10:00
Destaved sounds right; if you'd succeeded With Style (3 or more points more than you needed), the other would be more appropriate.
nod nod
You've got a free invoke on that aspect, and the aspect will last until Antorell Overcomes it or until the end of the scene (unless appropriate for it to continue).
cool
can you tag by accident, btw?
is it possible for Thursday to say something that tags his Not My Father aspect without knowing about it?
you can narrate it that way
Yes, so long as it doesn't get abusive.
10:02
you the player don't accidentally do it
okay
"You harpy! Princesses don't behave like that!" Antorell is furious, and retreats into the woods to Quickly search for his staff before the furious lady beats him with her stick.
and the group (whoever is here) generally decides when it's abusive
4d6
10:04
I'm not sure what that is
Defend?
He's making an Overcome check to try to remove the Destaved aspect.
oh, right
Quick Defense, but no stunt
He needs to get at least as many shifts as you got on the check which placed the aspect (in this case 1).
stepping in his way
4d6
10:05
+1 +3
versus his ... +0 +2?
He rolled a 0, +2 for Quickly.
He'll use the remaining tag on the snake to try to keep you from getting to him in time, for a tie: +4/+4.
But you've got a free tag on Destaved, which would be terribly appropriate to use here.
Thursday's picked up on the little finger motions that he uses when he tries to do something magical
So as he tries to summon the waterbeast, she just thwacks his fingers.
"No, you unnatural harridan! Unhand me!"
lol
this is hillarious
Antorell is now a zone away into the Forest to the west, and still Destaved. Thursday is on the west bank of the stream.
Thursday's turn.
10:09
okay
so
I think Thursday's goal here, now that she's (somewhat) winning is to get information about the curse and how to remove it
Then she'll want to either take him out with (social?) stress or force him to concede, I think.
okay
and she's also picked up on something
so she follows him into the forest
"Why on earth do you want to marry a harpy and harridan like me, then? Oh, just imagine, dear, what the bedroom would be like..."
that's probably a Clever or a Quick social Attack
Sounds clever to me.
4d6
10:13
+1 +2
Antorell is going to defend Sneakily, because he doesn't want to give away his real motives.
4d6
+1
hehehehe
Bah, maths. 0 +1.
10:16
-2 +1, right?
...right.
-1, then, for a total of... four shifts. Wow.
yeah
where is all this math coming from?
Antorell blows up. "You're a pathetic excuse for a princess and you're worse at heroics! If I didn't--" he turns bright red and clams up.
"Oh, our honeymoon night would be glorious. You'd wake up with six broken ribs and the tiniest littlest... ego."
"If you didn't what, Anty dearest?"
Antorell continues to try Quickly searching for his staff and ignoring Thursday, and I think that "honeymoon" bit is an excellent defense against his success.
4d6
10:19
+1 +3 = +4.
a clever defense, then?
Aye.
4d6
10:20
...
hahahha
+2
And I think we're both out of free tags.
so unless I spend my last fate point, he's going to get it back, right?
Right.
Even if you do, he'll get it back "at minor cost."
right
okay, I'll let this resolve
"Hah!" Antorell pulls his staff out of a bush and wheels around. "You'll never find out until it's too late, you miserable middle child."
Thursday's turn.
10:23
Thursday's eyes narrow.
"What about my family?"
(oh, balls, give me ten minutes)
No problem.
okay, back, sorry
Welcome back. No worries.
mmm. she's going to ... knock the staff away again. Because she was getting somewhere when he kept looking for it
Quickly dart in and Create Advantage
4d6
10:33
+1 +3
Antorell's seen this one; he's going to Forcefully hang onto it.
4d6
but
he sucks
apparently no he's not?
-1 +3, right?
-1 +4.... +3 vs +4, Thursday's win.
10:34
what?
oh, right, he has a +4
stupid +4s
"Oh no you don't, you little monkey."
Destaved Again
Narrate?
Before he can do anything fancy with that stick of his, Thursday darts in and knocks it away again. "You're not getting that back until you answer my questions."
10:38
Antorell glares for a moment, then relaxes. "Very well, Princess, I'm a reasonable man. If you'd like to talk, by all means. Let us talk."
He'd like to Sneakily create advantage (aspect on Thursday: "He Seems Reasonable").
4d6
oof
and he is
That's a +4.
I don't think I'll get my stunt here
I don't think so.
10:40
so, what, a clever defense
4d6
[blink]
high numbers for everyone!
+3 +2
Okay then.
