lol. It seems FB is the new hub for hw vampires

It is. and apologies to be racist, but most askers seemed to be from a certain continent
why is that I don't know

Anonymous
Asia, meh

Anonymous
I know

Anonymous
@Secret Education system.

Anonymous
7:13 PM
People do hw here just so that they can submit and get marks.

and that is very bad practice, because they will not learn

Anonymous
I feel pity for them. Many of them are forced to take up courses they don't like to study due to parental pressure

Anonymous
It's like : "Either be a doctor or an engineer, or go and beg in the streets".

Anonymous
Maybe, that's true for all developing countries though. (even Africa)

not good
hate that

7:16 PM
In Hong Kong its more like: Either be a lawyer, doctor or finance person, or no future

@Secret because two thirds of the total population live there?
most everything seem to be from a certain continent

well, not necessary, if it is not localised at a certain culture, then it could be e.g. very low counts in asia

Anonymous
2/3 is bit of a over-estimation I think. Asia doesn't have 2/3 rd of word population for sure

so population only controls part of the probabilities

Anonymous
7:18 PM
Oh, wait...if we include Russia

Anonymous
well yeah

Anonymous
agreed

nah russia is huge but not super densely populated
a chunk of it is siberia

Anonymous
this is amazing

asia is huge in terms of population

Anonymous
7:19 PM
I didn't know this

Anonymous
I was expecting around 1/2 of world population in Asia

Sid
@Blue 2 of the Asian countries have 1/3rd of human population

Anonymous
1.2+1.3=2.5

Anonymous
Yeah, nearly

Sid
Pretty sure, if you add everyone else you will get nearly 2/3rd population

Anonymous
7:28 PM
Worlfram says it is 57%

Anonymous
2/3 would be around 67%...but well

Sid
Which is still huge. (And Russia is Europe, not Asia)

Anonymous
Half of Russia is Asia

Anonymous
(Not exact half :P)

Sid
Russia has a huge area but pretty low population density. So, it doesn't really matter if you include them or not.
But, Russia culturally identifies with Europe, I think

Anonymous
7:31 PM
@Sid I knew it was low. But not that low

Anonymous
Came to know just now

Sid
@Secret Wh, I would say they come from a certain country. You were being far too lenient with continent.

Anonymous
That guy who posted on FB was from Pak

Sid
Pak~ India~Bangladesh . No real difference there

Anonymous
You think Chinese students don't ask hw questions? :P They ask a hell lot...you don't see them because they mostly don't use English sites

Anonymous
7:37 PM
Also FB is banned in China

Anonymous
Visit any Chinese forum and you'll see

Sid
Well, that is also true. A lot of things are banned in China, though
Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but whatever

@Blue yeah they do, and taiwanese also.Their questions tend to be a lot more sensible and detailed research effort than the bangladash counterparts, though

Sid
But, coming back to that population data, anyone has any data or idea on how much of the total GDP of the world is contributed by Asia?

Anonymous
@Sid Use Wolfram

Anonymous
7:47 PM
@Secret I'm not sure about the sensible and detailed part. They too have stuff like Gaokao or something for which millions of students have to compete...so i'd expect the situation to be similar if we take a large sample space

ah yes, in forums they are kinda similar, but on facebook, they are generally less help vampirish (or maybe that's for the groups that are visible on my newsfeed)
Here's a more vampirish(?) example in one of the groups I frequented on fb

Anonymous
@Secret FB is banned in China if I am not wrong...

Anonymous
That's why you don't see much

yeah, the above example is a taiwanese
you can tell them apart most of the time since we hongkongers, macau people and taiwanese use traditional chinese while other parts of China uses simplified chinese

Sid
What's the difference?

7:54 PM
other cues include chinese surnames there is only Wang and Huang, while Wong is unique to Hong Kong

8:09 PM
for some unknown reason Ive spent the last hour photoshoping a picture of Kim Jong Un
was that time wasted? definitely not.

vzn
@DanielSank I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics. --Feynman

8:22 PM
hello

@AccidentalFourierTransform ::trying to decide if moderating this is worth admitting that I get the joke::

joke? what joke? :-P

i've got a probably dumb question.
i'm working through some problems about energy and work, and one of them is
> A car moving at 50 km/h skids 15 m with locked brakes. How far will the car skid with locked brakes at 150 km/h?
I understand how the book does it, but I don't understand why you can't set up a proportion: 50/15 = 150/x

8:38 PM
because the distance does not depend on the velocity linearly?

@AccidentalFourierTransform proof?

Q: Are the contents of Q&A and comments in the PSE protected by any copyright?

docscienceDoes anyone, any entity own copyright on the contents of the Physic's Stack Exchange Q&A that exist?

it may not even be true
idk

@0celóñe7 $KE = 1/2mv^2$
what AFT said makes sense
I can be very idiotic on occasion =)
$\Delta KE = W = Fd$ (connection with distance)
@AccidentalFourierTransform thank you

np :-)
@ACuriousMind nice book indeed
the MIT notes I was talking about are ocw.mit.edu/courses/mathematics/…
nice too

8:48 PM
@0celóñe7 This is some of what I did as part of 1st year CS - It was and still is useful :)

@Mithrandir24601 did you hear that ep 6 got leaked
Only two people recorded it. One on a phone and the other deleted it by accident

@DanielSank As for this - it makes perfect sense to teach FT properly as part of physics. I still remember the physics lecture on this and it was the worst (maybe 2nd worst) lecture I've ever been to. Luckily, it was taught much better as part of maths for natural science
@0celóñe7 yeah, I noticed that message, but I'll watch it next Monday when, y'know, I get it in decent quality :P

@Mithrandir24601 I'm currently dodging spoilers
I don't want to see it either until Sunday

the guy with the beard dies
why Folland why?

9:08 PM
@0celóñe7 I'm at home, so don't have my laptop with me, so it's relatively easy for me to avoid spoilers :)

2 hours later…
11:17 PM
@Kaumudi.H hello
how are you?
how's college?

user228700
Hi! :-) I'm good! And you?

user228700
I'll get back to you in a bit; currently attempting to understand what The Leaning Tower of Lire has to do with convergence.

i'm pretty good; and no worries - sounds interesting.
@Kaumudi.H would this be useful?
i think i've figured out what it has to do with convergence...
you have a series that approximates $D_n$, the amt of overhang of the books.

user228700
Haha, I had just been reading that and a few other papers.

user228700
I also figured it out :-) It is interesting, isn't it?!

11:28 PM
yeah!
so, it converges to infinity, right?

user228700
Yup!

cool!
i'm going to go to the school library one day and do that.

user228700
My textbook prefers to say "Diverges" instead of "Converges to infinity" but same difference, I think.

user228700
@heather Hahaha, good luck! :-) TAKE A PICTURE!

@Kaumudi.H actually, i'm going to try right now, i have plenty of books.

user228700
11:30 PM
DO IT!

user228700
:-)

wow, it's kinda hard
well, i sort of did it
with a photo which i'll post as soon as it shows up in my email.
It's very tipsy, and I kind of cheated because I used books not of the same width (I don't have many books of the same size).
