@SimonAndréForsberg nope

@Foobar It's never too late to start

@SimonAndréForsberg i know maybe this weekend or tonight :)

@Foobar Or if you'd like to spawn new Zombies for us to shoot at, that's perfectly OK as well.

I try to spawn a zombie on a regular basis. Doctor am I normal?

What's exactly a zombie? an unanswered question or a non upvoted question? or a non upvoted and unanswered ? with a time parameter? a day/week/month old?

2:08 PM
@Foobar every unanswered question is a zombie
every unvoted answer is a target
FIRE AT WILL!

unanswered with or without comments?

@Foobar Both with or without comments

Being unanswered is all it takes :)
It is said a baby zombie dies every time a new question is answered (within the first hour)... (removed)

@Foobar You are also very welcome to vote on all questions and answers
@retailcoder (removed)

Yeah, vote vote vote, like there's no tomorrow!

2:12 PM
Now I feel like creating a game, "Zombies vs. Unicorns (and Waffles)" (Waffles are allied with Unicorns)

i didn't see i get the upvote privilege

lol
@Foobar now you can :)
(1 vote left for the day)
@SimonAndréForsberg make it a FPS à la CoD :)

@retailcoder Yeah, just give me a couple of years to make it :)

People we're slowing down - 90.65% answered (last I checked was 90.68%... looks like there's a new zombie in town)

@retailcoder I might answer some of the 11 unanswered questions in my favorites later today.

Max
2:43 PM
Dont you have work to do instead? :P

@Max Simon can multi-task, and when he's done with work and gets home he sticks around till 3am... I'll check his favorites later - no pressure, @SimonAndréForsberg :)

Max
hehe

@retailcoder Normally, I'm actually always home. I don't have a full job :/

@SimonAndréForsberg no wonder you score 1504 in 27 days then!
(@rolfl is just a special monkey)

@retailcoder Yeah, exactly. I am impressed with @rolfl though, who both has a job and scores more than me

2:50 PM
@Max I see you're the next highest-scoring new user after @rolfl and @SimonAndréForsberg - keep it up (watch out, there's one right behind you)!

Max
i am?
Where's this high score? Link?

Max
nice

Me and @rolfl are nutz

@rolfl has beaten my hard-earned score!
(with 0 questions asked and fewer answers)
@SimonAndréForsberg nutz, you are.

2:57 PM
@retailcoder nutz, you are too :)

@SimonAndréForsberg nah, I just do my best and my best isn't enough - most I earned was 150pts/day, 2 days recently - never hit the rep cap, ever. Well once on SO, when I accidentally earned a 350pts bounty...
You guys are like CR's JonSkeet/EricLippert tandem!

Q: How to efficiently refactor Java to Clojure?

m0skit0I'm writing a simple game in Java and I want to learn Clojure, so I've decided to refactor my current Java code to Clojure. The problem is that I've coded so much in object-oriented languages that I cannot see how to do it functionally. To be concrete, I have a Map<String, Country> inside a sin...

(everyone) Hi Rolf!

Happy thanksgiving to the Americans,. don;t you wath that Alien movie today, with Will Smith?

@rolfl Independence Day? Thought that was Jul.4th!

" Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation"

Thanksgiving .... we survived ;-)

Is today thanksgiving? Happy Thanksgiving in that case

(people here have no appreciation of obscure south-african/british/canadian humour
I am very upset that I have a few zero-vote answers out there.... feel very under-appreciated.
With all the americans on holiday today I no only lose the voting power, but I lose the questions to answer as well.

Tell me about it...
Oh yeah, and happy Thanksgiving! :D

@Jamal Canadians had that holiday like a month ago (it's just another day off for us!), but thanks anyway!

@retailcoder: Eh, we Americans just appreciate that one day to have an excuse for eating more food.

3:40 PM
@retailcoder don't down-play the effect American Thanks-giving has on the canadian economy .... we get some great sales up here.... if you can stand the bunfight at the store, and take time off to line up.
@Jamal - check your flag queue .... ;-)

Kinda hard to tell. I'll let the flag sit for a while.

@rolfl I know, this black friday thing started getting big just a little before I left the retail industry.

And it gets bigger every year. Eventually, the advertising will start in the summer!

@Jamal Sounds like Swedish Christmas shopping...

@Jamal well the merchandise planning for it actually starts about a month prior to the buying budgets being issued for the product to hit the shelves 6 months later, so that would be around March/April, but the "fall season" actually starts in July so the budgets are pretty much set in stone by the end of January!

By the way, I've recently contacted Tim Post (an SE community manager), and he says that I'm doing quite well so far with moderation. Is there anything you think I could do better?

How's your cooking?

And have you voted yet?

Yes, I already have.

Just checking, you know, it's a slow day, and I need ot know who's on the naughty/nice list.

Santa?!?

Jamal, I've been watching you .....

