7:03 PM
I thought Republicans hated government. If they can keep it closed and not fix DACA, wouldn't they be happy?

Plus no one will care in November

7:18 PM
I mean, in a real sense or in the sense that it probably doesn't matter because the choice is a party that pretends to care about immigrants (or believes that trusting Mitch counts as caring), or a party that does not care at all and in fact hates them
We will see where the negotiations with Mitch go now, but I'm not confident as long as Steven Miller is within a hundred meters of the white house

@Unionhawk No, it doesn't matter in an even more depressing way than that - voters tend to forget. They resemble Trump in a "who talked to them last" way - whatever the news cycle is right before the election.
(As you already know, but just clarifying)

7:34 PM
And I think that's why it's important to have more tools in our belt other than just electoral action, mass action and direct action are both important to getting things done because these idiots aren't going to do it for us
I mean heck the negotiating position has moved all the way from full amnesty to where we're at in the span of like five years

Oh shit. @SheriffClarkeTC has also been hacked.

lol

His Twitter handle also doesn't have TC so I don't know what that's about but otherwise checks out
JUST IN: In major win for Democrats, Pennsylvania court throws out congressional boundaries http://wapo.st/2Dy8JGr

@SheriffClarkeTC “We hacked the sheriff, But we did not hack the deputy.”

lol

7:48 PM
@TimStone (it's not clear what that's about but that is a direct reply with that handle so?)

Yeah I dunno if they changed it?

Possibly, then twitter might have changed it back on a lockdown maybe, though like, it's clearly still not in his control because that post still exists so

Seems kind of odd it's just this particular group of people, like they either all have the same ghostwriter agitators with their passwords or just have dumb passwords

I would think that "report tweet->account is likely compromised->locked by twitter" would also delete the post in question

wait is this "wear an overly fancy hat but make fun of other people's hats" and "kill people in my jails" ex sheriff clarke?

7:51 PM
yeah
They also got Eric Bolling and Greta the other day
Jan 17 at 0:54, by Unionhawk
Looks like Eric Bolling and Greta Van Sustren both got hacked by...Turkish hackers?

And Bret Hume I think

Probably
Apparently Bolling's dms has Don Jr muted which lol

i dunno why hackers would snag the account and post on it instead of hang onto it long term and farm the info?

Gotta show the strength of turkey

Also I would like to state for the record I, Tim, had nothing to do with this

7:53 PM
@TimStone sure thing, ayyildiz

But weird right that they'd go after the people that would definitely give up Gulen because he's foreign

I believe that is confirmation that this was in fact a CIA false flag psyop
why are you hiding the memo

also why do famous people with verified accounts not have 2FA enabled?
oh they're not verified yet

yeah wait how is greta not verified
she has an entire app now and everything

She is now
So is Bolling
I dunno what was going on previously
Also TBF Twitter only just introduced non-horrible 2FA so not like they really put effort into making this hard

7:56 PM
true

Well, we're getting a better sense of why the Kobach commission has been so resistant to releasing documents. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/trump-election-fraud-commission-bought-texas-election-data-flagging-hispanic-voters/2018/01/22/2791934a-fd55-11e7-ad8c-ecbb62019393_story.html

also i think i need to set that up

Ah, yes, the racism

@Unionhawk Agreed.

wait they BOUGHT data from the states?
wat
how is that a thing that states are allowed to sell?

7:58 PM
lol
Listen, what good is having data if you can't MAKE MONEY ON IT
jeez

> The commission paid Texas officials about $3,500 on Sept. 22 for 49.6 million records that were to include lists of voters who were active, those with canceled registrations, and those with an outdated or incorrect address on file; and a list of those who voted in the past six general elections from 2006 through 2016. The flags for the Hispanic surnames would be in the lists.

What are we communists

@GodEmperorDune Because how else would political campaigns cold-call you?

you don't even have to be a billionaire to buy this data, it's only $3500 for the texas voter records

(lol this is not a good reason but it is the reason)

7:59 PM
holy shit

Yuuuuuuuup

so anyone with money can set up a "national" campaign and buy all the voter records, entirely legally?

