David Cronenberg thinks superhero movies, however good, are based on childish characters like a man flying around with a cape, so cannot be the best kind of movies
but there is overwhelming evidence that he has watched the Twilight series
#rekt

@BalarkaSen you must be good at ticz-cd, no?

tikz-cd? nah
that's what danu's onto

@Danu @ACuriousMind paging

Q: On arrows in Tikz cd

DBSSo I am getting used to using tikz-cd package to draw relatively straightforward commutative diagrams. I have two questions. Question 1 Here is the code: \documentclass[10pt, draft]{amsart} \usepackage{pgf} \usepackage{tikz} \usepackage{tikz-cd} \usetikzlibrary{arrows, matrix} % With tons of o...

superhero movies meh

2:09 PM
This looks a little silly

@0celouvskyopoulo7 Would you be able to assist with a quick QM question?

Now the two arrows merged into one
@JohnJack maybe

@Avantgarde they're good only when they're good

Take a buddhist writing, and parodied it with quantum mechanics

2:13 PM
but mostly bad

@BalarkaSen Is Dark Knight good? If so, I have not liked a good superhero movie

it is the best

The genre just doesn't work for me

are you a communist?

Sid
how can you not like the Dark Knight?

2:14 PM
@SirCumference you should change your username to pieD

I don't like movies, in general, lol

so, a communist

Sid
@0celouvskyopoulo7 Is there a study that Leftists don't like movies?

yeah, I used to play cricket with Marx

@Avantgarde oh well!

2:16 PM
what's wrong with being a communist?

being a communist, @Just

@BernardoMeurer trust me, you want to put off getting a job as long as possible.

@Avantgarde I can give you avant garde movies, if that's what you want.

@JohnRennie I think he's not asking because he wants a job for fun :P

I am big on those

2:18 PM
@0celouvskyopoulo7 In the Bloch sphere if you start in state $\frac{|0\rangle - i|1\rangle}{\sqrt{2}}$ (which is the state along the y axis in the negative direction) and you rotate around the z axis by $\pi/2$, hence you use $\text{exp}(\frac{-i \sigma_z}{2})$, then you would expect the final state to lie along the x axis which corresponds to $\frac{|0\rangle + |1\rangle}{\sqrt{2}}$.
When I do the calculation I get $(\frac{1}{2} - i\frac{1}{2}) | 0\rangle + (\frac{1}{2} - i\frac{1}{2}) |1\rangle$, are these equivalent states since there is just a phase difference or is my calculation incorrect?

@BalarkaSen I would prefer that, sure. I would probably not be able to watch it anytime soon. I need good motivation to watch a movie

Sid
You need patience.

You bet! I don't have that for movies

@Avantgarde Watch "Solyaris" or "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky. The motivation is that it's not from the bullshit Hollywood.
What was the last movie you saw and liked?

Goodness me there's some right bollocks talked in this chat room while I'm away :-)

Sid
2:21 PM
oh, JR is British. I didn't know that.

was there ever

@BalarkaSen Yes, you told me about Solyaris, not Stalker. The little summary of Solyaris seemed interesting. I'll see if I can get around to watch it next time. I don't remember really liking a lot of movies. Inception was probably the most recent one

@Sid what gave it away? :-)

Sid
@JohnRennie "Bollocks" - That's British slang

^that

2:24 PM
@JohnJack I don't know what the answer should be exactly, but I would figure it to be the $x$ state

I could be just pretending to be British in order to be associated with a naturally superior race.

@BalarkaSen What are some of your favorite movies?

@Avantgarde Well, here's something: I like Chris Nolan, but he smells of Hollywood way too much.
I have different layers of liking a movie.

@JohnRennie "naturally"?

I can like a B-movie, say, but in an entirely different way.

2:27 PM
@JohnRennie and let's not even touch: superior :-)

@0celouvskyopoulo7 Yes it should but I'm asking if
\begin{bmatrix}
\frac{1}{2} -i\frac{1}{2} \\
\frac{1}{2} -i\frac{1}{2}
\end{bmatrix} be considered the same state as \begin{bmatrix}
\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} \\
\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}
\end{bmatrix}
in the bloch sphere?

bloch sphere is a projective space, so yes

The best thing of Nolan was of course

@0celouvskyopoulo7 thanks just wanted to confirm that.

I never understood that meme
Some memes are understandable
Some are just puzzling

2:29 PM
@Avantgarde That's a hard list to make. I think Andrei Tarkovsky stands tall in any list I ever make.
But I like a more commercial genre too; art horror is one of my favorite.

