9:00 PM
Now I've never been a moderator on any site, so I don't know exactly what the tools look like, but I've read enough about them on meta.
Mods aren't allowed to say anything about this since, it can help cheaters stay under the radar.

@Mysticial Security by obscurity is the best way to go!

I'm not sure if mods can see any timing information in their voting tools.
Like if a user A cast X upvotes on user B in a short amount of time.

I would guess it shows the timestamp of the votes.
Probably in the same way it does in the reputation tab of the user page.

Well, mods can't see the individual votes themselves.

Ah. Then it's hard to say.

9:04 PM
But I figure they can probably infer a lot of them if they really wanted to.
And only devs have the "view votes" option.
Some of the community mods have dev access so they can do that too.
I'm 99% sure Shog does. And I've seen a meta post that hinted at Anna being able to see votes.
Shog also has database write access since I've seen him change bounty votes and overwrite deletion votes.

If you were keeping track of weekly voting stats (like I've been) it would be obvious who the serial voter is.
@Eric おいしゃさん

Dum Dum DUMMMMM Who is it?
Colonel Mustard?
Professor Plum?

@LoganM I thought that might be さ... is it valid to leave out part of that curve for the letter? In the same way as writing リ?

For now, I'm not telling because I could be wrong. But a particular user's total votes for the week dropped by the same number as the number of cancelled serial upvotes for @Krazer and me last night. Generally, votes don't just disappear like that, especially not in large quantities.
@Eric That is the proper way to write さ handwritten.

@LoganM Indeed. I also find it interesting that, in the voter list, there is a user whose rep shows up at 0. (Not at 138, which they actually have.)

9:14 PM
@Mysticial I can't find anything concerete the supermods said voting should be anonymous even if it's serial up and downvotes

@Krazer ah

@Eric お医者さん (doctor)

@Krazer Yup, Logan beat ya though. But thanks! ^_^

@Eric I don't see that. If I go to "all" then I see the all-time rep for users and their all-time votes. If I go to "week" then I see their rep and votes for the week.

@LoganM Ah, that's why. I'm in "week", so he just hasn't gotten any rep this week.
Thought I was in all. :P

9:21 PM
Anyway, I thought mods could see when someone triggers the serial voting script. Is that not the case?

@LoganM The supermods can see it, but I don't think I can
unless this becomes a serial thing I don't see a point in getting them involved
There is a part of the secret mod tools for voting patterns but I don't see anything

Secrets!

@LoganM For future even such as this you can add an annotation on the users for file for trusted users to collaborate and investigate. If it's not relevant we mod can always purge it.

@Krazer It happened to me 2 days in a row and you 1 day. Admittedly that's not so bad, but if it keeps happening something should probably be done. As I said, I'm pretty sure I know who it is since I've been collecting daily voting stats, though I'm not going to announce it publicly, but if you need me to tell you then I'll be happy to do so.
@Krazer How do I do that?

@LoganM Only mods can annotate.

9:34 PM
@LoganM there should be a option on the user's community profile

@Krazer Normal users don't have that flag-color button.

@Mysticial Ah then never mind that @LoganM

I dunno what color it is on the beta sites. Though. On SO, it's orange.

I could flag one of their posts to inform you. I don't know if that's an appropriate use of flags though.

@LoganM That's not gonna matter here.
Krazer could instantly validate it.

9:38 PM
@Mysticial it's yellow in beta

@Krazer ah

white on a darker almost greenish yellow

The main question is whether that info is even valuable. I'll flag it if @Krazer wants to know who it is (AFAICT) but if not then I won't bother.

@LoganM I'll let it slide for now, but if it happens again. Please flag it.

@Krazer Will do.

9:43 PM
Alright, I'm going to undelete the trap question and edit it. It doesn't look like anyone else is going to chip in on the meta discussion.

@Eric I'm in favor of keeping the trap question.

Good to know.

@Eric I see nothing wrong with it, but we should be careful of how we word these sensitive topics

1
Q: Who was the first "trap character"?

EricA "trap character"(UrbanDictionary entry, may be NSFW) is a character who appears to be a girl until you get in close enough and discover they're a boy; a "reverse trap character" is a girl who appears to be a boy. (Note: The word trap here is not intended to be offensive, or a slur; it is only u...

