees. Maybe those who Jamal calls "CM".

Ahh.. thanks.
CM is community manager.... staff at SE. I have had reason to speak with them before. I have not been disappointed.
although they don't apparently answer their e-mail when on holiday.
Very distressing

@ChrisW I think I've mentioned that already. They too have noticed this drop in activity, so it's not just me.

@Jamal I'm sure

So I don't know that Meta is the right venue for such talk.

@ChrisW If not, then we just have to wait for something to happen. If we were close to graduation, then it wouldn't be necessary; elections will flush the mod pool.

1:57 AM
Yeah, that would be true.
I was reading up on the graduation process, that can take time.

Instead of just waiting, tell CM that your/moderator situation is unsustainable, and what to do?

I have contacted Tim Post by email a few times. He then referred me to Pops (the one who activated my powers), and he is aware of this. I suppose I just have to ask again.

Suggest having an election even though we haven't graduated yet?

@ChrisW - I don't think that an election will happen without graduation.

@Jamal You don't want to complain? Prefer to have someone else say it? On Meta?

2:01 AM
@Jamal - how long did it take from when that first Meta post was put up to when you were actually installed as a mod?

Slight problem is that I'm happy with your moderation so I have little to complain about. Maybe if you took a day off... :-)

I think a meta post would be effective... but it would still take time.

@ChrisW Oh, I was complaining (just not harshly). Like I said, I could ask Pops again, but I'm still not sure if something will happen. If you do create a Meta post, it would be based on the community, not just me. As a mod, I have closer connections to SE for such issues.
@ChrisW Thanks. :-) It's not based on my work, though. Sites should have a team. This helps with 1.) checks and balances (mods can undo actions of other mods) and 2.) collaborate on short-term or long-term issues. Also, if a user really gets under another mod's skin, a different mod should step in while the other steps back.

Holy crap... I pity the mod who has to check and balance all your edits.
And, here's the peanut gallery, with sleepy twins.

Nah, edits would be different. That's not a moderator ability. One example would be deleting or locking posts incorrectly.

2:06 AM
@rolfl wait a bit, looks like I gotta catch up here!

Yeah, you do.
How about a @Mat'sMug ding in the interim?

wow.. so how about we have another informal "election"? Worked pretty well the first time!

Yup. Nominee count: 2. :-)

Basing that on what? Malachi's suggestions?

huh?

2:14 AM
It was just Malachi and I who posted on the first informal election post.

I would have, but was quite reluctant to nominate myself back then, fear of the unknown I guess.

Mar 24 at 16:33, by Malachi
@Jamal we could vote them off the island and elect @Mat'sMug and @rolfl to Moderator Status

oh

@rolfl Yeah, I wasn't referring to that (and I think I sort of missed it as well).
But, if SE is okay with just adding mods, then that's fine with me.

Dum-de-dum.... tra-la-la
I am sure he was not the only one.

2:17 AM
an informal election could perhaps speed up the process in a similar way it did with @Jamal's nomation
lol.. @rolfl you were contacted? (checks inbox)

Right. The process is done by email, so I have no awareness of it.
In a way, rolfl can become a modrater. He just needs a gun in his hand. :-)

@hatchet if you fleshed that comment a bit, it would make a nice answer. CR answers can address any part, or aspect of the code. If you can make a comment and expand on it and relate it to the OP, then you can probably write an excellent CR answer ;) — Mat's Mug 13 secs ago