If you have two posts flagged in the chat do you get suspended for 2 x 30 minutes?

Bravo Nolan

In that genre, here's a few: Erasorhead, Videodrome, Naked Lunch, Dear Ringers, Hellraiser, Enemy.
Enemy is the very recent movie I watched very recently, and it was fantastic.

Hellraisers as art horror?

@Slereah Compared to the campy horror of the 80's, Hellraiser I is art man

2:31 PM
@JohnRennie no, just 30

in the 80's most horror movies were like stupid looking monsters or zombies

@Justwinbaby There's a guy just got suspended in the Game Development chat, and when I look at his profile I see he's suspended for 60 minutes.

It was gr8
Especially Leprechaun

@JohnRennie must have been serious

He had two posts flagged, which is why I wondered if both earned him a 30 minute ban.

2:34 PM
yeah it was v v v good

perhaps he was a repeat offender

i read the novella before watching the movie though

Did you see the sequels
I tried watching all of them

nope
lol

But I had to stop watching Hellraisers 8
When they go in cyberspace

2:35 PM
suspensions are hard to figure out

did Barker even have a direct association with the sequels except II

I doubt it

@Justwinbaby Well it says he is automatically suspended so it wasn't a mod suspending him for an hour.

Starting with Hellraisers 5 I think they were mostly
Random horror scripts with Hellraisers slapped on top

@JohnRennie ok, then you must be right

2:37 PM
i got the impression the series turned into a slasher/gore horror series

@JohnRennie shall we run an experiment here?
flag two of my posts

@Justwinbaby I think doing it deliberately would get us all suspended :-)

or the room frozen ;-)
chatting is not an experimental science, yet

the greatest and the oldest art horror is probably just Cabinet of Dr Caligari

Caligari?

2:40 PM
Thanks, yup

What about the 1910 Frankenstein movie
Great art
It's like 15 minutes of whacky Frankenstein hijinx

user228700
Hey, guys :-)

user228700
@JohnR: What's for lunch?

@Kaumudi.H Just a risotto

user228700
Ohh, OK...

2:42 PM
Nothing very exciting. However I have plans for Saturdays lunch ...

@Slereah "huh". i should see it

user228700
Ah :-) Do tell.

How did the driving go by the way?

user228700
@Balarka: Dammit man, none of the horror movies u've recommended are on Netflix :-/

user228700
@JohnRennie It was...a little more terrifying today but OK.

2:43 PM
i checked netflix recently. it has nothing at all

user228700
@BalarkaSen Pretty much.

@Slereah Oh, The Thing. That's fantastic
rather cultish but super awesome

@Kaumudi.H Like I said, learning to drive is scary.
It's worth it though.

@Kaumudi I think most of the movies I mentioned are on youtube, though.

user228700
Ah, YouTube! Right, right...

2:45 PM
I watched Dead Ringers from youtube, for example
there's a quality upload

user228700
@JohnRennie It doesn't seem that way right now; so many things to do!!! :-o

2 mins ago, by Kaumudi. H
@JohnRennie It was...a little more terrifying today but OK.
Not scary? :-)

there's a guy called Blame Truth who uploads horror movies

user228700
@JohnRennie I think u got my messages mixed up. My earlier message directs back to "It's worth it tho", to which I said "It doesn't seem that way".

Ah, oops.

user228700
2:47 PM
@BalarkaSen Thanks!

user228700
@BalarkaSen Oh, I see...

(Not) Blame Truth
that's the name

@Kaumudi.H But it is worth it. Part of the scary bit about learning is the instructor sitting nect to you making you drive places you don't want to at a pace you don't want to go.
But once you've passed you can practice by going somewhere quiet and driving how you want to drive. That way you can build up your confidence in a low stress environment.

user228700
No. Part of the scary bit is having to be in control of so many things all at once. Otherwise, boom, u kill a dog.

There are plenty more dogs out there :-)

Sid
2:49 PM
Err.. not only a dog..

user228700
(For the record, I haven't crashed into anything/anyone (just yet). Just saying)

user228700
I was quite amazed at just how many things I gotta do at just the right time!

user228700
I may not have killed anything (yet) but I did have the car stop smack right in the middle of a busy intersection.

user228700
@BalarkaSen ...now I'm confused.

well that's the channel's name :D

user228700
2:52 PM
:-P OK...

user228700
How does anyone manage to take their foot off the clutch at just the right pace so that the engine doesn't stop?! (1st gear)

@Kaumudi.H when that happens it's important to learn the correct hand signals to give the people who hoot at you

user228700
Hand signals? What hand signals?

