shaft animation just made thing worse if i say , i felt like that
06:38
shaft didn't make it any worse, IMO. the story just jump all over the place and do as they please, and I got bored because of that
that is one reason but the animation , the background , maybe to match the theme of anime
I don't mind the animation really, I like it
it was something different from the normal what i watch normally , it may be the reason that i tool time to adjust , but as anime progress i became comfortable
and completed the anime
well it's shaft, they always make anime like that
just like monogatari
and many other
not everyone like the style tho
but it watch a little bit different
i don't say i don't like shaft animation
don't forget nisekoi

yea also Nisekoi
so i do like their animation , don't i ?
I haven't watch that many Shaft to judge really
so far I like every animation style they have despite of not finished their anime

guess I"ll have to conduct my own research
I think chat responds with the timeout in seconds so you could automate the wait
at least it says how many seconds you must wait for users
Maybe it wasn't triggered because those oppais are posted in a single post
oh
must be it
but you can post the exact same messages consecutively, you just gotta wait 3 minutes between each

@user1306322 I did suggest one a little while back iirc
I'm still in the process of reworking the core bot app functionality, but the more suggestions I have in mind now, the better the core app will be suited to implement them
in Shinonome Lab (東雲研究所), Oct 14 at 7:51, by Logan M
@user1306322 It would be cool for Karasu says nyanpasu~ when other people do. Maybe only if we get a chain of a few in a row though, and not more than once in a chain.
can't exactly refit something for something you don't know about
Feature request: cuter girls
I've figured out the logic for that already, but it's in a separate module and the module manager is not implemented yet
08:19
oh wait that's my job nvm
Oh, even better, just make Hoi-Hoi adds "de gozaru" or something like that at the end of it/her sentence
@LoganM this is entirely your responsibility now :P
@SakuraiTomoki we could do cosplays for bots
that's a nice idea
(stolen)
@user1306322 good idea. Put several image files in one directory and make Hoi-Hoi apply 1 randomly everyday.
Is there any way to programmatically enhance the cuteness of girls in images?
@LoganM Image processing?
08:21
there is, but it would not be perfect for a long time and the results would be uncanny as hell
okay, we can have that as a long term goal i guess
is that a cat?
grumpy brown thing
more like a tanuki, I say
08:27
Oh, a feature so that when someone joins the chat room, Hoi-Hoi welcomes him/her
Like maids in maid cafes.
this is a problematic one
We can't have that one unless it's opt-in
SE devs have said it's not allowed
Can't u just raise an event when someone joins and have Hoi-Hoi catch that?
08:28
but presumably it would be okay if it's opt-in
It's possible to do with HoiHoi-san already. Just disabled.
and it's pretty creepy without timeout, it's like the maid is watching you come in through the window and as soon as you touch the door, screams "WELCMOE MAH MASTRE" at you
@user1306322 good for Halloween then
hmm
I like you
say more stuff
feature request: Have Karasu post philosophical quotes randomly at completely irrelevant times.
oh yes that has been in for a long time
suits Karasu too
08:36
Things like "A bird in the hand is not dinner tonight. Don't eat me.", "Don't count your chickens before they know not what they do.", or "Rome wasn't built in the sea."
or was it?
we'll never know
I'll whip up a Quote module so you could upload quotes into it the same way as image links
A friend of mine wrote a short script to generate nonsense quotes.
What language Hoi-Hoi is written in? C++?
javascript
08:39
no need to go into extremes when writing chat bots :p
Karasu too?
no, he's in C#
You could integrate that into Karasu, or I could just run it and generate a few thousand.
@LoganM coffeescript?
08:40
uh yes, you should just give me the generated results >.>
(googles coffeescript)
It compiles directly to javascript
Equivalent javascript code:

var randEntry, randIndex, randUpTo, _ref;

window._d = window.d = (_ref = typeof console !== "undefined" && console !== null ? console.log.bind(console) : void 0) != null ? _ref : function() {};

randUpTo = function(num) {
return ~~(num * Math.random());
};

