In a book, the author talked about how the writer of a testbook in the 1800s wrote that $1+0=0$. But the author of the book used an exclamation mark at the end, so it was still right: $$1+0=0!$$

@StanShunpike There is a constant magnetic field that induces a splitting in the nuclear energy levels. The oscillating EM field is used to detect the splitting. If the frequency (usually radio) of the oscillation matches the energy/frequency of the splitting, there will be resonant absorption.

@Danu - That actually puts my first question on the front foot. Can I use gravity (for example firing smaller black holes) to tear a black hole into pieces that are too small to create a black hole?

@Richard : you can understand it if you look at the gravastar, which features "a void in the fabric of space and time". IMHO a gravastar isn't a correct description for a black hole, but IMHO it does give provide the right intuition: you can't tear a hole in half.
