🤷🏼‍♂️

@Yuuki FYI US Marshals run Witsec.
@Ash Wow, that safety manager has blown not one but two whistles. Good person it seems!

Justice news: Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave the Justice Department in mid-March —@LauraAJarrett reports

54/55

> An 11-year-old boy in Florida was arrested after he refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in class and allegedly refused to listen to orders from school officials and a resource officer.
> After the boy told his substitute teacher that the American flag is racist, she asked him, according to her report to the school, “Why if it was so bad here, he did not go to another place to live.” The boy reportedly responded, “They brought me here.” The teacher then said, “Well, you can always go back, because I came here from Cuba, and the day I feel I’m not welcome here anymore, I would find another place to live.”
> A school spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle that students aren’t required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in class, but the substitute teacher “was not aware of this” and that the teacher “will no longer be allowed to substitute at any of our schools.”
and yet the kids is still suspended and charged...
> The student was taken to a juvenile detention center and charged with disrupting a school function and resisting arrest without violence. He was also suspended for three days.
There's really not words to describe just how fucked up this entire thing is

2:34 AM
@Wipqozn yeh
aside from "that's fucked"

I've got a post queued up for when this 55th alert comes in

All schools in #Harrison Co closed Tue 2/19/19 due to work stoppage
Is that just a single county? I don't get how america works (spoiler: it doesn't)

@Kevin yes
The official and presumably final is all except Putnam County

Ah

@Ave Let's hope the democrats don't make the same mistake they did in 2016
So we might finally be able to end eternal 2016

2:04 PM
you best start believing in the 2016 primary,,, you're in one
(this primary is going to be excruciating)
(like vastly dumber than last time)
@Unionhawk Update: busses are not running in Putnam County.

schools are open on paper in that county, but there is a work stoppage by bus drivers

2:19 PM
@Unionhawk School busses are still a weird concept for me

I know that's not really "news" but I felt compelled to share, lol

@Kevin Even in Europe, there have to be some students that get a school bus to school.

That is super awful

@MBraedley Probably! Probably even some in the netherlands, but that's not a school bus
That's just regular public transport
googles Yeah they're just regular public transport that anyone can use
Also I see your sneaky edits being sneaky @MBraedley
Near as I can tell anyway, basically the country is small enough that people just take the bike

So where I grew up, school buses were how rural community students got to the high school in town. The town isn't big enough to have public transit, but some students were coming as far as ~20km away.

2:27 PM
Friend of mine lived 10 kilometers away from the school

@Kevin In most (all?) of Canada, that student would take a bus all through high school.

Bikes easier, it's only half an hour =p

Yes, but that same bus is already coming from 20km out, and it's not much for them to stop and pick up more students along the way.

If it were 10 km further away there'd be a different school much closer

yeah but that's because the netherlands is only 30km across

2:31 PM
Well yes
I did mention that

2:52 PM
@puzzlepiece87 You see, now that you mentioned this, I remember. Mainly because I watched Eureka, where the main character used to be a US Marshal.

@TimStone what

Look it's everyone's favourite players!
Flynn, Barrack, McFarlane
In case you haven't heard of McFarlane recently,
> Robert “Bud” McFarlane, 81, who resigned as President Ronald Reagan’s national security advisor during the Iran-Contra scandal and later pleaded guilty in 1988 to charges involving the withholding of information from Congress, has been a global consultant in the security and energy sectors in recent years

I think @Unionhawk said it best:
18 hours ago, by Unionhawk
this country is dumb

4:11 PM
@TimStone So it's Iran-Contra but this time it's nukes instead of guns and the Saudis instead of Iranian rebels.

Ostensibly nuclear power technology but if the whole concern about Iran is that their enrichment process could be used for nuclear weapons then yeah

@Unionhawk Ah, this is the Donkey Kong/AOC group, they sounded familiar.

4:27 PM
@TimStone (not least because this should require Congressional approval which they're trying to sidestep)

9:24 PM
@Unionhawk Great news.
Not related to anything:
> One time, my wife (then girlfriend) and I were at her brother’s house for a game night of Cranium.

I don’t remember the exact details (probably because I was in hysterics) but someone asked my wife what caused the US to enter WWII.

Now, my wife is not very history savvy. Probably her least knowledgeable subject. I, on the other hand, loooove history.

Point is, she didn’t know the answer. Her guess was the Boston Tea Party.

I lost my shit, and so did she and everyone else. To this day, if my wife doesn’t know the answer to something, I tell her to write down “Boston tea party.”
From the very enjoyable Reddit thread What's the silliest thing your significant other has done

9:46 PM
@puzzlepiece87 Technically speaking, she's not wrong.
If the grievances leading up to the Boston Tea Party didn't happen, would there be a US to enter WWII?
🤔

@Yuuki You want tapshead.gif here lol

@puzzlepiece87 Can't put a tapshead.gif if it's not an emoji.
🤔

10:06 PM
@BradC yeh but people are dumb so you have to tell them....and also remind them that lying is also a crime so don't do that either
@TimStone and when this doesn't work, they'll do a Paul + PewDiePie colab
which Paul? i don't know, which ever one is the most annoying who hasn't been punched in the head enough yet

10:21 PM
@TimStone first the caching site, now this. How many memes are you responsible for?

I mean I haven't reached @Ave levels of memeing or anything but I do alright, I do alright
I actually forget what exactly that was in response to because it seems the person's account was suspended

@Yuuki sure you can

I think they were calling him an ambulance chaser or something?

Steve King asks for Congressional Record correction over white supremacist quote http://hill.cm/o6G9G4s
> King claimed that the quote should instead read as the following, with a hyphen instead before he mentions "Western civilization": "White nationalist, white supremacist — Western civilization, how did that language become offensive? Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?”
ummmm, is that any different?
> "According to my actual words, the question 'how did that language become offensive?' clearly referred only to the term 'Western Civilization.'
yeh, no
personally i read it as a question to Western civilization why language like White nationalist and white supremacist is offensive

11:32 PM
I mean at best he's saying white nationalism and white supremacy are components of Western civilization which…true, but not in a way that's useful to his point 🤔
