10:00 PM
@dmckee ACM can't even drive. And @Slereah is French. So despite my sticking close the bathroom, I'm the most qualified driver here.

I also don't have a license

@0celo7 I'll be sure to stay off the sidewalks, then.

really when it comes to alcohol, you basically can't trust any european
The French, the Irish, the English, the Italians, the Russians, the Finnish
All drunks
2

@Slereah You're 28...what is wrong with you?

"the Irish, [...] All drunks" On behalf of my ancestors, I wish to say "I resemble that remark!"

10:03 PM
I dunno
Maybe it's because nobody in my family has it
So I never had any sense of urgency of getting it

But....how do you get from city A to city B?

@Slereah Really depends on where you live. In the US there are realtively few places where it is easy to get on without a car. Europe looks a lot different to me when I'm there.

@Slereah high five

How do you run errands?

Shorter walks and better public transport.

10:05 PM
We had two cars when we lived in Germany!
That wasn't strange, everyone had a car.

@0celo7 The PUBLIC TRANSPORTS
and walking yes

Although they did wonder why we had war-like hummers (=mid-sized SUVs).

Last time I got drunk, I was sitting in a circle of a drinking game at some point of the night
And then we had to drink this evil alcohol
And I drank the whole glass in one shot
And then things got a bit fuzzy

@Slereah Alcohol isn't evil.
Unless it's tequila. Fuck tequila.

Do you mean mexican champagne
Obviously you've never tasted Salmiakki

10:10 PM
Ouzo is evil as well.

Though to be fair
The most evil of alcohols aren't the burning ones
The devil's greatest trick is to make people think he did not exist
The most evil alcohol are the ones that are 60° but taste like candy

obe
Is it weird that I don't know any of these names?

No the maximum evil comes from punches and eggnogs that are about 50 proof but don't taste like they are alcoholic at all. Yeah, what Siereah said.

Not sure I'd call those evil. They...kinda do what they're designed to do.

@obe ::rubs head:: It's probably a good thing.

obe
10:15 PM
I guess.
Icetea is nice.

Yeah, with vodka.
I need to get some food.

user54412
@dmckee Well, I dislike the taste of alcohol enough that I've probably had 5 shots worth in my life. And I've been sick once in the last 10 years (and that was food poisoning).

@ChrisWhite Taste? What kind of liquor did you drink?

user54412
Also, since we're only testing alcohol, I'll be sure to match your cheese intake, gouda-for-gouda, brie-for-brie.

tfw too poor for good cheese
I miss those kind of comforts of home

10:21 PM
@ChrisWhite : If you don't like the taste of alcohol it is pretty easy to mask
vodka and fruit dranks are a pretty easy trick

user54412
Perhaps, but that's starting to become effort.

I like a "good" whiskey.

user54412
Also, I have very sensitive taste. I think coffee and carbonation and citrus fruits are also too strong.

I think e.g. Jack Daniels single barrel is pretty good.
But I'd probably get shot by whiskey enthusiasts for saying that.

obe
@ChrisWhite same.
water ftw

10:24 PM
What is with highly intelligent people having peculiar habits/tastes?

Can't get drunk on water though
2

@ChrisWhite won't drink coffee or alcohol.

user54412
The wildest thing I ever did was chug a can of orange soda as part of hazing freshman bonding activities. Scarred me for life.

Plus "vodka" literally means "water"

@ACuriousMind Hates coffee too (IIRC) and has mismatched socks.
@obe is just strange overall ;)
@Slereah and I are the only normal ones here
I'm sure @dmckee is strange too

10:26 PM
I'm cool
:-)

obe
What about FendersLP?

All those NERDS not drinking
Like us cool kids

ah
he's strange as well

obe
If your socks are the same colour on the visible part but different on the area inside the shoe, does that still count as mismatched socks?

Yes, but to a lesser degree.

obe
10:33 PM
Then a lot of people could be weirdos with mismatched socks and we wouldn't be able to tell.

Indeed.
But with Bajoran, we can tell.

user54412
Protect your children!

obe
Sock detectors.

user54412
And the award for keyboard mashing username of the day goes to... Mkomovffdfewrwqwerqw.

@ChrisWhite Interesting.

10:47 PM
@0celo7 re the peculiar habits/tastes, that's a good question!
I don't think it's confirmation bias...

obe
I think I shouldn't take antidepressants because they make me less weird.

11:16 PM
Hello
@ACuriousMind are you in the house?
Or rather the bar

@StanShunpike Hi there, I'm right here! (under the counter)

Question
So I have been thinking about music theory
And I have a theory that the duration of musical notes are quantized
Specifically, there is essentially a minimum duration a note can have and our perception of music uses this fact to interpret the relations between the notes
@ACuriousMind do u think this is an appropriate usage of the term "quantized"?
What makes something quantized?

@StanShunpike I prefer to say "discretized" for things that are supposed to take discrete values and "quantized" for the quantum version of classical things, but that's my idiosyncratic terminology.

That's not a bad idea

Inability to be broken into smaller units.

11:22 PM
So, if there is a minimum duration a note can take, then yes, it's discretized
Or quantized in not-so-nitpicky people's terminology

I will have to think carefully what word to use. I dislike using physics terms generally because it often leads to abusing the physics ideas themselves. E.g. quantum consciousness or other such nonsense

@EmilioPisanty be clear! ok?

@ACuriousMind gracias amigo
@skillpatrol ^ tu tambien

np pal :-)

@ACuriousMind That's a good idea.
I have to go to the clinic tomorrow.
This sickness is nuts, I need some medicines.

11:31 PM
I asked you to get some antibiotics long time ago, remember?

Yes
I was getting better

11:56 PM
@0celo7 Sure. I don't care for the taste of crustaceans, mollusks and about half the mushrooms I've tried. And though I have good color discrimination (I pass all the color blindness test and the Pantone shade-ordering test easily), the frequency range I see is slightly more restricted than normal so that there are some spectral lines I can't see that most people can.

Yup, weirdo confirmed.
