I don't think they're that clever. I suspect that in these meetings the Republicans are all "Oh yeah we totally understand" and like they work with these guys and they don't seem so bad and then Oh Wow They Just Shoved Some Children Into That Meatgrinder

A decent thread about what the dems are doing

So, this shutdown deal that's being talked up. It's certainly not the outcome I would most hope for, but it may be (or lead to) one of the best plausible outcomes. What matters far more than what happens today is what happens between now and February 8th.
