Glasslip reminds me so much of True Tears, but I'm not sure if that's because it's actually similar or just PAWorks + Chickens.

Question bans are only enabled on a few sites.
I'm not sure why the help center has an entry for them on all sites

are apostrophes even allowed in tag names?

I don't think apostrophes are allowed

Q: can anyone tell me what anime is from this picture

tamao13 I'm searching for anime to watch and found this photo

-1
Q: White hated anime boy

user6333I need names and anime. Needs to be... white haired BOY!! short or tall doesn't matter but prefer it a shortie red eyes if possible Answer ASAP!! Try and if you can make it a list

@Sakamoto is that misaka?

Yes
I forget which season of Index it's from though

@LoganM i don't really know from index or railgun so I answer both :p

I'm pretty sure it's from Index
It has Touma in it, and he's only in Railgun S2
I think it's from the sports festival arc thing, but I forget which season of the anime that was

tried to google image, only got "awkward moment"

3:42 AM
Did you try cropping the image to remove the border and then Googling?
Anyway it seems like it's Index S2. The picture is at toarumajutsunoindex.wikia.com/wiki/…

yes I did, twice, result still the same
oh yeah... I'll edit my answer then, thanks

4:05 AM
NGNL is pretty good, it turns out

4:25 AM
Yeah no kidding. There's no way a show with an entire country of kemonomimi girls would be bad.

kemonomimi
nice
@ShinobuOshino noble effort on your part with tag wikis

well thanks, it bug me to see those tag without any explanation
but I only do the one that I know
but you also did the same before

I just did the excerpts, because I didn't know what wikis are supposed to contain
maybe expanded explanation of the plot and adaptations?
genre, production dates
references, spin-offs, OVAs, specials
with proper formatting
huh so I do know now
is there a tag wiki guide post somewhere on meta?

anyway, I just following one of tag wiki that @LoganM did before, only main series etc, I can complete it with genre, production dates, references, spin-offs, OVAs, and specials if I want but I don't really know if that's appropriate
not sure about that

4:36 AM
@ShinobuOshino link?

I did a lot of them but they're not very good
You can probably find better ones

yeah let's do that
First I suppose wikis could use a proper explanation of what the work is called, alternative titles and short names

Then author, studio and genre

oh, I miss the last part

4:37 AM
plot explanation, of course
after that maybe some notes if the work is unusual in any way that cannot be described just by the genre
like in madoka's case
and in the end a list of all related works with production dates, including remakes, 3D versions and such
a list of English-dubbed releases could also be nice, but personally I don't care about that
that seems to be all there is
lower-left girl reminds me of that rocky-fighter guy from Slayers

I think Ene is supposed to look like Miku

somehow that id answer of mine became my best answer with 5 points
I fully expected someone else to snatch it from me and post a better answer
I'll watch it after NGNL I think

It's not unusual for ID request answers to get a bunch of upvotes. You just have to write it in a way that makes it easy for others to verify that you're right

I think that's the success recipe for every answer :p

True, but most answers require some knowledge of the series

4:46 AM
short answer on top, explanation and notes below for those who want to read

ID requests are verifiable by anyone, so they have a bigger audience
I've written ID request answers which got over 10, and much better answers which only got a couple of upvotes since the series was too obscure.
But it's pretty rare for an ID answer to get a lot more than that because they're obviously rather easy in most cases.

5:07 AM

wow that's a lot
And some of them only have like 1 or 2 questions
I don't bother ignoring tags until it gets seriously annoying

I only want to see what I'm really interested in, so it ended up like that

Q: Please help me in identifying an anime that I saw at a store

user6488I need help finding what might be either an anime or an anime movie (I'm not sure which). I have a small description of what it features (or at least whatever I saw from it) Description: The anime (movie) starts off in a dark, cloudy sky, I think. There are apparently factions. One of them featu...

@user1306322 what is this

there, I made it sound like I don't know what I'm talking about
@ShinobuOshino that is, believe it or not, Mekakucity Actors anime: anime.stackexchange.com/questions/11411/…

@Sakamoto I don't know why but I don't like the op
I take requests by strangers way to personally

5:42 AM
but..but...you answer it

@ShinobuOshino I am still conflicted about that decision and angry at the op!
I mean where is he? why is he not adding details? He just said ASAP PLSPLSPLS in his post
> seen 29 mins ago

A lot of the time ppl post stuff like that and just leave and come back days later
Which is really stupid

so you're mad because he said ASAP but not exist after that?
lot user do that

but we do sometimes take days to answer so I guess it's okay

5:46 AM
@user1306322 btw, how you make this?

Yes, lots of users do it, but they should stick around for at least a few minutes because we usually ask for clarification

I think he meant how to do quotes in chat.

