Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Kevin Hassett is leaving the White House

@TimStone until i opened up the image i thought it was a Transformer stick in mid-transform sequence

lol

I wonder which one of them was responsible for this trolling
Unless he literally read none of the text himself and just watched the video in the embedded tweet, which…maybe, who even knows now?

4:00 AM
you look at the footage people on the dock recorded, you just keep thinking of those cartoons where the ship just plows through the dock

> Some of Trump's aides reportedly suggested the tariffs in response to a spike in Australian aluminum entering the American market over the last year.
yes, lets put tariffs on all the imports

> In September 2016, Mr Anderson was banned from South Africa, the United Kingdom, and later deported from Botswana.

Anderson was denied entry to Canada on November 10 2017, and later banned from entering Jamaica last year.

He was banned from visiting the Netherlands this month.

@Kevin Hey, snakes are people too.

@Yuuki snakes just didn't settle in ireland
Also if the place I read about this news didn't make the exact same joke (and clarified with my clarification) I would have no idea what you're talking about

Hey, St. Patrick is an important allegory about the lengths that the Catholic Church will go to to hide their oppression of other groups in plain sight.

12:57 PM
I don't know the details

There's some theories that St. Patrick banishing snakes from Ireland is a metaphor/allegory for the banishment of Irish druids.

So my phone always throws up a "rate limit reached" error when I try to click on Twitter links and this current work site blocks Twitter.

yeah you get rate limited to like 100 requests per hour on mobile web but not the app or some shit
for some reason

Yes but I obviously don't go to Twitter that often.
I'm thinking it might be Google Fi related.
Maybe to do with the Google VPN.

1:08 PM
it's apparently actually 15 requests in 15 minutes
but again the app doesn't count
for some reason

I still don't use Twitter that often.
I literally only view Twitter links when they're posted here and even then I don't click on most of them.

yeah idk, the rate limit is exceptionally easy to hit for some reason, and also it applies to mobile web for some reason and not just truly third party api requests

> Previously, some North Korean officials who were reported to have been executed or purged reappeared later with new titles.

Yeah the story seems pretty unfounded at this point

3:21 PM
@TimStone Thanks for posting this, glad someone actually looked into how many steps a day is best steps.

I always feel kinda weird about these things. Okay, 10,000 steps a day is a lie but surely it's not a bad thing.

@TimStone Did you like the Stratolaunch? I know you're into planes.
@Yuuki True though it is nice for efficiency's sake to know where your efforts are leveling out.

I don't know the practicality of it as a launch system since I'm not very informed about rockets, but it's pretty cool they got that thing in the air

3:38 PM
@Yuuki @TimStone I agree, red light cameras have been shown to only increase fines without increasing safety. Double red and appropriately-timed yellows are where it's at.
@TimStone Agreed.

Visible timers is also a quality-of-life improvement for pedestrians.
For someone trying to cross an intersection diagonally, being able to see which crossing will be available next is an underappreciated bonus.

@TimStone Their $/kg to LEO wasn't going to be much better than say a Falcon 9, and max payload to LEO would initially be much lower than a Falcon 9.

🤔
On dodgeball as a tool of oppression

@Yuuki For drivers too. I love the visible timers on traffic lights in Shanghai.

@puzzlepiece87 They're in Nanjing too. And what I really like is that they're on all traffic light intersections.
No matter how minor the streets are. If there's a traffic light there, there's also a timer.

@Yuuki That's great! I wish they would come to the US also.

4:22 PM
(Also, subways are great)
Really, I just love transit in China.

@Yuuki Yes though to be fair many are quite new. We'll see how they look in fifty years.
But I love the Shenzhen subways as well.

So much of my enjoyment when I'm over the lake (since the Atlantic is "the pond" and Pacific > Atlantic) comes from the various means of non-personal car transit.
Shanghai to Nanjing takes no more than two hours via high-speed rail.

@Yuuki I enjoyed that too though I was less enthusiastic about the ticket line pressing masses and the constant ID checks just to travel via train :P

@puzzlepiece87 Constant ID checks? I only had my passport checked when entering a station and leaving the station.
Didn't need to get checked for transfers.

Oh sorry, by constant I mean whenever you buy a ticket.
You're exactly right.

4:28 PM
The ticket lines are definitely bad, especially given the general tendency to start lining up before they announce the lines are open.
I got into the habit of just sitting and waiting, tbh.
For the train lines I used, there was generally more than enough time for everyone to get through the ticket check before the train departed.
So I just sat in the seats until most people got through the line.
I suppose that's a less tenable option if you're carrying luggage as luggage spots get eaten up quickly.

Gorka is very mad because checks notes he got taken in by a Nintendo parody account that posted Mario and Luigi kissing

I can't believe he found my account

And not even yet for that reason!
@Unionhawk Honestly he has to try harder if he wants to top the resurfacing of Michael Tracy getting extremely angry with DiGiorno pizza

are you certain he wasn't mad at al giordano

5:28 PM
@Yuuki I like visible timers when I'm driving too, so I know whether to expect an imminent yellow.

Multiple Baltimore PD squad cars are apparently now evidence, unclear as to what specifically this is about

@TimStone One dirty cop is too many, so probably isn't anything good.

6:24 PM
> Even if the secular left has no intention of playing fair in the culture wars, that doesn’t erase the Christian imperatives of civility and decency.
Ah, I see the Atlantic is publishing shit today.

7:06 PM
I have been told that Apple has announced a $5000 monitor that does not include an $1000 stand?
Wait and they released a new Mac Pro that's somehow more a literally a cheese grater looking tower?

@TimStone From the specs it looks like it's an OLED, but I can't see if that is actually true. It doesn't look close to anything in the consumer range, and the professional stuff is horribly expensive anyway

Oh, certainly, it just seems like, weird to push the entry bar ever higher
It does sound like a pretty extreme monitor, more extreme than necessary for most people I imagine

I have a monitor stand for my two screens anyway, so it wouldn't bother me
a 5k USD monitor is certainly targeting professionals, that's too much even for the more extreme enthusiasts

I'm still rocking 1920x1080, I doubt I'll need 6K any time soon, heh

WQHD is a pretty good improvement over Full HD for a lot of stuff, I wouldn't miss it anymore

7:21 PM
Same

I've been looking at switching to 4K, but it would have to be 32" to be actually an improvement for me, and those are seriously expensive and still have too many flaws
The Mac Pro starting a $6k is quite high for the specs, but pretty typical Apple. A 256GB SSD at that price point is a cruel joke, though

I'm tempted to upgrade but I'm afraid 3 27" monitors side by side will be bigger than I'm expecting
Which like, I should be able to just measure that, but 🤷‍♂️
Hey remember that guy who set up the Seychelles meeting for Erik Prince, George Nadler?

this fucking timeline

@TimStone So we can shut them down now, right?
