Q: Does all the manga are supposed to publish as oneshot

Naing Lin AungI heard of some popular manga ( example - Naruto,Nurahiyon No Mago, Beelzebub) are published in oneshot during their first try. I want to know about that is apply for all manga or not? how many manga are published as oneshot first or where can i get list?

Lolis suck. I hate lolis.
@iKlsR You're a terrible person.

It would have been faster if I hadn't been busy with @Sakamoto 's most recent post

@ton.yeung digimon is not a game-based anime, it's a meta-series!
it holds its own!
I think we could come up with other examples that are hard to refute, like Slam Dunk or Cardcaptor Sakura.
@ton.yeung the series is only loosely based off the game pet toy
@ton.yeung you lolicon, I should tell your GF
@ton.yeung that's when it starts
@ton.yeung whoa! furry too?!
oh schnap!
Furries: Nerds other nerds make fun of ;)

Q: Which might be the first anime and manga "time loop" type

Naing Lin AungIn a few anime and manga the protagonist or entire group are stuck in certain time event can't make time move forward. I mean whatever the protagonist does, the day is always September 2 all the time. In order to change that, he needs to do something. For example (Kurugaya route in Little Buster ...

Q: What were the first anime and manga based on real idols?

Naing Lin AungAKB0048 (anime) and AKB49 (manga) are based on popular Japanese idol group AKB48. What were the first manga and anime based on real idols instead of fictional characters?

01:21
Do you guys think this is an improvement over the previous version of the list?
16
A: What databases and listing sites exist for anime, manga, etc?

Logan MAll lists are alphabetized, for lack of a better method. If you have a better suggestion just go for it. For the moment, due to the size of this answer, I've not included any specific features of each. If you want to add this, please do so for everything from a category, not just a single entry. ...

Specifically, moving characters/people/industry/music below each instead of giving them separate sections
@LoganM I would say so, yes. Excellent job.
This post is turning out to be a nontrivial amount of work, partly because I've never used most of these sites. However I think it's going to save work in the long run and hopefully other people can take care of the edits when necessary from now on.
01:41
So, my university just updated their student dashboard. I was excited at first, until:
And not only that, they removed the most useful link on the page.
A+ for the redesign.
We had a redesign while I was in undergrad which really messed everything up. But apparently it was really necessary because the software they were running was 20+ years old and totally unsupported the only guy who still knew how to use it was retiring.
lol, I wish ours would. Our software is awful.
It's probably running close to 20 years as well.
1988: PeopleSoft HRMS released.
25 years.
IIRC the one we had had been out of support for 20+ years, and they kept around one IT guy whose job was literally to maintain the software. He wrote so many modifications to it that it was almost unrecognizable from the original. In any case, the only server that had that could run it was old enough that they had to shut it down for all but a few hours per day so that it wouldn't overheat.
I may be exaggerating because I only heard this via hearsay, but that's what my friend who worked in IT told me.
He may have literally meant 20 years. I can easily see that. Likely PeopleSoft was updated after 1988 (since it uses JavaScript that wasn't available in browsers at the time) but it's certainly a legacy system.
Jeez.
How many starred loli messages do we have?
01:59
@Eric No idea but I like lolis so I'm okay with it.
Everyone likes lolis. It's just quite a statistical anomaly.
I think it depends on how you count. For example does my most recent starred message count?
@LoganM No, only those which are both A) positive, and B) contain the word "loli" or "lolis".
Okay we could figure that out with search
I count 7 stars on 3 messages, though for some reason the most recent one by @iKlsR isn't coming up.
Maybe search is glitchy
Indeed, same for me. I feel like there's been a lot more.
This page by itself has 8 stars for positive loli-related messages.
24 total stars. Forgot to count messages.
Approximately 10-15.
02:06
Something is broken then.
I think it's cutting off results.
If you sort by stars in the search, it's more accurate.
I get 22 stars.
(The other two were on one for "lolicon", which isn't coming up for "loli".)
I think at least a couple of the stars might be not intended. I had a very long message that I typed during a debate, but by the time I entered it everyone else had already agreed on the same thing. I think that got some stars, but it was unnecessarily long so I edited it to something about lolis.
Yeah, I seem to recall that.
We can probably say confidently 20+.
Which is a lot of stars about lolis.
Found it.
Apr 30 at 23:31, by Logan M
I love lolis
Only 3 stars total, so probably no more than 2 are unintentional.
02:37
I forgot until that guy added it, but Neregate has some pretty good images.
@LoganM Which guy?
@Eric Whoever it was that added it to my big resources post.
oh, gotcha.