4:12 PM
Santa's a baboon?!?

ape, elf, really, same thing

Santa's a shapeshifter?!?

You know, you can always tell an elf, .....
but you can't tell him much!

I wonder if Santa can give rep for those who are nice, and take it away from those who are naughty...

4:14 PM
@Jamal Santa's not Robin Hood!
Any news on the ?

Ah, yes. I can sign us up for that shortly. I'll put status-completed on it when it's done.

Cool! I wonder what my first hat is going to be :)

The baby unicorn-killer hat, apparently...

lol
that would have to be a hidden hat :)
...and that would make our thread uber-famous throughout SE!!

4:22 PM
@Jamal That was exactly what I was aiming for :)
Ooooh, an Android question! Time to kill a Zombie!

@retailcoder I got the electorate badge last night

We are now signed up for Winter Bash!

Q: C code polishing and re-design to C++ OOP principles

TomoyoseI would like to ask a question that many of you may find naive, so excuse me for that. I am coding a program that so far it has been built step by step while reading something like a manual, so it is not so well-coded in terms of OOP and design. I am a bit rusty in C++ coding as there has been so...

@Malachi Thanks

@retailcoder: I can add that. Thanks!

@StackExchange fruit loops?

Just answered one Java Android question and now there's two more? This gotta be my lucky day!
OMG, I think I just started to cry when I saw that loop question....

@SimonAndréForsberg: Challenge Accepted?

this 'for loop hell'.... ;p

@Jamal Should I just tell that guy to delete that code and give him a fully functional completely different solution instead? I wrote code he could have use for not so long ago

@SimonAndréForsberg: It's up to you.

4:54 PM
@Jamal I think I'm gonna read that other question first...

@all bye

@Foobar Bye. Welcome back another time
@Jamal I think this question should be closed for non-working code. It seems like he wants to solve a problem and I don't think the code is ready for a review: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/36301/…

@SimonAndréForsberg true, but the poor guy could use some help :)

@retailcoder Which one? The one with for-loops or the one with non-working code?

I downloaded a bunch of python stuff and I can't remember how to run the code so it will be like console

4:59 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg the homework question that's not working

@retailcoder So the guy with the for-loops don't need our help then??

that's *not what I said :)

the int issue is just a minor case i think

@retailcoder Lol, just messing with you :)
@retailcoder I agree that the one with the homework question needs help, but Code Review isn't for solving problems with code.
Although one might argue that the holy mother of loops is definitely about solving a problem...
Alright, for-loops here I come! Get ready to learn something, OP! Challenge accepted!

Approx 1h 15min for that answer. I'm sure it can be improved but I'm totally out of strength right now.

6:33 PM
@Malachi: Do you happen to remember that one question about code review book recommendations (mentioned here)? I'm thinking it could be worth resurrecting, but it would get a historical lock.

@Jamal, I don't think that I actually read that question

@Malachi: You have actually made an edit on it (the deleted one, not my Meta post). I know you cannot view it now, though.

lol
I don't remember, have so many things that go through my mind that I barely keep much of it

@Malachi: That's fine, then. I may just keep it deleted until another moderator gives the green light for locking.

cool

6:38 PM
@Jamal do we even have 1 locked question here?

@retailcoder: not at the moment that I'm aware of.

then I agree with the historical lock, just so we have an anti-example on the site :)
but I'll let the mods decide :)

Ok, I'm ready again, where's my next Zombie!?

Q: First attempt at dealing with command-line args

retailcoderA little while ago I was fiddling with dependency-injection and came up with this small WPF application that I can launch with command-line arguments. Not only this was my first experiment with DI, it was also my first experiment with parsing command-line arguments. The result works nicely, but ...

I need to get back into C# programming

@Malachi it's company code.. I'll zip it and try to email it tonight, but for educational purposes only :)

@retailcoder, it's all good, don't send it. I think I have some projects on my Portable harddrive
let's see if I can keep my Hard Drive connected with this crappy cord

So, who do you think will win the race to 2K rep? :-)

7:25 PM
@Jamal between who and who? ...I think @rolfl is winning.

Between anyone here who hasn't yet reached that level.

@Jamal I also think Rolf. I also think that at least one of retailcoder and Malachi will be before me to 2k.

@Malachi will beat me - I only get (answer) votes when I link to my answers here :)

@retailcoder: I'd link mine, but none of you are C++ reviewers. :/ And I could only assess some non-C++ or C answers.

7:40 PM
@Jamal Just because we're not C++ reviewers doesn't mean that we can't spot a good C++ review when we see one.

@SimonAndréForsberg: I've had Malachi look at it yesterday, but he said he couldn't understand it. Nonetheless, I'll link it here for the rest of you.