@Kaumudi.H In the UK they involve two fingers
I assume Tamil Nadu has its local equivalents :-)

user228700
...I've literally never heard of hand signals for drivers (other than the one for "go on, overtake me" and the ones for indicating left/right for cyclists)

user228700
2:56 PM
Or, ooh, the one for a U-turn at intersections.

user228700
The V sign?!

See the as an insult section

user228700
To think that literally all JEE toppers flaunting their victory are also probably offending someone in the UK...

It depends which way round you hold your hand.

user228700
3:01 PM
Ohhh, I see...

@Kaumudi.H it's a knack. In a few months you'll be wondering how you ever found it difficult..
Though even experienced drivers still sometimes stall the engine when pulling away.
Personally I drive an automatic :-)

user228700
Wow, I see...

user228700
@JohnRennie I've never understood the difference.

With an automatic gearbox there's no clutch pedal. Just press the accelerator and off it goes.

user228700
3:04 PM
Oh, wow, I see.

user228700
That definitely seems a lot easier, not having the stupid clutch.

what a bourgeois discussion

Automatics aren't as good for sporty driving. I drove a manual until my mid forties, at which point i decided I was old enough to be boring.

user228700
How come?

user228700
@BalarkaSen :-P Sorry that this is of no interest to u.

3:08 PM
@Kaumudi.H If you want to drive like a hooligan (which is an excellent goal in life) then being in the correct gear is very important. You need the right gear for engine braking into a corner and the right gear for maximum power exiting the corner. An auto box doesn't give you that fine control.

i am more interested in talking about dialectical materialism and the uplifting of the working class via revolutionary attempts at thwarting the authority

Sadly the working class are mostly interested in alcohol, sex and cars.

user228700
@JohnRennie Ohh, I see...

Yes, the lumpenproletariats
better to squash them, like Stalin

user228700
@BalarkaSen That's an interesting typo u've made :-P

3:10 PM
@Kaumudi.H your driving instructor is unlikely to cover the hooligan approach to driving :-)

fixeding

@BalarkaSen lumpenproletariats plural?

user228700
@BalarkaSen No, it was interesting. Whether u're more interested in talking about those things or interesting, as in, whether you'd be more interesting talking about those things rather than, say, cars.

user228700
@JohnRennie :-P My driving instructor, BTW, was screamed at today, for not helping me properly enough, what with the stalling and all.

was screamed at today - by you?

user228700
3:13 PM
Lol, no! By this angry guy who claimed to be a cop and to also kill my instructor.

Damn, Indian driving lessons are different :P

Good grief. Driving instructor is a tough job in Chennai :-)

user228700
...it would've been scary, were it not for the fact that angry men say these things on the road pretty much all the time.

They do?

and you say Chennai is a lovely place?

Sid
3:16 PM
Meh, no one takes those things seriously

user228700
^

Sid
People scream at everyone anywhere in this country. And the next moment, they become the best of pals

i don't get screamed by people on the road
but i am not the best of pals with anyone much
so there's that

user228700
@BalarkaSen U leave the house? :-P

sigh
no
Let's say I have a metaphysical and metaphilosophical understanding of the road

user228700
3:20 PM
:-) OK.

Sid
Err.. what?

Read the public works of Puncher and Wattman.
where they refute the existence of a benign god. that should explain everything.

user228700
@JohnRennie He said he has some understanding of the road that does not (presumably) involve actually being on the road but that's what I understood anyway.

user228700
@BalarkaSen :-P I was surprised when u said u actually have cousins because this is still what I think:

You have a family?!?! :-P (I hope u can tell that I'm jk)

in an appropriate notion of family, for sure

in Mathematics, 20 mins ago, by Secret
$$\frac{df(x)}{dx}=\lim_{h\to 0}\frac{f(x+h)-f(x)}{h}=\lim_{h\to 0}\frac{E^hf(x)-f(x)}{h}=\lim_{h\to 0} \left(\frac{E^h-\textrm{id}}{h}f(x)\right)$$

You are all my family. Specifically you are all the black sheep of my family :-)

Should I take that as a compliment or an insult?