@LoganM don't you think you guys were a bit hasty with anime.stackexchange.com/questions/4872/…?
It could probably still be improved, can't it?
Blah, I think it's time I formatted my PC :X
^ I do that once a year and I reccomend that
@dragon112 I run a dual boot with Ubuntu, and the difference is speed is like 500%, no kidding.
Time to format :X, but I'm lazy as shit lol XD
Who isn't?
I have installed AVG as virus scanner and it keeps insisting that my PC has booted xx% faster then when AVG was first installed.. I can assure you IT DOES NOT!
I'll probably be getting NOD
08:03
@dragon112 I'm on MSE
Or nothing at all.
You actually like MSE?
@dragon112 It works, it's quiet, and it updates silently without being all grandiose about it.
I'm usually on Ubuntu though, where an AV isn't necessary.
(yet)
Have you seen "Gin no Saji"/"Silver Spoon"?
Some guy told me it was pretty good
08:30
@dragon112 Nope, what's it about?
Not really sure, very nature-oriented and apparently very educational.
@dragon112 Huh
I prefer stuff with more action though :P
That's the main reason why I disliked Watamote!
Me too, if I want to learn I'll watch discovery channel
I also stopped watching Watamote after episode 4, just too slow.
For some reason I do like Uchouten Kazoku which is also rather slow

anime.stackexchange.com/questions/4872/… i probably missed the conversation on this question. Is it too much if I edited out the list request and voted for reopening, or should I leave it to the original poster?

Q: Is the amount of chakra extracted equal to the size of the part that is cut off from the biju?

Roger MWhen the Eight-tales got a part of his tail cut off, Sasuke brought back the Eight-tales body, but only about (estimate) 94% of it (due to the tail part still remaining with Killer B in it). Does that mean that they were able to extract 94% of the Eight-tales chakra? This also applies to Ginkaku...

Q: In what order should I watch Daily Lives of High School Boys series?

user1306322According to Wikipedia, there are 12 main episodes and 7 specials. In the beginning of the second main episode, there is a note saying: "this story has a proper ending". I guess this is supposed to mean the story continues (or is concluded) in a special episode. So what is the proper order of the...