I am amused :P
10:41
hehehe
jerk beaten up by a girl
Please narrate Thursday's reaction and her turn.
socially anyway
Thursday glares. Thursday turns her head to look significantly at her withering left arm. Thursday turns her head back. Thursday glares.
For her turn...
she can ask about the curse or the thing he let slip earlier
mmm
compel on Running From Responsibility to ask about the curse?
Asking a personal question instead of about her family? Sure. That'll come back to bite her.
yep
she figures they can probably handle it, whatever it is... right?
oh balls fire alarm
gah
bb... in a bit
10:47
Man, not your night.
indeed
morning, but yes
back now
So, Thursday's gonna ask about the curse.
yep
"So tell me, Mister Reasonable, what on earth is this stupid curse and how do I get rid of it?"
is that a social attack?
or a social Create Advantage, for the tag Mister Reasonable?
Hmm. Up to you.
11:01
I'll go for the create advantage, I think
Cleverly? or Quickly?
or maybe even Sneakily...
sounds like clever
That looks pretty durn forceful to me.
actually, yea
Blunt, obvious, direct.
4d6
11:02
so +0 +2
durnit :P
Defending flashily; he wants to speechify.
4d6
ouch
So... +5.
11:03
+4
+1 +3
Ooh, right.
She's going to invoke Destaved Again, because seriously, a wizard without a staff is just a guy in some poofy clothes
So you get a fragile aspect.
and a fate point to invoke Cursed, because she's not impressed by this jerk.
Sounds reasonable to invoke your curse aspect to find out about it.
So you have 2 shifts on this aspect.
11:05
yep. so by social pressure he is now Mister Reasonable :P
"A clever invention of mine! Elegant, isn't it?" He loves to gloat. "I call it 'Withered on the Vine.' The cure is very traditional, really: Marry me."
"Does it still work if I kill you afterwards?"
(man, she does not like this guy)
(I honestly hadn't realised before this session)
that's still good
learning about your character through role play is great
11:09
I knew she wouldn't be his biggest fan, no
but I wasn't expecting her to casually consider killing him
I mean - she's not being caustic just for the sake of it. This is also genuine curiosity - does it work if she kills him afterward? Is this a workable solution?
"You know, I think it wouldn't have time to kick in..." he pauses for dramatic effect before Flashily Creating Advantage (aspect, self: "not to be trifled with"). "...before my father led the Society of Wizards to raze your kingdom in revenge. So you'd get to watch before you died!"
4d6
+1 +3, yes?
Yes.
Can you justify a defense roll, or shall it ride as an aspect vs 0?
oh I can totally justify a defense roll
it even triggers her stunt
11:12
Ahah.
"The Society of Wizards? Those little old men who can only do anything by hiding away in the shadows? Razing a kingdom? Don't make me laugh."
4d6
...
Cat
Cat
(Hey all :)
(Hey @Cat!)
Cat
Cat
11:16
(Oooo...stick it to that wizard)
Miiight want to spend that last FP on a reroll?
I am going to yes
tag poise
(he is getting his ass handed to him)
4d6
11:16
(the wizard I mean)
still terrible!
-2 +3 +2
So that's a... 3? vs his 4?
yea
mmm
invoke Mister Reasonable
Cat
Cat
(oops, gotta go - good luck with the wizard!)
(kay, cya!)
11:18
Antorell splutters about unknown power and secret plans. Thursday's turn.
Thursday is in a bit of a pinch...
eh. she's just going to try and force a resolution
"So, I can marry you and have you locked up in our dankest dungeon, and that'll get rid of the curse. Any other options?"
forceful social attack
4d6
+2
He'll defend Carefully; it's not his best option, but it's the one that makes the most sense.
4d6
11:23
+1.
so one shift, because we're all out?
So one shift of stress, unless you have another tag up your sleeve that I've lost track of.
nope
His 1-stress box is already filled in, so it rolls up to the 2-stress box.
right
hey that's convenient :p
11:24
yep
So, failed to be careful...
it would be weak, or broken, if it worked some other way
"I don't know! It's not exactly been field-tested, you ignorant minx!"
"So the dungeon it is, then?"
"Why don't you start asking the questions that matter, or stop wasting my time!"
11:27
(meta: am I missing some other question that matters?)
(I'm compelling "Thursday will be my bride!" to make his Forceful social attack impatiently reveal that there are more important questions.)
4d6
+3.
(oh, right. so does this effectively erase my earlier compel on Running?)
Sure.
11:29
a quick defense - "Questions that matt- oh yeah! Why on earth do you want to marry me anyway?"
4d6
yikes
+3
so you get a boost?
Aye.
Antorell now has A Card Up His Sleeve.
mmm.
Thursday's turn.
