@EmilioPisanty the whole Brexit issue has now become surreal. My last hope is that someone has slipped psychedelic drugs into my coffee and at some point I will wake to find it has all been a dream.
@JohnRennie We all live on the same planet. Stop caring about countries, politics and the territorial classifications that humans have set for no reason.
@NovaliumCompany humans self select into social group. You can't do anything about that as it seems to be a fundamental part of human nature. What you have to do is manage it. You have to promote the positive aspects of tribalism and suppress the negative aspects.
But what's happening is that the argument is becoming increasingly divisive so exactly the opposite is happening.
As of right now there are only two plausible options left: 1. no deal Brexit 2. revoke article 50
The problem is that there is no agreement acceptable to a majority of MPs.
There has been a lot of fuss about the prorogueing reducing the time available for debate, but it makes no difference because debate will achieve nothing.
The EU have quite rightly said the current agreement is the best that is on offer - take it or leave it. And that agreement was rejected three times. It's not going to be accepted now.
In the absence of any agreement the only options are no deal or revoke article 50.
And I don't think there's a majority in the commons for revoking article 50.
It really doesn't matter whether Johnson remains the PM or not. Any PM who replaces Johnson will face the same situation.
@NovaliumCompany I think Emilio's point is that this is a very complex situation that a lot of us feel very strongly about, and it's unwise to go wading in with what seem to us to be oversimplified and unhelpful statements.
But I have to admit that the difference in culture, religion... has let to a pretty interesting diversity. If we all believed in one thing, had the same culture... it would be pretty boring.
@JohnRennie I have no interest in politics so I'm no one to talk to about those stuff. I just want wars and violence to be over.
I watched a movie A Prayer Before Dawn yesterday and I'm a bit depressed now :(
@JohnRennie I registered the domain anastir.com (to be a technology company) but I found out that the 9th turkish web hosting business is called alastyr.com. Will that be a problem?
@JohnRennie Great! It's not a possibility they will sue me in the future right? I mean, we work in different industries (web services and product technology) and their whole website is in turkish language.
@NovaliumCompany this is an extremely serious issue in which millions of people's livelihoods are on the line, among many other real-world consequences. "stop caring so much" is not an appropriate thing to say.
@JohnRennie that's the grimmest thing you've said thus far =|
@NovaliumCompany "No reason"? Hardly. They may not necessarily be good reasons, but there certainly are reasons. People have been willing to die and kill for this stuff. Perhaps you need to study some history. You can't solve the problems of the human race by simply telling everyone that they should get along and be one big happy family.
@TaeNyFan you're welcome. It was a shame your question had to be closed, but it wasn't suitable for the main site. But this chat room is great for questions like this. You can ask anything here :-)
I have to say that I think your attempt to build a e-ink screen is probably doomed to failure, but I also think you'll discover lots of interesting stuff attempting to make it work.
It may be very hard, but not impossible. And believe me, I'm not giving up until I don't see it working.
morgen
plus, it's the best learning experience I can ever get
@JohnRennie It bothers me a bit that you're sharing your identity on the internet.
I should have researched before buying the domain alastir.com :( Now I'm so annoyed that alastyr.com exists. Hopefully they don't mess us around, but I don't think they will since alastyr is a Turkish company.
I was thinking a name between Olstro, Avoala, Jellor and Anastir.
I asked people on discord and they voted Anastir.
But damn it, alastyr.com exists :(
Do you think they'll mess us up? I don't think they will because alastyr.com is entirely Turkish a no one besides Turkish people know about it.
It's so hard to come up with a good name these days ;((
I just learned a lesson not to compulsively and emotionally take decisions, such as buying the domain anastir.com, where I forgot to check whether there are similar business names due to my excitement. RIP 15$.
@ACuriousMind Some paper suggests that invariance of the action is to be something of the form $$\int_{a}^{b} L(\phi(x)) dx = \int_{\Phi(a)}^{\Phi(b)} L(\Psi(\phi(\Phi^{-1}(x)))) dx$$
But due to Reasons, I would perhaps prefer it to be $$\int_{a}^{b} L(\phi(x)) dx = \int_{a}^{b} L(\Psi(\phi(x))) dx$$
Where $\Psi$ is some field automorphism that can also include diffeomorphisms
as far as I can work out it's 1) preserve the manifold structure of $\mathbb{R}^2$ so it's a diffeomorphism 2) preserve the bundle structure so $\pi(x) = \pi(y) \to \pi(\Phi(x)) = \pi(\Phi(y))$ and 3) preserve the vector space structure so that $\Phi$ acts on the fiber like a linear transformation
