More generally, water has a potential for a tragedy of the commons situation. If people don't pay for water, and your tax costs are only distantly related to your water usage, then people are more likely to waste it for all sorts of things, because it doesn't really impact them negatively.
Also, if you read down that thread, someone says that it's talking about how water pricing doesn't cover the costs of maintaining and upgrading infrastructure.
In other words, as I interpret that, the problem is that water prices don't correspond as well as they could to the true overall cost of delivering that water
Though, one simple solution would be to have those maintenance and upgrade costs be a part of the municipal budget, because they are less dependent on the specific amount of water being used.
Yeah tying the improvement budget to one's water bill feels inherently regressive in some small way, whereas tying it to a property tax levy or otherwise is decent, some price for usage prevents people from just watering their lawn all day all July
The first sentence is still some weird clickbait because it's neither a problem nor does it introduce the promoted talk
> McConnell: The democrats caused the shutdown! Now the military won't be paid! The democrats don't support our troops! McCaskill: I propose pay protection for the military during the shutdown. McConnell: I object.
Yikes. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL): “I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft dodger.” She labels the president “Cadet Bone Spurs.”
@TimStone but trump says his approval is the best of all presidents. This must be fake news.

Realized that government shutdown could affect my immigration application depending on when I send it because part of the requirements is a background check at some point so they better figure their shit out soon
Yeah, usually I would say don't worry about it but since President McDeals is just aimlessly flailing I'm really not sure how long things will be shutdown :/
@TimStone this is what terrifies me. Like I am scared to send my stuff because what if this fucks it up and I would love to believe that CIC would understand bit I am scared they won't and oh hey look at that, panic attack time
Trump mostly reacts to media reports, it'll be interesting how this develops in this case. And he'll probably get seriously frustrated if he can't leave for Mar a Lago next weekend
What makes me mad about this shit is they're all like "we got weeks to do this shit" meanwhile CHIP is already out of money in several states which they should have done a fucking month ago, and people are already losing deferred action status now