> text
> text

>try
oh
> huh

5:47 AM
try again with a space

Needs a space before the >

after

after

yeah meant after

of course I'm mad, I mean what kind of person does that?
ask a pretty detailed question, add ASAP and don't show up

5:49 AM
@user1306322 internet user

it's like saying "nothing I'm saying is trustworthy and I don't really care about the answer"

Honestly the ASAP part just should be edited out
It's not relevant to the question

I agree

I mean, yes, we know they want an answer. That's why they asked in the first place.
That should be true of every question on this site
Knowing that they want it soon doesn't help us answer the question itself..

maybe a habit from other site?
I mean, other than SE

5:52 AM
Probably, but it's a bad habit on any site I know of

here's a little story about internet users: a few weeks ago I got bored and decided to go to random Left 4 Dead 2 servers. Most of them were pretty close to me, somewhere in the range of 60 ms latency, which means it was not farther than european servers. Players were pretty bad, but they tried their best to stay alive and not shoot each other. Then I ended up on a server with everyone lagging at ~170ms. I then said "heavy lags". Nothing negative really, just stating the situation.
I got offensive replies from all three other players. Everything they said was like imgur commenters joke about "xbox call of duty experience". Then they voted to kick me from the server. What kinds of users do that while other users behave much better?
@Eric I see about a third of Japanese Culture followers come from Japanese Language site. You could drop into their main chatroom and announce an event where users would come up with required good example questions and vote on them. That'd be some good advertisement among other chat rooms if these announcements appear everywhere

They've already been regularly advertising the proposal
And all their regular chat users are already there

but it still needs questions and votes
maybe some community bulletin showtime can help
if I understand correctly, all events are shown there

It needs more users, but there's no point in annoying a bunch of people who are already there.

I don't know what else to recommend
imma go to the kitchen, see what I can come up with in food category

6:07 AM
We're not unbelievably far from making it to the next stage
I think we need 10 or 11 more users if they distribute their votes properly
At this point, from a game theoretic perspective, adding more good questions actually harms our chances

@LoganM and why is that?

@ShinobuOshino Because we already have more than 40 good ones. If people add more, the extra ones will just get a bunch of irrelevant votes.

so you're saying that there shouldn't be any more good question?
only mediocre one
or worse

quantity over quality?

6:13 AM
Mediocre/bad ones don't help either
What we need is 40 questions with 10 votes
Any more than that just sucks up votes which could be used towards those 40.
Even if they're bad, there's still a chance they'll get voted on
Of course, SE doesn't want people to game the system like that, but from my view they built the entire system to be gamed.

so you're saying that we should only vote on those 40 good question

yea
the rules of the game require that

Yes, only vote on the top 40 questions

it's not like anyone can take back the next stage from the proposal if it achieves all requirements

Also, if you have any votes on questions that already have a lot of votes, move them to ones with fewer votes

6:17 AM
for example take your vote from a +11 question so it would still have the required +10 and give it to a lower scoring question

you mean like... un-up vote?

Or move your votes from +10 to those with +3 or +4
If we have 5 questions which each require 1 upvote, we can do that with a single user. But if we have one question which needs 5 upvotes, we'll need 5 new users

@LoganM I think that's actually better

So it's better to apply your votes to the questions which are lowest right now
(within the top 40)

6:18 AM
passing users will see +9 and upvote it with more probability than any other questions
imma do that now

Yes, a +9 question will get back to +10 quite quickly
But a +3 or +4 won't get upvoted nearly as much

or... you could edit those at the lowest top 40 so it would be back at first page so people can see them again upvote them

Editing doesn't bump them
Because most people sort by votes

but... I sort for active question

it's just you then :)

6:21 AM
The default is votes
(IIRC)
I'll check

it is, I never changed sorting

Yeah default is votes
I checked in a private window

also I just transfered 5 of my votes from +10 questions to lower scoring ones
> 15 more questions with a score of 10 or more

but everytime someone answer my old question or edit it, sometimes I got new upvote

Yeah it's a bit disappointing to see that number go up
@ShinobuOshino That's on the main site, not area 51

6:22 AM
oh...

On the main site it defaults to activity
But on A51 it's votes

I see what's going on here
sorry I was just miss-communication

vote-manipulation!

I'm not familiar with area 51
but I have an account there

IMO it's only unethical if you actually think those questions are bad. Just make sure the questions you're upvoting are still good ones

6:27 AM
you mean upvote in definition phase?

@ton.yeung think you could poke the guys at github.com/lassevk/SkyNET ?

Q: what kind of details should it be in wiki tag?

