@vzn what? It's a Victorian-England social satire. It's only prescient in that the modern world still resembles Victorian England to an embarrassing degree.
@vzn You should really start entertaining the possibility that people reject what you say not because of you but because it tends to worthy of criticism.
@vzn So what? If we disagree with what you say we're supposed to not say that out loud? That's not how arguments work, and frowny faces don't change that.
@vzn I see you're still not willing to entertain the possibility that people are having legitimate objections to what you are saying. It's a tendency to be evasive aka "not willing to defend what you say" :(
To do a calculation on the GPU you have to transfer over the initial data, let the GPU churn then transfer back the results. The transfers are always going to take time.
@ACuriousMind such talk sounds to me like Eliza sometimes. anything said by anyone can be countered. countering is not inherently intelligent. in fact sometimes its quite the opposite eh?
@DanielSank geez dont you guys get a Nature subscription over there? are you guys still subsisting on ramen or something? thought google had serious $$$... anyway theres an arxiv version... o_O
I was part of the amateur group 4 years ago who discovered this 4D shape (no I only have contributed in the discussion, the actual discovery is by the other forum members)
> At the most fundamental level, the interaction between light and matter is manifested by the emission and absorption of single photons by single quantum emitters.
@DanielSank (sigh, sniff suppressed for 3s eh?) they are talking about deterministic CNOT gates using similar tech in another paper. how about that? nearly worthy of a question on the site it would seem
@vzn I do tend to mind when people consistently misrepresent my opinions after being told to stop. As I said earlier, I'm perfectly happy to discuss the (very exciting) physics you've linked to, but you do have to play by the Be Nice rules at the very least. Listening to what others say would also be nice.
@EmilioPisanty I often notice myself thinking that "Be nice" should include "discuss in good faith", but I some times feel I'm the only one who thinks that way.
@EmilioPisanty your thoughts (yes have listened) seem contradictory on the paper, guess glad you find it interesting enough to say something even if its criticism... man am amazed how hard it is to hear a positive comment about a Nature paper in here... maybe need to go to some other physics chatroom for more enthusiasm for latest results... o_O
This issue has come up enough times that I am comfortable calling it a pattern. @vzn please take note. Whether you agree with others' opinions and experiences or not, those are their opinions and experiences in fact. There seems to be a recurring state in which a user feels you are not discussing something in good faith. Please consider this.
@0celoñe7 Because of the repeated insinuations that the other people here are disagreeing with him because it's him, and not because they have actual valid opinions.
And continuing that pattern even after being asked not to.
At this point it seems evident to me that nothing constructive was to come of this conversation, and I'm simply fed up with the endless groundhog-day like repeat of that. Actually I have to go now, but if you have further thoughts on the issue, feel free to leave them here or in the meta room.
I think, @EmilioPisanty, that it is appropriate for us to start with something minimal. Wouldn't you agree? As this is a room for the technically oriented, let us begin with a masterpiece of simplicity and technical achievement. I give you A Mind is Born: a musical/visual composition written in 256 bytes running on a Commodore 64.
I know dark matter is #0 and plasma is #1. I suspect solid comes next. What's after that?
How does degenerate matter in old stars compare to the gas of nebulae or the liquid of planetary cores? And do any of the other states (BEC, superfluid, etc) even make the list?
Bonus points if you includ...
@skullpatrol aieee, yes, 1st time, ouch. thx for all your support. like to hang with many in here but blue has good advice. seems my mere av is enough to incite stuff sometimes. ouch.
@ιllιlılMostafaıllııllıl Yes like most tools, there is a trade-off between ability to get something done very quickly and suitability for complex tasks.
A friend of mine has a very nicely typeset paper on the arXiv and I would like to adapt large parts of the typesetting for my next paper. The paper uses the class file from Annalen der Physik, which is available under Manuscript submission > Article templates in their author guidelines page, or a...
@ιllιlılMostafaıllııllıl As commercial jets go those have a high thrust to weight ratios. They fly them out of small airports that require noise abatement because they can gain altitude like nobody's business, which can make them a fun ride.
The regular pilot on the run I took back home for vacations during college was a navy fighter pilot alum, and he'd do takeoffs from Santa Barbara navy style: lock the brakes, run the engines up to red-line then let her rip.
@EmilioPisanty Man I wish I knew more about numerics
I could probably prove a theorem that even with my singular system, some small error in the initial conditions only makes a small error at large distances
@SirCumference You can ask. but I may not be the best person to answer. The job I landed is at purely teaching university at the bottom of the public system in Missouri.