The edited version. ^

Keen deleted his account?

9:48 PM
I'm gonna purge the comments and leave notice to the meta

@Krazer You can leave custom notices?

@Krazer Please do.

I thought only devs can.

@Mysticial I think he just meant a comment.

I figured as such.

9:52 PM
@Mysticial I meant as a comment, but I can add a post notice if I want to

@Krazer Do any of the post notices even fit?

@Mysticial probably not in this case... only the dispute lock makes sense in this case

And we definitely don't want to lock it.

@Krazer I'm going to flag the guy anyway since I already have the info. You don't have to do anything about it (I don't even really care if the flag is marked helpful) but it'll at least make it easier on you and the other mods if the same guy does something in the future, especially if I can't prove it at that time.

@LoganM Alright, thanks.

10:17 PM
So the question I'd like to ask is...
not sure if it's NC, it seems very subjective
Here's some nice Eva graffiti street art from near where I live: goo.gl/maps/iWeKX

@Krazer wow

That's not graffiti, it's art.

@Mysticial fix'd

Nice, all of the street art near me is just silly stuff

10:31 PM
You have to be really good draw something like that.

@Mysticial drawing with a paint can is very different from a pen and pencil or tablet I'll tell you that... this requires a very good amount of skill to pull off

All we got is stuff by some local artist goo.gl/maps/2tfbh

@Danalog lol

@Eric Yay Gaogaigar

Q: Where is the origin of mecha series?

kuwalyI was wondering where mecha series originated from. It doesn't seem the same as something like the idea of a doll having a soul, which is from Japanese folk beliefs, but it could be. Is there some historical basis for giant fighting robots (or similar things) in Japan? If not, where did they orig...

10:43 PM
@LoganM GaoGaiGar indeed.~

That's an interesting question

We could do robots/mecha for a flavor sometime

You're right. We totally could.
We should be making a list.

Maybe we should be deciding these on meta.
They aren't really official events, but they would still benefit with more community participation.

Yeah, I think that's a good idea.

10:56 PM
Meta is totally the right place for theme discussion

If we're going to put it on meta we should set up some rules for submissions. Otherwise we could end up with Cats every week.

I'd say not the same theme for 6 weeks in a row.
So the earliest we could do cats again is June 1.

@Eric I'm not sure if 6 weeks is long enough.

@LoganM Really? I almost said 4.
I don't think we're going to get the same 6 topics in a loop. Cats, obviously. Because cats.

Anyway this is sort of @Krazer's thing, so IMO we should let him decide how to handle it on meta (unless he doesn't care).

11:02 PM
@Eric give it 10 weeks before repetitions

@JNat 10 is a long time. That's only 5 repetitions a year.

I have the feeling you'd like to do cats more often :P

Cats are cats.

as often as possible

It might be okay without any formal rules if we just request that people don't nominate the same topic that we've done recently.
Anyway the trickier thing is figuring out how we are going to do the voting. Do we make a new post each week or use the same one but delete old answers or what?

11:05 PM
I don't mind doing a new one each week. We can even delete the old posts if we think they're overwhelming meta.

@LoganM I'll make a meta on this now

@Eric I'd actually rather the votes carry over if possible, because then even fairly uncommon things can eventually get a turn.

@LoganM I thought about that as well (just deleting the "selected" post), but I think this will lead to the votes being skewed.

@Eric It might, but it also would give people more of a warning what might be coming up.

That's true. So maybe that's the best way to go.

11:09 PM
should there also be another meta where we keep track of the questions that were asked in each Flavor Day? We'd add an answer after each Flavor Day to keep track of the questions asked on that day
IDK if it's relevant

@JNat I was going to suggest something to that effect. Seems like a good idea to have them all listed in one place.

what do you think @Krazer @Eric?

I think it's a good idea. But I'm an obsessive record-keeper, so I'm not a great person to ask. xD

@Eric aren't we all?

I dunno. Are we?

11:12 PM
we are
Logan is, just look at his meta post keeping track of our stats
:P

@Eric At the very least I am. I don't think many people save all of the SE stat sites on a daily basis.