11:31
I assume he sort of does a shifty eyed thing at the question
so she's going to press it
"Why, indeed? The pawn never needs to know the chessmaster's strategy."
"Answer the bloody question, or I'll hit you so hard your father will feel it."
forceful social
4d6
oh, ouch
+1 overall
oooh
man
maybe his ass isn't getting kicked so hard
11:33
He's trying to be Sneaky about this, scheming and plotting and all, so...
4d6
well, he still only has one stress box left
+1.
true
Grats on your boost.
11:33
and you haven't suffered any stress yet right?
nope
What's your boost gonna be?
Narrate it?
what's his response, first?
Antorell's eyes get a little wide, then reflective.
While he fears the promised pain, somehow Thursday's phrasing amused him also.
Thursday's nonstop glaring notices this little flicker. Huh. What's that about?
Thursday has now Hit A Nerve.
Anty's turn
11:38
Antorell is going to concede: he walks away but gives you something in return.
yea, fair enough
Antorell grimaces. "Princess, this is ridiculous. I won't tell you what you want to know, and you're wasting your sister's time as well as mine." He looks like he ate something bad. "Find the invisible castle. Bring a friend, if you can make any with those manners. I need her alive as much as you do, middle child."
"Now run along and let me rustle the bushes in peace. I'm sure we'll meet again, love."
Thursday rolls her eyes. "That sounds like a load of horsewhack to stop me from forcing some answers out of that slime you call a mouth. I'm going to need some proof you have any idea what you're talking about."
"Idiot child! She is protected by fire witch magic. Even if I had my staff I could not scry it!"
and lets say... that rings a bell
11:44
Something the raven said, like as not.
something in the raven's wording that didn't make sense before
yea
Excellent.
Thursday's eyes widen, and she runs.
She doesn't even glance at Antorell again.
Beautiful! End scene.
man, social combat is hard :P
11:46
It's a new paradigm for us.
yea. defenses should be actions, but actions should be actions...
it's funky
(lowercase in-game-world actions)
yeah
FATE, and FAE are a little odd
I personally like em though
And it's new(ish) to everyone here. We're all on the learning curve.
oh, yeah
character motivations felt a bit... too fluid
I wasn't sure whether Thurs should be wanting to get away or press forward or what
Mmm. I was a bit rushed in statting up Antorell, and maybe Thursday's aspects could use some fine-tuning?
11:50
and I'm not really sure what Anty's motivations were
well, I liked the compels
they worked
Neither am I; I was kinda winging it and we'll see what happens.
mmm
I have... ideas.
what (hah) aspect of the aspects do you think didn't work?
"Cursed By My Fiancé" didn't turn up many good complications.
11:51
yeah
that is a pretty negative one
I was expecting you to compel it whenever she was using her staff
and then I forgot, I think
to self-compel
I'm not very good at compels yet. Don't forget that you can compel yourself and others, too.
yea
but I liked using it as an invoke in the I Hate This Bastard sense
adding fire to insults and whatnot
Perfect Poise doesn't get compels
can Princess Who Saved Herself get compels? my gut says yes, but I'm not sure how
Maybe it needs some fiddling.
mmm

4 hours later…
15:36
@Nigralbus Hi.
Hello. Just noticed the room on the side of the main, thought I'd drop by and take a peek.
Welcome, welcome.
Any questions, comments, complaints, or concerns, I'd be happy to chat.
Well, for one I'm glad I'm not alone being fuzzy on creating good aspects :D
Rick Neal's articles, though DFRPG-specific, are helpful.
But ultimately it's just a matter of getting as much of the group together as possible to poke the aspects with a stick until they seem useful.
Yeah. FATE is really not made for premade chars...
15:47
The DFRPG pre-made I used to introduce my players, Night Fears, did a bang-up job of pre-mades. But I wouldn't want to try.
Also, nice "forum". I had heard about discourse, but never seen it in action.
Ah, yeah. @Problematic set that up for us and I'm very glad of it.
We aren't leveraging it to its full potential, but I like that we can as needed.
Why the split, though ? Some things managed here and then reported there or something like that ?
Right. We have the actual gameplay here, in real-time.
Partly because it's easier to have the dialogue FATE needs between its players, and partly because....
4d6
15:55
1 - 2 = [-], 3 - 4 = [ ], and 5 - 6 = [+].
Yeah, I'd figured from some rolls above. Practical indeed.
Though it would be better if it has actual dF :P
I wish.
A couple of the guys are working on a web app for FATE Core and FAE.
The Fate Fractal makes it a lot easier, apparently.
makes what easier ?
The programming.