This is why some people don't register to vote, like victims of spousal abuse et al

aasdfl;kj

what the fuck

8:00 PM
Automatic registration is Good but also Bad unless voter privacy laws are put into place to supplement it

👨🏼: calm down.

i mean to be fair to the staffer, if i were buying data, i would check any boxes that included more data for the same price

One might wonder why that was, in fact, a checkbox to begin with, lol

@TimStone there is apparently a texas law that says you need to send spanish/english combo materials if the voter has a latino-ish name, it seems

That's not bad, though I wonder what the savings really are versus just sending that for everyone

8:03 PM
@Unionhawk I block every Fox News-parroting random I come across on Facebook and yes 99% of my blocklist is white.

@TimStone california (or at least los angeles county) is required to have voting materials available in a bunch of languages (english, spanish, korean, tagalog, others i am forgetting)

Vermont has just legalized marijuana

nice

i think it's a thing where on your voter application you say "i want election materials in X language"
rather than guess by the name

Yeah that's a way better solution lol

8:05 PM
and materials in any language have a page in the pamphlet that says "go here if you want another language" written in all the supported languages

But it seems to have only legalized possession up to an ounce, and self-growing? Leaving the nature of a market to be determined separately by the legislature

That's still pretty good
Legalization and decriminalization of possession is good as heck

lawmakers need to start decriminalizing up 4.2 oz if they want to go viral

Yeah unless you're marginally over the ounce limit and get pegged with intent to distribute

right

8:08 PM
It's also unclear what if anything happens to those with possession charges currently

Yep, that's also a key part of a whole solution

because then the news has to explain the relevance of "420" in that awkward local news way
@Unionhawk yep, so important

@GodEmperorDune lol

@GodEmperorDune wine moms can do weed yoga AFTER pardoning low level offenders

@Unionhawk yeah i RTed that
it should be pardoned and/or expunged
alternatively, having been arrested for weed should be a resume booster for those getting permits to be involved in the cannabis industry

8:12 PM
por que no los dos

@Unionhawk if its expunged you can't find it on the background check anymore

.@SenTedCruz : "I have consistently opposed shut downs"
I think this is one of those jokes you need the Zodiac Killer decoder ring to get

didn't he read Dr. Seuss on the floor in 2013

He tried to cause a shutdown in 2015 over Planned Parenthood funding too

@TimStone HUE

8:15 PM
if I remember correctly

@TimStone yep

putting the hue in ted cruz for human president dot com

Steve King accuses Trump of supporting "limited amnesty" for undocumented immigrants http://hill.cm/0YxGCgt
wipes tear Beautiful

Yeah, he should support full amnesty

lol

8:16 PM
Come on Donald, do better

with anyone else i'd say this is movement in the right direction, but all that needs to happen is for trump to watch tucker carlson call him a cuck and he will reach into the hat for a new random position

i hope everyone who is attending davos caches dysentery

I mean

@TimStone recht
would the secret service allow trump to drink raw water?

He's a germophobe
So trump wouldn't let trump drink raw water
You see that? The White House just announced that Trump would not sign the bi-partisan Graham-Durbin bill on DACA. They literally waited until the Democrats caved then announced they wouldn't do the deal. Mitch McConnell was never to be believed. SHAMEFUL.
HMM
MAKES U THINK

8:29 PM
@Unionhawk dumb of them to do so when the spending bill runs out in a month
and then fake promises won't do much

but don't worry we got SOMETHING it's fine
it's a marathon not a sprint there's no real impending threat to our communities

i mean we got CHIP, which shouldn't have been defunded in the first place

I mean it just expired

It seems pretty clear that they were never going to get anything. Having the government shut down isn't really a good outcome

It should have been reauthorized way before expiring but you know

8:36 PM
but in these trump times, maybe status quo as of the end of the obama admin is best case for dems
it's not like they were shutting down the govt until they got medicare for all

...
You saw nothing

saw what?

Bank of America will charge low-income customers $12 per month for their checking accounts unless they have a $1,500 account balance or monthly direct deposits of at least $250: https://www.wsj.com/articles/bankofamerica-no-more-free-checking-for-customers-with-low-balances-1516625715?mod=e2tw
love to make it harder for the poor to get ahead

Well I mean you have to think about the overhead
They don't make a whole lot of money on low balance accounts
SO it makes sense

8:48 PM
@Unionhawk it's all aggregated into average daily balance
where they get interest on it in a big way

Yeah, but they make a greater percentage of interest from high income clients

that's not how interest works

So clearly this is just a smart business move, maybe people should invest in the stock market if they want to have more money
It's going way up and this trend will continue forever

i mean this is what happens when the CFPB gets gutted

god

8:50 PM
everyone's favorite fees return
BUT, if this drives people to community banking instead i am 100% supportive of that

hell yeah

@GodEmperorDune I mean, if you're not earning $250/month at a regular job, you've got more serious problems than a $12 service fee. And even living paycheque to paycheque, one would hope that they could save at least $1500 in case of emergency.