(out of ammo)

@Jamal I'm going to actually try to understand this so it will take a while for me, but you will most likely get an upvote when I'm done :)

@retailcoder: No worries. There's always the next day. Do you have any feedback at least? It's okay if you don't.
@SimonAndréForsberg: Okay. All but one point was contributed by one of my professors, and I've confirmed his recommendation with my own testing. If anything, the class relationships between C++ and Java shouldn't matter here. My answer is entirely algorithm, best-practice, and efficiency.

7:56 PM
@Jamal Upvote given
@Jamal Why not cast the result from std::sqrt() to an int before the loop? (Or have I misunderstood something?)

@SimonAndréForsberg: I think I have tried that before, but was still slowed down with the call (the function itself is kinda slow).

ok
yeah, I know it's slow I just didn't know it was that slow

@SimonAndréForsberg: I'm trying to find more info on SO, but for now I'm trusting my professor's suggestion.

@SimonAndréForsberg .... i have been workin on a messy-for loop answer as well, for about 30 minutes, but those minutes have been spread out over the entire day.....

@rolfl That's interesting, considering the question was posted about 3 hours ago.
Or perhaps it's a different question?

8:07 PM
Nope, you're right.....
My brain is scattered... I even answred the question....
What I didn't do, is put ina full solution, because, it is a combination/permutation problem.
I only suggested recursion.
Now I have an almost-working implementation.

Actually I have retracted my close vote. I think I fell into the over-thinking trap - if the OP is aware of known issues, but isn't asking for answers that address them, I think it's fine to keep the question open. — retailcoder 31 secs ago
Thoughts?

@rolfl Yes, I realized when I had finished my answer that technically, there is one thing I am missing in the answer (I'm only considering the case for when he builds an anagram of all letters), first it needs to pick the letters and then create the permutations for them.

Today my son was dared to lick a pole. He did.

8:23 PM
@rolfl My thought was more "I'm hungry", but yeah... your thought works too.
@retailcoder I think you did good mentioning that in your answer, that SO should be used for problems.

I just now understood what the OP meant by "However, it's bringing back the references to the object that is passed." - and that's after I retracted my close vote. I agree it should be closed as non-working code, as the OP seems to be asking for solutions to the issues in his code.
@Jamal can you step in and just put it on hold?

@retailcoder: Which question?

Has it ever happened to anyone to get an error notification (from production code) with a stack trace that didn't quite match the code you're looking at, only to realize 3 hours later that the correct version of the app was installed only for your account on the prod server? I feel dumb.. so dumb...
@Jamal just flagged a "Thank you all, here's my final code" answer: codereview.stackexchange.com/a/36312/23788

8:54 PM
@retailcoder: You mean the entire answer is NAA, or just the "thank you" should be removed?

NAA all the way IMHO

@retailcoder did you notice that my Avatar is a Zombie Version of me?

lol

@retailcoder: I think I'll wait a bit to see what the OP says. For now, I'll remove the "thank you".

@Jamal you're the boss! :)

A: Writing the Word Equivalent of a Check (Cheque) Amount

Simon André ForsbergYes! Your code is more complicated than it needs to be. You treat the String as a String instead of first parsing it as a number and treating it as a number. It is more complicated to treat chars than numbers when you want to use them as numbers. You have some code duplication near the logic of...

@rolfl Gratulations on Necromancer :D
@Jamal Nooooo, you can't leave now!!
@retailcoder Whoa, you still had a star left? I am impressed!

@sim @malachi is the one that runs out of stars; I run out of real ammo :)

@retailcoder Ah, yes! Sorry... mixed up you two :P
I guess all I can do now is to hope that three people will see my answer within the next 20 minutes and think that it is worthy of three upvotes. That would give me another day of 200 rep.
Or should I be happy with the 175 rep I already got today perhaps?

@SimonAndréForsberg I liked your answer

@Malachi Yay! Thank you :) (No wait... that's exactly what I shouldn't say according to @Jamal)
(removed)
@Jamal Does starring a chat message count as an "upvote"?

I guess it's somewhat nervewrecking to be an aspiring legend..

11:48 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg: I'd say it's like upvoting a comment, except you can get badges from chat messages.

@Jamal You can get badges from comment upvotes too.

@SimonAndréForsbergL Oh yeah, you're right. I completely forgot about Pundit.

Pundit - Left 10 comments with score of 5 or more

I've probably forgotten about that because few people here have earned it.

yeah, not easy to get comment upvotes here
It's going to be even harder to get this one:
Outspoken - Posted 10 messages in chat that were starred by 10 different users
perhaps if it would be changed to:
Outspoken - Posted 100 messages in chat that all were starred by the same user
Then at least everyone except @Malachi could get it.

11:51 PM
@sim what's even harder is knowing where you stand with getting that one. I'm sure I'm close but no clue how close..

@retailcoder I totally agree. There's been a couple of non-regular chatters around here lately, but I don't think they've starred so much.

Lol I got "outspoken" like last week or so :)
Or was it "talkative"... or both...

@retailcoder On the badge list it seems like no-one has been awared Outspoken here yet
