@TimStone That sounds exhausting
I'd make it to wherever I was going and not only would I not want to stay there, I wouldn't be able to bounce back home.

I just feel like almost immediately someone will fall into traffic
Someone threw a drink at Matt Gaetz, lol
Of course he's screaming "Assault!"

1:38 AM
@TimStone I am fairly certain (terrain regularities excluded) walking is faster than pogo-stick'ing (unless maybe you're a professional pogo stick racer? is that a thing?)

I would think so too!
They do mention that it could have a fitness angle but like, I can't see this actually catching on and I also feel like that should be obvious to everyone involved 🤔

user15026
Also like way to have MORE random "transportation" crap just abandoned willy-nilly all over a city

2:03 AM
Yeah at least powered scooters make nonzero amounts of sense

3 hours later…
5:04 AM
@TimStone milkshake?

5:19 AM
@Memor-X yep lol
@TimStone who got to drink it tho

@GodEmperorDune maybe it was thrown at another politician
ginning maybe?

4 hours later…
Ave
9:38 AM
gin the intolerant doesn't have the same ring as lactose the intolerant

@Ave if it was gin and tonic it could have been "a tonic to cure intolerance"

Uhhh @Yuuki so red light cameras are now banned in Texas?
Because your legislature and governor are insane, I guess?

I think they've been banned in Houston for awhile.
@TimStone IIRC, studies have shown that red light cameras aren't effective at all.

Really?

In fact, I think the science says that red light cameras actually increase the incidence of accidents.

Hmm, I'll accept it then

> Evidence clearly shows that camera programs are effective at decreasing the number of vehicles running red lights. In one study in Virginia, red light cameras reduced the number of total drivers running red lights by 67 percent.

However, cameras can have contradictory effects on traffic safety. Some drivers who would have otherwise continued to proceed through the intersection when the light is yellow or red will now attempt to stop. That means that the number of accidents caused by vehicles not stopping at a red light will likely decrease.
tl;dr cross-street collisions are likely to decrease whereas rear-end collisions are likely to increase
Cross-street collisions are typically more severe and cause more fatal injuries though.

3:24 PM
Right, and also presumably has a (theoretical) safety impact for pedestrian crossing too?
So that seems not totally useless, people just drive like shit to begin with

This is America, we don't care about pedestrians so they're not considered as part of studies.

Newsom is signaling opposition to tightening California's vaccination rules because…he's pro-measles, I guess?

1 hour later…
The key takeaway there should be, but won't be, that you can sell pretty much anything with the right messaging, so better things aren't possible is actually dumb as hell
Not exactly a solid endorsement of the electorate but
Okay I know that we're pretty willing to look the other way when it comes to war crimes but it really seems like a weird thing for someone, especially an indicted politician, to lean into

2 hours later…
6:26 PM
An interesting development in the social media age
I wonder how that will turn out

7:25 PM
@Yuuki not to mention that after i've gotten the camera flash of a red light camera, i am worried about the ticket and thus distracted the rest of my drive
@TimStone duncan hunter is definitely being set up for a season long character arc as a main villain

China has a visible timer on every intersection and I think that's a really good idea.

Yeah, I think they did actually show those have an impact

RE: red light cameras my primary concern is people running e.g. no turn on red, which is dangerous for pedestrians
Not sure how common t-bones are in general

@Yuuki this is a great idea, but i'd start with making the red or green visible from further away, my city still has lights where you cannot see what color it is until you are 20 feet from the intersection

7:29 PM
(especially compared to t-bones arising due to left turn on green)

@GodEmperorDune There's this one intersection I go through regularly where the lights aren't visible until you're actually through the intersection.

You literally have to be under the lights to see what color they are.

i dunno who invented and/or greenlit (hehehe) that light style

7:32 PM
insert joke about promoted tweet pricing models

3 hours later…
10:09 PM
Google Cloud has apparently been down for a non-trivial amount of time this evening, oh dear

@murgatroid99 Oh, that's probably why I can't get weather
or turn off my lamp
I'll need to turn off my lamp with my hands, like some sort of peasant!
@Stormblessed? Looks like someone is a Sanderson fan.

10:25 PM
hi
Yup
My favorite author :-)

Same

Hmm I think it might even be messing with my Fi service
Kim Yong Chol is apparently not in a labor camp either, drawing into question that whole story

11:09 PM
> but KCNA reports today he attended a concert with Kim Jong Un. One of first times he’s back in state media.
*googles KCNA*
> The Korean Central News Agency is the state news agency of North Korea.
yeh. forgive me if i am not skeptical about the state controlled media defending their supreme leader about doing something horrible

Well they probably wouldn't talk about him if they had intended to make a point of the group (by way of execution/imprisonment)

11:35 PM
@Stormblessed Hobb is mine, but Sanderson is pretty high up there.

@Wipqozn robin hobb?

@Stormblessed Yup

11:51 PM
There was a tornado in Ottawa, apparently?