3:31 PM
Gnomic utterances are no fun if you have to explain them

@Secret ?
@ACuriousMind can u pls help with diagrams

Almost forgot: $E^h:f(x)\to f(x+h)$ is the shift operator and $E : f(x)\to f(x+1)$
therefore the derivative is basically a shift operator in disguise

@Secret Exercise: Define $E^h$ via the functional calculus, if possible.

@0celouvskyopoulo7 I would have to look up the correct commands exactly like you, I don't have anything about tikz-cd memorized

Show that $(E^h-1)/h\to d/dx$ in the appropriate topology of operators.
This statement doesn't even make sense. Explain
@ACuriousMind I did look them up
and it's borke

3:37 PM
I think we can consider the sequence of operators $\{(E^{1}-1)/1,(E^{\frac{1}{2}}-1)/\frac{1}{2},(E^{\frac{1}{4}}-1)/\frac{1}{4},(‌E^{\frac{1}{8}}-1)/\frac{1}{8},...\}$ and show that it does converge pointwise to $\frac{d}{dx}$ ?. However since I don't have functional calculus background, I think I can only continue this later...

@Secret $d/dx$ is unbounded
so "converge" is tricky
@ACuriousMind ?

3:55 PM
@0celouvskyopoulo7 It...looks okay I guess?

Hey @ACuriousMind (& any other mods)
any chance this

A: Are Newton's "laws" of motion laws or definitions of force and mass?

joshphysicsIn my view, standard statements of Newton's laws are usually overly concise, and this lack of detail causes confusion about what is a definition, and what is an empirical fact. To avoid this confusion, let's proceed in a systematic way that makes the distinctions between these definitions and em...

can be unCW'd?
looks like it was auto CWd after the 10th edit as per the old rules

Hm, was that CW'd by the old "more than 10 edits" rule?

but frankly josh deserves all the credit on that one

Agreed. It's a shame Josh decided real life was important :-)

Done.

3:59 PM
@ACuriousMind excellent
now to put things to rights

@JohnRennie What is this 'real life' you speak of? I don't think I've ever played that one before

@Mithrandir24601 As the old joke goes, it has excellent graphics, but pretty crappy gameplay.

@0celouvskyopoulo7 I do not think it is unbounded on $C_0^{\infty}(X)$ or $\mathscr{S}(X)$, $X$ locally compact

@yuggib It's continuous on $\mathscr S$

yeah, but I was not 100% sure (I am old, and I use (almost) always operators on Hilbert spaces now)

4:07 PM
@yuggib The seminorms on $\mathscr S$ use derivatives

I know

I was thinking in terms of Hilbert spaces, anyhow
I don't know of a Hilbert space topology where it's continuous...I'm sure there must be one though

yeah but then the derivative is in the distributional sense, you cannot make just that plain old simple definition

If you're working on a Sobolev space you can define the derivative in terms of difference quotients

I strongly doubt it is continuous from any functional Hilbert space into itself

4:09 PM
I didn't say it was an easy exercise
Or if it's possible :P

@0celouvskyopoulo7 why would you do that? the distributional definition makes much more sense

@yuggib Elliptic regularity uses difference quotients...

but they have to restrict to a dense domain (that is not the maximal domain of definition of the derivative)

@Balarka I agree about the Hollywood factor of Nolan. Those are movies I have never seen before. Eraserhead looks weird lol. But yeah, I will try to get around to watching these. Maybe I should tell you the kinds I liked. My favorites have been: The matrix, The man from earth, American History X, 2001: A space odyssey

@yuggib I think that if $f\in L^2(\Omega)$ and for $\Omega'\subset\subset\Omega$, $h$ small enough, $K<\infty$ one has $||\Delta^hf||_{L^2(\Omega')}\le K$, one has that $Df$ exists in the weak sense and $f\in H^1(\Omega')$.
Where $\Delta^h$ is the "difference quotient gradient"

4:16 PM
$\subset\subset$ is a really ugly symbol

Of course $D$ is not a continuous operator on any Sobolev space, I wasn't claiming that. I was just saying that $D$ can be thought of as a difference quotient on some Hilbert space.

define the "difference quotient gradient"

in Mathematics, 55 secs ago, by Akiva Weinberger
(In fact, since $E=e^D$ essentially is equivalent to Taylor's theorem, and the above limit is the definition of the derivative, that manipulation doubles as like the shortest proof of Taylor's theorem ever)
in Mathematics, 37 secs ago, by Akiva Weinberger
@Secret Right. And as I noted, the problem is false outside of the polynomials

@yuggib the vector with components $$\Delta^h_i f=\frac{f(x+he_i)-f(x)}{h}$$

in Mathematics, 16 secs ago, by Akiva Weinberger
$f(x)\mapsto f(x)\cos(2\pi x)$ being the example of something that commutes with $E^1$ but not $E^{1/2}$
We just went through how to prove some commutation relations in polynomial space

4:19 PM
@0celouvskyopoulo7 that is not a good definition for classes of almost everywhere equivalent functions ;-P

@yuggib Maybe not, but it is true in the $L^2$ sense
Pick a representative

@0celouvskyopoulo7 who tells you the representative is a function?