@LoganM @Eric see?

I knew Logan was, lol.

@Eric BTW I'm considering starting to keep daily records for how many votes each of our top 100 users used in that day. Do you think it's worthwhile?
Actually, I might as well just screencap every user page on a daily basis.

@LoganM That's a lot of effort, though.

11:16 PM
@Eric I can get a bot to do it.

Then I suppose we could. lol, This is like privacy violations 101!

I've got to make sure I don't load too many pages too quickly, but it should be doable.
@Eric It's all public information anyways.

Well, privacy was a bad word. "Stalking" is more appropriate. :)

The only difficulty is with the daily voting, which is updated daily at midnight UTC. Because of that, to get accurate vote totals I need to load the pages near that time or else I could miss some.

Yeah, with so many screencaps some might not line up with the ToD...

11:20 PM
@Eric It's only stalking if it's targeted. If it's done equally to everyone it typically isn't considered as stalking.
I suppose I could have the bot look at anime.stackexchange.com/users?tab=voters&filter=week and check whether there are any differences from the previous day, and then just grab those. That would miss some edge cases (e.g. cancelling the same number of votes as you cast in a day, or people who don't vote very much) but it should catch most of the interesting content, and the rest can go on a 24 hr rotation.

Cancelling votes is hard. You can only do it on edited things (or quickly), so I don't think that's an issue.

(also, cases where the user changes their username or is removed need to be checked for, but in general it shouldn't be impossible to do so.)

Q: What flavors would you like to see for our weekly flavor days?

KrazerCurrently we have a weekly event on Saturdays in order to encourage users to come and as question of a specific flavor. It's easier to participate when you have a topic to narrow things down. So far we've done the following flavors: "Cats" (and cat-related things) "Small" and "cute" "Games" an...

there you go people

@LoganM You could parse the URL of the profile and get the ID instead of the uname.

@Eric Yeah that was the plan.

11:28 PM
@JNat I think we should keep it all in one place.
I'll take care of updating the flavors weekly in the meta

ok, I'll write the post now
you can search for last weeks' questions

@JNat I meant keep it in one meta

Really? Keep the suggestions and the question history together?

@Krazer oh, so answer it in the one you made?
I'm not sure that's the better solution
I'll link to the one you made
otherwise, I think it'll be a mess

It will be hard to tell the suggestions and records apart, I think.

11:31 PM
@JNat true, do it as you intended then

I love lolis
3

@LoganM they are quite alluring

xD

lol
@LoganM best edit ever

11:38 PM
@Eric technically the Astroboy manga (1952) predates Tetsujin, No. 28

@Krazer I wouldn't call that part of the mecha genre, would you?

@Eric though not exactly mecha, his designs greatly influenced other robots

@Krazer Alright, I'll see if I can fit that in.

@Eric this article offers some nice historic data theyokocritic.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/…

@Eric Depends on how you define Mecha. If the person has to be piloting it, rather than just controlling it, then Mazinger Z is actually the first AFAIK. If any robots count, then Astro Boy is the first.

Q: What flavors have already been featured in "Flavor Day"?

JNatWe've been promoting an event that takes place every Saturday: "Flavor Day". In each Flavor Day, one or two flavors are picked and questions about them are encouraged (for further info and suggestions for flavors you'd like to see featured, see this post). This post's purpose is to keep track of...

@Krazer feel free to edit that if you think it could be better worded
I'm off now

@JNat I think's it's a bit too much work to list every question asked on that flavor day

@JNat Should this one be CW to encourage users to document their own questions?

@LoganM probably better, yes
@Krazer I don't think it's too much hard work
mostly only us ask questions on flavor day

@JNat oh okay then

we just need to remember to add them as we ask them

11:47 PM
I'll do one of them later. Right now, I want to go get dinner.

right now, I'm going to get some sleep
cya tomorrow

@JNat o/

@JNat You get to do it. :)

Lets ask a lot of questions this week~

yes, thanks
:P

11:59 PM
@LoganM I was going by the definition given for super robot. Not defined by how it's controlled, but its size and purpose.