Shinobu OshinoRecently I edit some wiki tag, usually I give a picture, English title, Japanese title, other title, production detail, plot, and some link to wikipedia, wikia. I'm not sure if I should also add detail like list episode, chapter, character, link to MAL or others, and genre or references. There'...

it's not a concern for me currently, but in the future it'd be much simpler without needing a virtual machine to run the automation for chat<>bot interface
I could run it on my notebook instead of main pc
or even remotely
I mean I can really do that now, but notebook is too weak and would lag horribly with a vm

6:41 AM
@LoganM @user1306322 I was browsing through area51 but I'm not sure what happen there so I decide not to do anything, at least for now

you'll figure it out eventually
0
A: what kind of details should it be in wiki tag?

user1306322 A nice big illustration showing the main characters; Work type − anime series / movie / short / OVA / ONA / manga / novel / light novel / one-shot, etc; Work names − official English and Japanese titles, alternative titles, short titles; Creators' names − mangaka, director, artist, animation stu...

@user1306322 that's... a lot of work to do

that's the basics
most tag wikis already have half of it done
it's easy to get all that info, too
I only ever have to use Wiki and MAL
genres are all there, but wiki messes them up quite often
original work is easy to find on wiki
adaptations are all on wiki
all related works can be found on mal and sometimes wiki
If done right, both wiki and mal will have inferior description to that

well I guess you're right

It's fine to look at those sources, but be sure everything that you write is in your own words. Otherwise we have to worry about plagiarism

6:57 AM
I edit a little, I was go through wiki, wikia, mal, almost all of them have similar content

oh yeah, both wiki and mal have terrible plot summaries
but if you don't know what to write, they can remind you of the important things about the work

IMO tag wikis aren't something we need to worry about in most cases

I usually write plot summaries as advertisement text, which really is what it's supposed to be if you want people to get interested in the work

A majority of them have <10 total views

that needs to change!

7:00 AM
probably most of those are just ppl who are making sure it's the same thing or experienced users checking what's there

that's why I sort it at top tag first

we can also have our own version of wiki with just the essential information

I don't think it will change because it's never going to be high on Google's ranking
Very few pages link to tag wikis

if only internet knew how valuable that information is

and they tend to backload the relevant content
Anyway we shouldn't be trying to outdo wikipedia or MAL because it's a waste of time. Those sites exist for a reason, and we exist for a different reason.

7:03 AM
you're right
I just think we could do better than both of them in that regard

We could easily do better
But it wouldn't help anyone

that's depressing

You'd be better off improving those pages, which are also editable

oh fuck that
wikipedia is pure evil
ruled by morons

used by all

7:05 AM
should be their motto

Anyway I think the most important things to do in the tag wiki are describe the series enough to clear any ambiguity and possibly link to potential external sources of info.

lol I thought it was going to have Okabe and Daru in maid outfits as well

@LoganM so,, minimal is good enough?

To be honest, for most series, no wiki at all is good enough

7:07 AM
just an image with main characters already does 90% of confirmation work
for similar series some words about how they are different can help

No one needs confirmation what series refers to.

not even tag excerpt :D

Yeah it's entirely irrelevant
But it doesn't hurt anything either

I guess you're right
I just do it for fun anyway

For something like , you should probably point out that DBZ is included, but GT has a separate tag. That's about the only really crucial information
Of course, there's a meta post about that now, so it could change

7:10 AM
so like ambiguity name like fate-series or toaru need explanation

Yes that's a very important thing
It should probably go in the excerpt also if you can fit it

it's...not something I could really do well, unfortunately
well let me see I actually can do that
sigh... if only I can be this passionate with my work

7:26 AM
Hey all
Does anyone knows if SAO II first ep is already released?

It's already aired at a convention, but not on TV. TV release is in 7 hours.
Not sure about simulcasts
But most likely it'll be at least that long

Thanks @LoganM :)
Hope you are doing well... i havent been here in a while

Yeah I haven't seen you in a while

How is teaching going?

Luckily I don't have any since it's the summer

7:34 AM
Awesome :D
Have you seen Knights of Sidonia?

I watched 1 episode, but it was too much CG for me.
I think other ppl here have watched the whole thing though

@LoganM yeah I agree is too much CG but i liked it.. is fine :D
Where can i check the anime's per season?
Is there somewhere?

@HoiHoi-san thanks
@LoganM thanks :D

When do you reckon Kuroko S3 will begin?
I really want to see the Seirin vs Yosei climax.

@Shisui fall/winter 2014 would be my guess

Ah, I can't wait that long!

Luckily, I have Hunter X Hunter until then =D

@Shisui and many more

9:28 PM
Have you seen the first Aldnoah Zero episode?
I think I'm going to watch it. That and Tokyo Ghoul's first episode.
Also, I might start Sword Art Online. I've not seen any of it yet.

10:49 PM
@Shisui it's not bad, most ppl'll like it
@Shisui Yes.

1 hour later…
11:59 PM
Can't decide if I should watch Rail Wars. On the one hand, it didn't have any real problems with the first episode, but on the other it's clearly intended as an enabler for train otaku.

This season doesn't seem promising...