$f\in L^2(\Omega)$...

@Mithrandir24601 real life is a delusion brought about by alcohol deficiency :-)

@JohnRennie Huh? I don't take a lot of alcohol and I don't remember this delusion...

4:25 PM
@0celouvskyopoulo7 I do not know whether the quotient of the measurable functions with finite integral of $\lvert f\rvert ^2$ with respect to almost everywhere equivalence is complete. If it is not, and you have to complete it to get $L^2$ then you may not have a representative that is a function

@yuggib I'm not quotienting functions
$h$ is just a number

@0celouvskyopoulo7 No, you are saying $f\in L^2$ and I pick a representative

Yes...
So $f$ is measurable

this is allowed only if $L^2 = \{f\text{ mes.}, \int \lvert f\rvert^2 dx <\infty\}/(\text{a.e. equiv})$

Is that not precisely what $L^2$ is??

4:27 PM
I am not sure, maybe that quotient is not complete
as a topological space
I can't remember

That's exactly what $L^2$ is lol :P
It's already complete once you mod out a.e. equivalence.

ok then, nonetheless I find the definition in the sense of distributions more clear ;-P
But it's just personal taste

Oh, I'm not disagreeing.

\o @yuggib

@Justwinbaby your username intrigues me

Are you into underground rap?

Too many haters.
Yup.

nice
I like some underground rap too, sometimes

The raiders are the original underground team
Silver & Black

I have absolutely no idea about that. I'm not into American sport teams. Or mostly any sport

I see.
You're into multivariable derivatives by the look of your avatar :-)

@JohnRennie I am dismayed that the answer to "How do I patch a known problem in this OS" is "change the OS".
I feel like every time I touch windows, it burns me :-(

@DanielSank in general, I feel ya
windows 8 tho
is it windows 8.1, at least?

I can't believe this!
You have to "eat" in order to stay alive, but eating causes your teeth (which are necessary for eating and therefore staying alive) to decay.
It means life works against itself

Shift operator matrix representation in polynomial space:
In $\textrm{P}^n(\Bbb{R})$. using the standard basis. Let $\begin{pmatrix}x \\ y\end{pmatrix}={}^xC_y$
$$E^k=\begin{pmatrix}
{}^nC_0k^0 & {}^{n-1}C_0k^0 & {}^{n-2}C_0k^0 & {}^{n-3}C_0k^0 & \cdots & {}^{0}C_0k^0 \\
{}^nC_1k^1 & {}^{n-1}C_1k^1 & {}^{n-2}C_1k^1 & {}^{n-3}C_1k^1 & \cdots & 0 \\
{}^nC_2k^2 & {}^{n-1}C_2k^2 & {}^{n-2}C_2k^2 & {}^{n-3}C_2k^2 & \cdots & 0 \\
{}^nC_3k^3 & {}^{n-1}C_3k^3 & {}^{n-2}C_3k^3 & {}^{n-3}C_3k^3 & \cdots & 0 \\
{}^nC_4k^4 & {}^{n-1}C_4k^4 & {}^{n-2}C_4k^4 & {}^{n-3}C_4k^4 & \cdots & 0 \\
interestingly, it's upper triangular

5:06 PM
Isn't it inconsistent with some biological principle or something?
What does evolution have to say about this?

Life works against itself in the sense that we all must die

@Mostafa No!
No no non no
First of all, your teeth only decay if you eat a modern diet, i.e. one with starches etc.
I remember when I was in college, I took a course in forensic anthropology.
We examined several skeletons, and many teeth from South American near the start of the 1900's. These teeth were extremely white and I never saw a single cavity.

Our bodies begin to decay the moment we are born.