randIndex = function(arr) {
return randUpTo(arr.length);
};

randEntry = function(arr) {
return arr[randIndex(arr)];
};

d3.text('data/aphorisms.txt', function(err, text) {
var db, generate, i, lineIndex, lines, token, tokens, tokensByLine, wordsByLine, _i, _j, _k, _len, _len1, _results;
oh so it's superlanguage over javascript
Pantsu!
@AsadaShino Okaerinasai, Ojou-sama!
08:53
Feature request: we should be able to battle against Karasu in WIXOSS, and he should be unbelievably bad.
(googles wixoss)
don't google it, just watch the show
it's good
has cute girls
and lrigs
are the game mechanics interesting?
no idea
I watch for the girls. I don't actually know the rules
you didn't pay attention?
">.>
08:56
I payed attention to how cute they were
7.47/10
maybe when I'm out of everything else
where are you looking at that score?
mal confirmed for terrible taste
08:57
I don't think we ever did
Prix was gonna get in contact with some guys at Crave to see if they could update their api, but I'm not sure they did
we had anidb and vndb at one point
chat froze for a few seconds there :D
guess it's not working quite well
09:00
at least it works
last I checked vndb doesn't work any more
doesn't seem to work
Worth pointing out though that WIXOSS is directed by the same guy who directed Steins;Gate, and is comparably good. But MAL hates it for two reasons: 1) cute girls, and 2) card games, so they underrate it by a ton.
@Well, they can complain about the card games, but not the cute girls part.
If they were burly men fighting with axes, it would be like 9.8/10 even if nothing else changed.
Wonder how they score card games with burly men playing it...
09:11
> Only write what hasn't been written yet.
Generally speaking, the only case in which I trust MAL ratings is to compare somewhat similar series which aired around the same time. MAL gets right that WIXOSS is significantly better than Z/X Ignition, Fantasista Doll, and Yugioh Arc-V. That's about all I trust it to tell me.
I don't even know what the others are
any of those, in fact
Likewise, MAL gets right that NGNL is better than Log Horizon, which is better than SAO. But if you look by absolute scores, you'd think SAO is quite a bit better than WIXOSS. In reality, SAO is horrible, but gets lots of votes because MAL fans are suckers for anything MMO or game-related for unknown reasons. WIXOSS is easily one of the best in it's genre, and by any reasonable measure is far better than SAO.
I only know that Yugioh is a guy with huge yellow and black hairdo :p
this is why anime rating sites need score within genres
not just overall
not enough stats
no, we just need to not rely on crowd-sourced stats. Because the majority of the crowd is stupid.
09:19
SAO was quite good, but indeed went south after it enters the ALO arc.
Which is to say that it was bad for most of the time.
let it go, rating does not bother me anymore
@LoganM there just needs to be a better rating system that allows for biased ratings to be accounted for manually, not automatically
Well, SAO II is about GGO
when you know that objectively a title is 7.5 but you give it 9 because you really like it, just say so and it's gonna be fine for everybody else who doesn't care much for the genre
09:20
@user1306322 I disagree. You can correct for minor inaccuracies with that sort of thing. You can't correct for a majority of people just being wrong.
I say GGO is ok. Nowhere near the original SAO, but definitely better than ALO.
@LoganM another option is to follow the ratings of select users who you know rate most things objectively, or at least most genres except a few (which you can exclude for their rating)
it's more complicated, but it's the only way to get a precise rating
You don't need a precise rating.
and if you really want to get your ratings precise, you will bother setting it all up
You need one of three categories: good, meh, bad.
09:22
or that
Or alternatively, watch, maybe, don't.
I have some rating systems in my sketchbok, and the basic rule is not focusing on negative score gradations as much as positive
Making it on a 10 point scale is silly. A good rating system would give you 3 options per show, and match you with people with similar tastes to suggest more.
3 is easy and will work for most users
more thorough users would want to use a more precise rating
Actually getting it right is complicated. Netflix hires multiple PhD mathematicians to try to optimize their recommendations, and pays them pretty nicely.
Giving people more than 3 options is a slippery slope of bad. Sure, users want to be able to rate things more finely, but empirical data suggests they're increasingly inconsistent when given more options.
09:26
my sketchbook has 4 options at the very least, 7 and 9 at most
If you ask people to rate something on a scale of 0-2, they are fairly consistent, but on a scale of 1-10, it's quite common that they'll give quite different ratings just based on their mood on the particular day.
4 doesn't have a neutral option, just slightly and strongly bad/good >.<
7 and 9 have neutral, but these aren't for common users
I forget where I read this but it was some psychological effect which is quite reproduceable, and was a major reason cited for using rubrics while grading.
what about 5? Very bad, bad, ok, good, very good?
5 could be okay. I would never trust anything with more than 5.
09:28
@SakuraiTomoki if we're going for precision, 5 is not enough already
@user1306322 no, 5 is already too much imo.
@LoganM for norlam users
norlam т_т
The only reason I'd go more than 3 choices is to appease angry users who don't understand how bad they are at using more than 3 choices.
But the more you add, the worse they get. So don't add too much.
With ten define how a show is to be score 0, 1, 2 and so on till 10?
10 is perfect
Near perfect?
9?
Ideally, I'd only have 2 options, good/bad, but I know people will moan that they don't have a meh option.
09:31
I think 7 is enough
The further its is from 10 and 5 the harder to define. Same with scores between 0 and 5
With 10 points, the only way you can possibly do it is with a rubric. And unless you think the average MAL user is grading shows with a checklist next to their screen, you're just making your data worse.
The harder it is to define, the harder it is for the user to give a correct score
The majority of academic surveys use 2 or 3 options, which is good practice. Some use 5 when it's important to be able to get finer data on the tails, but I've never seen one that seemed credible with more than 5.
@LoganM exactly why I said 5.
09:33
That's about what you want. Psychology repeatedly confirms that more than that is just bad practice.
Even with 5, it depends on how you represent them.
During my university days, we have a system where we score the lecturers performance during the whole semester.
check this:
It was graded from 1 to 7
− Some of the best, must watch
− Very good
− Good
− Somewhat good