16:35
Is really becoming a thing? Nothing here or on meta from what I can tell, but it's been suggested a bunch.
@ton.yeung But does it warrant its own tag? I'd argue no, since it becomes a meta tag like .
A tag, in general, should be able to be defined by having a quality such that an expert in that tag could answer a given question. I would argue there cannot be an expert in viewing orders.
My thoughts exactly. KILL IT WITH FIRE.
@ton.yeung Long long ago
Hmmmm
Gah, who's approving them?
Nah, doesn't warrent its own tag
I'm rejecting them
@Krazer approved :P
Indeed he did.
banhammer!
I personally thought that we'd probably get more of these typse of questions in the future and though it would be valid/useful to include them
16:52
It's ambiguous, though.
@Krazer Can you imagine an expert on ?
That, too. ^
hmm maybe maybe not.... but if we do get question like, X series has Y spin-offs (or part of Z-metaverse) that are related, how would I read it in order to grasp the entire story
@ton.yeung lets take Railgun for an example, chronologically it starts before Index
Also the Saint Seiya series
the sequels are technically prequels
Similar to say, the mess that is Gundam or Macross :P
Same with the Akagi, Ten, Washizu series
17:00
@ton.yeung If you want to watch the original Macross, for example, the Macross Zero does add value to the story as it is set before that.
@ton.yeung don't diss the animation, sometime is was state of the art when it came out
@Krazer chronological order and viewing order are different things.
enjoy the collective work, not just the looks
For some series, absolutely, but there are plenty of examples where it adds value.
what about questions like should I watch X series before starting Y (which is a sequel or spin off of Y, but not very closely related like Gunbuster to Diebuster)
or watch the original Kanon vs the remake
17:05
Remake! Similar to Clannad vs Clannad Movie. :P
@ton.yeung lol
@ton.yeung but what if you want to appreciate both and their differences?
weighing on whether something is better or not is too subjective
I'm confused here: What are we discussing? I thought we were talking about whether or not to use , not which series tag to use.
@Krazer I disagree with that tag by its very name. Saying "suggested" automatically means to me "primarily opinion-based".
I think viewing order questions are on topic since they are generally made to be watched in a specific order. In the cases where they're not, we can say "release order is fine, there is no predetermined order."
There are definitely benefits to a view order. Just a random example, the Nanoha series. There are anime and manga with the same name and the A's manga is split into two pieces, before and after the anime. Watching by release date alone will make for a very confusing story with all the remakes and related material.
17:11
@Eric I think it can be answered in a objective way, like what 4ch did with anime/manga merchandise shopping
@ton.yeung there is, you're not looking hard enough~
@ton.yeung The OP isn't included on the OST, but there is a full version on YouTube somwhere (unless it's been removed).
@Krazer Yeah, but not with "suggested". I just don't see the need for us to separate them from normal questions.
@ton.yeung Download all the songs!
@ton.yeung lol
@ton.yeung Amazon might trace the referral without relying on the URL.
It's a bit of a shady way to do it, but it's possible.
Referer is quite possible, yeah.
@ton.yeung Why?
17:17
@Eric I think this might merit it, specially with series that go out of order/ have various alternative arcs intentionally (while not many, they exist) a bit like symbolism and tropes... like if I wanted to watch the pokemon movies side by side, when and where should I start X movie
A little sad if you have a referer header blocking plugin :P
@Eric there are other hacks for doing that too
@Krazer But that's a specific question, it doesn't require a tag to ask it. If it does, that means it won't be tagged with the series tag, which will lose potential for real experts on the series to input.
@ton.yeung That's how Google Analytics does it, AFAIK.
GA has an unique ID per site passed in the query string
Something along those lines, anyway, since it can track incoming from any site.
@RoelvanUden No... if I post a link to my website here, I will start getting Analytics results for chat.stackexchange.com. No ID required.
17:23
@Eric What if say I wanted to watch the progression of ("Kill 'em all") Tomino's depression and it's effects on series characters and compare that to his post depression series?
@Eric Yeah that is based on the referer, they use the referer field in the document and pass it along with their update snaps
@Krazer I'd tag it with both series (separate names?) tags.
@RoelvanUden Yes, this is exactly what I meant. :)
@Eric what if it spans a multiverse?
@Krazer All involved series tags.
Can you see it being answered by someone who would follow but not any of the involved series?
@ton.yeung AKA subscription Twitter? Yes. :P
@ton.yeung Over what? Twitter?
Anyone got a possible recommendation for a VN to read (Excluding Grasaia and Katawa Shoujo)? Something that is awesome. :P
17:28
@RoelvanUden I would recommend asking Logan, but he's not here right now for whatever reason. He should be around later.
@ton.yeung Hakuna matata?
xD
Those are VNs?...
:D
@Eric hmm, probably not. Chornological order by release usually make sense
@RoelvanUden Ever17?
@Krazer Oh! That looks pretty cool. You played it?
@RoelvanUden yes, Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo is pretty good too
also REwrite!
I couldn't enjoy Rewrite really. The other one I have in queue now, along Ever17
For some reason, I love the Key-based anime, but the VNs I don't enjoy.
I don't know why.
I tried Clannad, Little Busters, Rewrite and Kanon..
17:34
@RoelvanUden Air? Ef?
@Krazer Hmn I am a little against doing a VN of which I've seen the anime now.
