Wait wouldn't there be field configurations where the action is negative
like say $\phi_{,t} > 0$ and $\phi_{,x} = 0$
Off shell certainly but you still have to integrate over it
Last night, I dreamt about having a very weird numerical analysis class (that makes no sense if you are aware of the key concepts in numerical analysis) :

The teacher said she is teaching about finite difference, and that the first thing we need to know is the following (bold caps are matrices and small letters are vectors) mathematical object defined to satisfy the following:

1. $\mathbf{M}\mathbf{c}=r(forgot)\mathbf{c}$
where $r=0$ implies $\mathbf{M}=\mathbf{O}$ (zero matrix)

2. $\Lambda\Lambda-\Lambda\Lambda$ which endows a geometry to the algebra
@FenderLesPaul tonight
almost done with homework
@Secret algebra is a thing
beats me what it is exactly, but it is a thing
i.e. I can't come up with the definitions off the top of my head

I briefly read about it on wikipedia after our discussion. From what I understood from wikipedia, it seemed to be a vector space equipped with a bilinear map
indeed
yeah that's right
so in the case of lie algebra the bilinear map is the bracket $[.,.]$

@obe how's the problem set going
obe
obe
Terrible.
brb
I can't offer help until I finish my own work

@0celo7 ::shudders::
@DanielSank what do you have against Lie algebra?
@obe ok I can offer my services now
