What's exactly a zombie? an unanswered question or a non upvoted question? or a non upvoted and unanswered ? with a time parameter? a day/week/month old?
@Max Simon can multi-task, and when he's done with work and gets home he sticks around till 3am... I'll check his favorites later - no pressure, @SimonAndréForsberg :)
@SimonAndréForsberg nah, I just do my best and my best isn't enough - most I earned was 150pts/day, 2 days recently - never hit the rep cap, ever. Well once on SO, when I accidentally earned a 350pts bounty...
You guys are like CR's JonSkeet/EricLippert java tandem!
I'm writing a simple game in Java and I want to learn Clojure, so I've decided to refactor my current Java code to Clojure. The problem is that I've coded so much in object-oriented languages that I cannot see how to do it functionally.
To be concrete, I have a Map<String, Country> inside a sin...
I have done the following code for the testing a web-service.
I wonder, is my style a correct one for using OOP in JavaScript.
Thanks!

" Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation"
@retailcoder don't down-play the effect American Thanks-giving has on the canadian economy .... we get some great sales up here.... if you can stand the bunfight at the store, and take time off to line up.
@Jamal well the merchandise planning for it actually starts about a month prior to the buying budgets being issued for the product to hit the shelves 6 months later, so that would be around March/April, but the "fall season" actually starts in July so the budgets are pretty much set in stone by the end of January!
Got this design for getting rid of checking network availability and informing user of errors. Is it good at all? Please, help.
Overall point is to fire server call as short as possible:

By the way, I've recently contacted Tim Post (an SE community manager), and he says that I'm doing quite well so far with moderation. Is there anything you think I could do better?
I would like to ask a question that many of you may find naive, so excuse me for that. I am coding a program that so far it has been built step by step while reading something like a manual, so it is not so well-coded in terms of OOP and design. I am a bit rusty in C++ coding as there has been so...
I'm trying to find all the 3, 4, 5, and 6 letter words given 6 letters. I am finding them by comparing every combination of the 6 letters to an ArrayList of words called sortedDictionary. I have worked on the code a good bit to get it to this point. I tested how many six letter words are check...
this program is meant to prompt a user for address information. Identify the address that would come first by zip code, and then print that address. I'm having a couple of issues, 1) when I try to assign an int value to the apartment variable I get an error. Same thing with the zip code portio...
@Jamal Should I just tell that guy to delete that code and give him a fully functional completely different solution instead? I wrote code he could have use for not so long ago
@Jamal I think this question should be closed for non-working code. It seems like he wants to solve a problem and I don't think the code is ready for a review: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/36301/…
I think we're over-thinking it.
Questions should include working code.
That's because we don't want CR to overlap with SO. We want to review working code because we're not here to solve OP's problems. Thus, explicitly asking for help fixing an issue is off-topic, and should be redirected to Sta...
As you can see below, I'm going through the property of an entity to get the field names and values for an audit trail system. However, it's bringing back the references to the object that is passed.
For example:
careerReference=System.Data.Objects.DataClasses.EntityReference1
absanal=Hallmar...
@Malachi: Do you happen to remember that one question about code review book recommendations (mentioned here)? I'm thinking it could be worth resurrecting, but it would get a historical lock.
@retailcoder Yeah, give me a reason to close that question and I'd gladly agree with you (and that's not only because of the long code block within the question)
@retailcoder Nevermind, just saw something that I can write
A little while ago I was fiddling with dependency-injection and came up with this small WPF application that I can launch with command-line arguments.
Not only this was my first experiment with DI, it was also my first experiment with parsing command-line arguments. The result works nicely, but ...
Factors::calculate() can be improved by:
eliminating the cast to float and call to std::sqrt()
avoiding the call overhead can help with speed
the casting was only necessary for std::sqrt()
making the loop condition an integer type
for-loops shouldn't increment towards a floating-point valu...
@retailcoder: No worries. There's always the next day. Do you have any feedback at least? It's okay if you don't.
@SimonAndréForsberg: Okay. All but one point was contributed by one of my professors, and I've confirmed his recommendation with my own testing. If anything, the class relationships between C++ and Java shouldn't matter here. My answer is entirely algorithm, best-practice, and efficiency.
@SimonAndréForsberg .... i have been workin on a messy-for loop answer as well, for about 30 minutes, but those minutes have been spread out over the entire day.....
Actually I have retracted my close vote. I think I fell into the over-thinking trap - if the OP is aware of known issues, but isn't asking for answers that address them, I think it's fine to keep the question open. — retailcoder31 secs ago
@rolfl Yes, I realized when I had finished my answer that technically, there is one thing I am missing in the answer (I'm only considering the case for when he builds an anagram of all letters), first it needs to pick the letters and then create the permutations for them.
I just now understood what the OP meant by "However, it's bringing back the references to the object that is passed." - and that's after I retracted my close vote. I agree it should be closed as non-working code, as the OP seems to be asking for solutions to the issues in his code.

Has it ever happened to anyone to get an error notification (from production code) with a stack trace that didn't quite match the code you're looking at, only to realize 3 hours later that the correct version of the app was installed only for your account on the prod server? I feel dumb.. so dumb...
I've just started programming in C and need a bit of help with converting my pseudocode into C.
I am doing a C list insertion sort.
Here is the peseudocode
otherwise
use a loop to find the last item in the list which should precede the new person
set the new person...
You did really well with the for-loop..... my rep is only 110 for the day.... If I can get 15 more today, then maybe I can hit 2K tomorrow .... 2K in 30 days.... plus a silver badge (unless someone gets me necromancer first).
Yes! Your code is more complicated than it needs to be.
You treat the String as a String instead of first parsing it as a number and treating it as a number. It is more complicated to treat chars than numbers when you want to use them as numbers.
You have some code duplication near the logic of...
@rolfl Gratulations on Necromancer :D
@Jamal Nooooo, you can't leave now!!
@retailcoder Whoa, you still had a star left? I am impressed!
@retailcoder Ah, yes! Sorry... mixed up you two :P
I guess all I can do now is to hope that three people will see my answer within the next 20 minutes and think that it is worthy of three upvotes. That would give me another day of 200 rep.
Or should I be happy with the 175 rep I already got today perhaps?
It's going to be even harder to get this one: Outspoken - Posted 10 messages in chat that were starred by 10 different users
perhaps if it would be changed to: Outspoken - Posted 100 messages in chat that all were starred by the same user Then at least everyone except @Malachi could get it.
I have written some sort routines for PROGRESS 4GL/ABL and wanting to get some input whether these sorts can be improved. And whether my sorts are true to name. And I would also be very interested in any suggestions how to change the Quick sort to do a proper numeric sort as well.