50% of people at my former government agency took emergency loans immediately on shutdown before
Those are people with white collar government jobs

I mean if you're earning less than $250 now you have an additional problem of a $12 service fee, which is at least 5% of your income

@MBraedley So unfortunately this is fantasy

user15026
8:57 PM
@puzzlepiece87 I'm not, my partner is, but yes. :) So similar but different enough. And yeah, considering there's a 14-16 week wait currently for background checks....it will be what it will be.

@MBraedley the problem is that a LOT of things in the US require some sort of bank account, and this is another way to cut off poor people from all of those things

user15026
This whole thing is teaching me patience

user15026
@GodEmperorDune Here, too.

@MBraedley Agreed with the others, this is just another way that being poor is very expensive.

user15026
@MBraedley "one would hope they could save at least $1500 in case of emergency" - you know what living paycheck to paycheck actually means, right?

8:58 PM
as an example, buying things online requires abank card of some type

I'm not saying that they're doing right by their customers (they're not)

if you don't have a bank card (because you don't have a bank account), you can buy a prepaid card with cash and pay the fees associated with it
or you just can't buy the thing online
so you need to spend time out of your schedule to go to the brick and mortar store
so basically things are kept comfortable if you are already financially comfortable and made challenging if you are already struggling finacially

@GodEmperorDune So you think that people who can't afford this bank account can afford internet at home? More likely, the would need to use public wifi anyways.

@MBraedley could be using internet at a library or that a bunch of families all go in together to get one subscription for the block

@GodEmperorDune which still requires going out, which is my point.

9:02 PM
being poor doesn't somehow give a person a whole lot of free time

(the one subscription for a block doesn't work)

user15026
@MBraedley it's gotten to the point where....a lot of people find a way, even if it is like the cheap 19.99 6/0.8 Bell DSL legacy plan

user15026
(Or whatever that costs now, I forget)

user15026
Because everything is online

and going out to do one thing takes less time then going out to do a ton of things

user15026
9:04 PM
Hell, if you have schoolkids...it's damn near a requirement, as most of their school stuff is online

Libraries are cool and good incidentally

user15026
(Working for an ISP has made me realize just how much the internet is now pretty much an essential service)

user15026
@Unionhawk Fuck yeah :) I love libraries as a thing.

user15026
Like they're just so magical and useful and full of good stuff

also consider that the person is most likely working at one or multiple jobs to make money to support themselves and their family, so they also don't necessarily have the time to go around to run errands during business hours

9:06 PM
But let's get some perspective on this. Anyone that has any sort of regular job should be earning well over $250 a month, and most should have to option for direct deposit. That's normal these days.

@Ash You did see our victory right? :D

user15026
@MBraedley In Canada, maybe, if they're managing full time

user15026
@Unionhawk Yes I did and I love it

$250 monthly on federal minimum is 34 hours a month
for a comparison point
8 hours a week approximately on an average 4 week month

user15026
And also, no, not everything will do direct deposit.

9:07 PM
@Unionhawk pre or post tax?

user15026
Like it's not a huge amount of money, no, but it's still a barrier

i don't think you have income tax at the poverty line, but you have ssi and such

@GodEmperorDune Pre, though at that point it's pretty close

user15026
And a damn unnecessary one

Since you're only paying SALT, Medicare and Social Security

9:09 PM
@Ash No, I know that not everything is. But I'd be surprised if fast food restaurants and major retailers don't offer it if the employee asks.

@MBraedley i dunno the laws about such things, but direct deposit is NOT free for the employer

user15026
Nope, it's not

and it's not mandatory

user15026
I've run into jobs where you'd think it should be a thing and it isn't

@Ash We're continuing our campaign still which is cool (our new demands essentially boil down to everyone on the board needs to resign and be replaced in a manner that makes them more accountable to us, and a couple other things)

9:11 PM
@GodEmperorDune But for a company like Walmart, it is a cost saver.

