In all fairness, when someone brags about ignoring a girl for 3 months and then insults her for trying to communicate it is about the same (perceived!) level of viewing a girl as a piece of meat and nothing more, and furthermore asking if a girl is hot in no way treats her as less of a human being, that is a very perverse view of sexuality
Maybe she was busy, maybe she is dealing with stuff in her life, but you just abandon her instead of finding out what is up with her and why she didn't reply, I mean it's very easy to just ask if you don't like it

Don't worry about the qutip module.. All you need to know is that Qobj(x) converts x, a matrix or array, into the qutip format, and mesolve solves the Lindblad Equation, which takes in H, the hamiltonian, cops, the collapse operators, tlist, the times to evaluate rho(t) at...

@ACuriousMind I just stumbled across the perfect Terry Tao blog post on the subject. I'll have to keep this around to send to any beginning mathematician types I meet.
Rant: Stone's theorem should be taught in every quantum mechanics class - it single-handedly explains what the hell the Schrödinger equation tells us, why we can blindly differentiate continuous symmetries on the Hilbert space, and it leads into the Stone-von Neumann theorem telling us that the canonical commutation relations are equivalent to thinking of Fourier conjugate variables.
It's one of those things I very vividly remember thinking "Why the hell didn't anyone tell me this?" about when I first encountered it.
@obe From my bachelor thesis advisor. He asked me why $\frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}s}\psi = \mathrm{i} A\psi$ would be the same as saying that $\psi(s) = \exp(\mathrm{i} A s)\psi(0)$.
After having valiantly explained why we need half-integer spin, I just gave up on that one.

@0celo7 He is good, then. I've met too many people who seem to think the uncertainty relation is special to "x" and "p", and don't even know that we are talking about actual standard deviations.
@0celo7 Von Neumann did so much for the actual formulation of quantum mechanics - it's sad how little he is known compared to Schrödinger and Heisenberg.
I kept digging for rigorous ideas for quantum mechanics, and you find von Neumann this, von Neumann that. I would much like to get rid of "wave mechanics" and teach more of his stuff instead.

I just spent the last half hour looking for a quick and dirty way to take a 2D Fourier transform of an image. All the online applets are so old I can't get them to work, the python 1-liners depend on modules I can't figure out how to install, the imagemagick command also doesn't work.