They were worn down, i.e. the sharp cusps were largely gone, but they were as white as pearls.
Furthermore, death is not a failure of life.
It is absolutely essential to evolution.
Evolution works by allowing the genetic material to change in response to changing environmental parameters, and in response to competition with others. If the organism never dies, then the population can never change.
If the population doesn't change, then there's no mechanism for adaptation.
Furthermore, consider two species: one naturally dies of age and the other does not.
The first species will evolve and get better at finding food, fighting, etc. If these two species compete for the same resources, then eventually, the first species will drive the other to extinction (taking an extreme case).
Death is one of the most important parts of a viable species. Even Tolkien understood this when he wrote death as God's "gift" to men. In fact, the Lord of the Rings story illustrates what I've described: the Elves are immortal but unable to adapt to the changing Earth and are replaced by mortal men.
@Mostafa Please say if this is unsatisfactory. I feel strongly about this issue and am happy to discuss it.

@DanielSank If this is true I'm definitely going to change my diet
I agree with the other parts. I'm only talking about teeth that seemigly don't obey these^

5:19 PM
I agree that teeth are weird.
They don't heal. If you break a tooth, that's it, it's gone.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm saying

Well think of this: if you break your arm and it's not some time in the last thousand years, you're pretty much screwed too.
Evolution means that genetic material moves toward higher suitability in the environment. It doesn't mean that everything in an organism is perfectly engineered.
In modern life, we'd do better with computer I/O in our brains, right? But obviously we don't have that.

@DanielSank Why? bones naturally heal themselves

@Mostafa Ok let me put this another way: suppose it's 2000 years ago and you get a bacterial infection.
Say, strep throat.
Without antibiotics, that can turn into scarlet fever, blindness, and death.
My point is just that for most of human history, there were a lot of "injuries" that were pretty much deadly. Life expectancies were shorter than they are now.
If you lost a couple teeth by the time you were 30, it really wasn't a big deal because you'd be dead in ten years anyway.
And people weren't getting cavities from starchy diets.

@DanielSank Yeah but none of them are the result of a natural act such as eating

Again, if you're eating meats and foraged foods, you're not getting cavities.

At least, that's what my limited experience with some South American skeletons says.

I'm pretty sure wolves and deer don't walk around with cavities in their mouths. I could be wrong about that.
Deer have a somewhat different kind of tooth than we do though.

Teeth can actually heal themselves to some extent through remineralisation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remineralisation_of_teeth

As you get older the healing slows down.

@DanielSank I have read a lot of similar articles....people saying you can heal cavities naturally. But they all seem to be crackpots

@DanielSank I agree that death is a very effective mechanism to select individuals with advantageous adaptations, but I don't see any reason not to think about a hypothetical, less dramatic method to enforce that fitness function.
Given, of course, high enough intelligence of a species.

@DanielSank I'm not going to do any proselytizing for MS, but Win7 and Win10 are excellent operating systems both of which I use for hours every day. But ... Win8 was a bit of a design disaster - even MS have tacitly admitted as much.
The Win8 kernel is fine, but the user interface they built round it is a barely usable bastard hybrid of their PC and phone variants of Windows.

Why don't you go to another dentist and get a second opinion? @Mostafa

Humans can artificially adapt parts of themselves already, with gene therapy, prostheses...

@Mostafa: I spent a year working with the dental research group when I was at Unilever Research.
We had a couple of scientists looking at remineralisation.

@DanielSank Most of these are based on the works of this guy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weston_Price

@dmckee Thank you for the list! I am cleaving my way. I am also drifting mails to professors in my home city. But I am not so sure I should send them after I have finished my studies on basic QFT. (s.t. to show my earnestness and determination), or as soon as possible.(s.t. to get as much as research experience as possible).

@Justwinbaby It's not just about this wisdom tooth (which has to be removed). Dental health is very important to me in general

I spend ~45 mins a day taking care of my teeth :)

(I will need to contact professors in the universities in my home city. I studied aboard.)

Find a dentist who will give you good advice on taking care of your teeth then @Mostafa

@Mostafa what?
How is that even possible

Oh, you're back to your old name!

Perhaps ask something like this @Mostafa

Q: Impacted wisdom tooth

FawkesI have a impacted wisdom tooth. I am thinking about having a dentist extract it. What are the pros and cons when your molar is being extracted?

Q: What's involved in an extraction of palatally impacted teeth?

ZahnpatientI have two impacted teeth (some combination of premolars and molars) that are on my palate. They are fairly close to my "normal" teeth: generally, the only impact of them on my everyday life is a slight pressure I sometimes feel on the sides of my tongue. However, my dentist has suggested that I...