Unionize library employees, that sort of thing

user15026
@Unionhawk Neat! Keep me updated - library stuff is awesome and I love hearing about it

@MBraedley than paper checks? probably. but they could turn around and charge the employee a fee for it
just like they charge employees for uniforms and such

user15026
(Our local library just got a pile of funding for technology stuff! ITS SO EXCITING. Like VR and all sorts of other awesome and useful things)

@GodEmperorDune I'm not sure that would be legal.

9:13 PM
@MBraedley it's definitely not ethical, but i think it's legal in the US
hey hey, se to the rescue

Q: Can My Employer Charge Me a Fee to Get a Mailed Check Instead of Direct Deposit?

imallettI have preferred to receive paper checks instead of direct deposit, as I find it easier to keep track of. However, my employer has now announced that there will be a (quite large) fee associated with not doing direct deposit. I can understand maybe covering postage and the cost of an envelope, ...

so varies from state to state
in a state that doesn't ban it, the response is probably "go find a new job if you don't like the fees"

@Ash @Unionhawk I am also pro-library

user15026
@puzzlepiece87 Libraries are my jam.

user15026
I am insanely passionate about them as a thing that everyone needs and should know about and access because they're more than just books and people who shush you.

The Cincinnati library system has a dang maker space

@GodEmperorDune But that also seems to prove that, in Utah at least, direct deposit is the norm for regular employment, which is something like 90% of the workforce that are bonafide employees.

9:20 PM
I believe that's where most of our buttons have been made
meanwhile in the technocracy
I’m in Seattle and there is currently a line to shop at the grocery store whose entire premise is that you won’t have to wait in line.

@MBraedley i'm saying if that is the norm for most, then why have this $12 fee at all? it's not going to amount to much for the bank but it is going to hit some poor people very hard
@Unionhawk this is the one that doesn't take food stamps, right?

yeah
that too
lol

@Unionhawk Beta testing for free

What if a grocery store but gentrified somehow
wait shit that's already whole foods isn't it

@GodEmperorDune It's not going to amount to much for the bank the bank's shareholders

9:24 PM
@GodEmperorDune I still can't understand that checks are still a thing in the US

@MadScientist i think its mostly that it powers a debit card
as opposed to a credit card

@GodEmperorDune Without knowing how many people are impacted by this, my gut feeling is that you're making too much of this, which was my point to begin with.

not that people are necessarily writing checks

huh, why would you need checks to use a debit card?

@MadScientist you need the checking account for the debit card, not the paper checks
@MBraedley the banks are doing this because they can make a not-insignificant amount of money from this (otherwise it wouldn't be worth the cost of implementing the changes to them)
that money is by definition coming off the backs of poor people that are being pushed out of the banking system and into alternate systems that cost them more money or time than the regular system that is designed for people lucky enough to not be poor

9:29 PM
Oh cool
Cornyn, Grassley, Perdue, Cotton, Lankford, and Tillis are meeting with the president

user15026
@Unionhawk We're getting close to that here :D

@Unionhawk "sir, we don't think you're being mean enough to the browns"

user15026
@Ryan You'll likely want our main room for that question :)

@Ash ah didnt realize the first room on your list wasnt the main room. Thanks

Yeah it lists most recently active first

9:32 PM
@Ryan First room on the list is the room that had the most recent message.

If you want to complain about politics though, or overthrow the government, you're in the right place

@MadScientist Where government is any government.

@MadScientist (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

we don't have a government to overthrow right now, I'll have to wait a bit for that

or time travel

9:34 PM
overthrow them all
ALL OF THEM

@MadScientist We have plenty, come overthrow one over here.

Or I could move to the US, where the government occasionally just overthrows itself for a few days

@Unionhawk Do you know how much work it is to overthrow all of the Belgian governments? There are too many of them.

9:54 PM
BREAKING: Trump imposes 30 percent tariff on solar panel imports
Love too get the best deals by artificially inflating the price

@TimStone Because fuck climate change, right? What's next? Starting to officially use Bitcoin as US currency?

@TimStone because global warming is fake news

10:24 PM
@TimStone This is particularly stupid since most of his base likes solar panels
I suppose it's for the "bring coal back" meme

tfw it's pretty appropriate to describe a presidential policy as a meme

1 hour later…
11:45 PM
Man, Kanye West should have did a relief fund for Puerto Rico with Mike Myers

@TimStone have we checked if trump's company uses any sort of renewable power?
@Wipqozn he was busy with chicago