@Krazer Indeed, and if it doesn't, then surely someone who knows the series intimately can shed some light on it.
@Eric I guess I was thinking too much in terms of... Blade Runner having to many different cuts, what is the best cut to watch to get conculsion
@Krazer Yeah, and I think a question like that is best as just .
@Eric ok I fold
17:41
:o
Should we nuke the tag, then?
@senshin congrats on 1k!
@Eric why not?
lol
18:01
@MadaraUchiha I agree that it can be improved, and it needed to be improved. That's why we closed it. I could have done it myself but that OP has posted quite a few questions that have been closed, so I wanted him to do it so that he would better understand what is okay here. Also there were several possible interpretations to take of the question. Anyway it's fine now so it's good that it got reopened.
@RoelvanUden Muv Luv (be sure to play all the way through to Alternative), G-senjou no Maou, Sharin no Kuni, Kamidori, Baldr Sky, Sengoku Rance, Majikoi, F/SN, and Tsukihime all come to mind if you want something sort of action-y.
For romance the list is quite a bit longer and I'd have a hard time listing all of them.
If you give me a general idea of what sort of stories you like I can probably make a list.
@ton.yeung Muv Luv Alternative is one of the best VN I've ever played. It was made in 2006 but the production values they put into it make it look good even by today's standards. The writing and characters are all top-tier and it really makes the time spent on the previous Muv Luv games worth it.
The anime, by comparison, was pretty mediocre in my book.
@LoganM I played all routes in Katawa Shoujo and Grisaia no Kajitsu. I finished one route in Little Busters before I got bored with that. I never finished Kanon, Clannad or Rewrite. I want to have an amazing store, romance or otherwise, as long as it's not too disturbing.
LB gets a lot better as you get further in the story. The same is true for a lot of Key VNs, especially Rewrite.
Anyway all the ones up there are ones that IMO have really good story.
A couple more with more of a romance theme: White Album 2, Hoshizora no Memoria, Irotoridori no Sekai, ef, Planetarian, Hatsuyuki Sakura.
18:18
Irotoridori no Sekai is not translated or so it seems (Yes, I'm going through them one by one to see what I might like :P)
Similar to White Album it seems
Theres a lot not translated :D
Sorry I didn't remember which had translations so I just listed all of them.
@ton.yeung White Album and White Album 2 are in the same series, but they don't share any characters or plot points. The original was okay, but it's from 1998 so it feels old nowadays. They have made rereleases which update the graphics if you really want to play it. In any case it seems that neither 1 nor 2 is translated so maybe you should ignore that anyway.
Most are not translated, some that are will crash on boot for some reason :3
@ton.yeung Hm? Kamidori Alchemy Meister will crash once you start the game here, for example. How does a vM Help?
@ton.yeung WA 2 is quite a bit better in terms of story and characters as well. I recommend WA 2 to everyone, but WA 1 only to those who are actually interested in it.
Just pirate Japanese Windows and go from there.
@Eric I don't agree that the two are equivalent. "suggested" means subjective, but not necessarily primarily opinion-based. There are questions here that could be used with such a tag, e.g. "What order should I watch the Lupin III movies?" Sure, there's no strictly right answer to the question, but it requires a lot of knowledge of the series to even start to answer it so IMO it could fit as a good subjective question.
> sub·jec·tive Adjective Based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions.
I don't see the difference...
@Eric primarily is the word you're missing.
18:32
@LoganM I would contend that "based on" implies "primarily". In this case, yes, you could have a good subjective answer, but the fact that it's a suggestion, I would say that's begging for someone to give information without requiring anything to back it up.
Questions that ask for informed opinions of experts that require a lot of knowledge are often good questions. The problem is not when opinions are important, but when everyone is entitled to their own opinion without evidence.
@Eric No that's absolutely incorrect. Here's their description from the blog post announcing the new close reasons blog.stackoverflow.com/2013/06/the-war-of-the-closes
> primarily opinion based - Many good questions generate some degree of opinion based on expert experience, but answers to this question will tend to be almost entirely based on opinions, rather than facts, references, or specific expertise.
@LoganM but answers to this question will tend to be almost entirely based on opinions, rather than facts, references, or specific expertise
@Eric How is the question "What is a good order to watch the Lupin III movies?" almost entirely based on opinions?
@LoganM It's not. Tagging it with implies that it is.
Situation:
18:36
I disagree. IMO you're reading too much into the wording.
Itachi vs Kisame
Kisame already has Itachi in his large water sphere
@MadaraUchiha Who is more moe?
Who wins?
@MadaraUchiha Obito.
I don't have any idea who these people are.
18:38
@Eric Now seriously :P
@MadaraUchiha Oh, sorry. Pride.
I admit that was the obvious answer, but I thought you were going for in-universe.
If I have to pick either Itachi vs Kisame, I might as well flip a coin. I honestly have no idea. :P
Anyway @Eric I'm not opposed to getting rid of the tag because I don't see it being very useful. But if you're going to do that it should probably get a meta question so that the guy doesn't just add it back.
@LoganM Good point. I'll do that now.
@ton.yeung Let's assume he's really trapped at the beginning of the battle
Like a handicap.

Q: Do we need a 'viewing-order' tag?

The following questions were suggested to be tagged: What is the chronological order of the Monogatari Series? What is the pro...