− Neutral

− Bad, but watchable
− Very bad, don't watch
If you do it as smiley faces, it could be okay. But if you use stars, you'll see the average score will be in the 3.5-4 stars range, which is just stupid.
@user1306322 you don't need 3 good categories.
09:34
there's 4 :p
and yes you do
no, you absolutely don't
That will get you MAL-class ratings.
there's lots of god stuff but you want the very best and this help find exactly what you want
might as well ask for anime recommendations on chat roulette.
and we just score it depends on our mood
too many questions and too many options.
@SakuraiTomoki then you include your mood to the rating
09:36
Here is the absolute best rating system if the things that are rating it are humans:

- Good
- Meh
- Bad
Great mood (+2 to rating)
which means 9/10 = 7/10 :p
No, my point is, too many options also cause the user to score it based on mood.
Make it lesser, more general so that they are less biased by their mood
I wonder if we could compare the same scores on a 10 point scale to 3 point scale from the same people…
5 at most is quite clear. VG, G, O, B, VB
maybe let's do an experiment?
09:38
why do an experiment when the psychologists have already done it before many times?
just go look up the literature on surveys
say we each rate 100 most popular titles and see how different the results will be
well I don't trust some random psychologists on the internet :p
I trust users who watch anime and use StackExchange
That's why you look up published psychology journal articles, not random internet websites.
any suitable links?
I'd still like to see how that research conclusion correlates to our own results

I-58 was a Japanese B3 type cruiser submarine that served in the final year of World War II. Modified to carry Kaiten manned torpedoes, she damaged two enemy destroyers with them, but her most significant success was the USS Indianapolis, sunk with conventional torpedoes on 30 July 1945. The submarine surrendered in September 1945, and was later scuttled by the United States Navy. == Service history == The submarine was laid down on 26 December 1942 at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, and launched on 30 June 1943.
