it's not that it's a lot of work in terms of doing what I already know how to do, it's the figuring out how the hell the library developers expect the users to work with their product

I think I should also limit that to trusted users to avoid abuse

but we don't have abusive users so it's not a burning issue

I think finding exact dupes isn't too hard, but finding images which are approximately but not exactly the same requires somewhat serious approaches. There's probably some free library somewhere for it, but it doesn't seem too pressing.

If the bot posts one dupe every thousand posts, I doubt anyone will even notice.
