@Clay07g You wrote; "I'm also a little curious as to how the phrase "not the US" reminds you of a more racist history, since it's pretty similar to most European countries in that regard". I'm not sure whether your naïveté is feigned or if you're really suffering from a rather convenient amnesia of the US's unique history of peculiar institutions and the fact that a section of the populace actually celebrate the confederacy. This is why people like me cannot imagine living in US — u_r_grounded 1 min ago

@hvd I appreciate the understanding. In that case, can we mutually remove these? — Pheo 1 min ago

I think "What's wrong with apologizing?" is a misleading question. I think pre-apologising for crap you haven't seen yet is unnecessary and obnoxious. I think if you've come to the point where you think that sort of thing is necessary, I little time off would probably do you some good. — Jon Ericson ♦ 43 secs ago

@Clay07g We don't have statutes celebrating the institution of slavery in Europe, we don't have slave plantations in Europe and we don't have remnants of slave markets in Europe. It is an effrontery to try to compare race relations in Europe (despite all its shortcomings), with the diabolical race relations in the US. This is why I stated that thankfully, I don't live in the US. — u_r_grounded 43 secs ago

@Lord - It doesn't matter whether "not in the US" adds to the question, it's not both superfluous and insulting. "Thankfully," at least without further context, might be. I think adding some context, like swapping the sentence for "Thankfully, I live in a country without the same degree of institutionalized racism as the US....(but)" (if it's OK with the poster, of course) might actually make the question better, and lessen any potential offense, since it might make it clear what part of the US is being criticized (objective history and current climate), and not the US as a whole. — Obie 2.0 just now

You say that your coworkers are concerned about your eating habits, yet you also say that a coworker brought in a vegetable dip to accommodate your light appetite. So it sounds like at least some your coworkers try to support you (even if they don't always do what you wanted) — Johnny 1 min ago

One thing is that it probably wasn't a real apology. Do you feel culpable for the hurtful and inaccurate things that other people on this site might say? Do you think that you didn't do enough to head them off, or made some kind? If so, then an apology might be in order, but 1) in chat, not an an answer, and , I think, 2) for what you think you did wrong. Or are you irritated with them and want to criticize them? I can't see deleted comments, but I bet some of them would justify some irritation. But putting it in the answer is not being nice, and it's a bit unnecessary? — Obie 2.0 1 min ago

Or is it just general commiseration, like "Sorry you broke your arm," where you don't feel responsible? That's still not an apology, even if it has the word "sorry" in it, and again, it still seems to take shots at other users even if that wasn't your intent. — Obie 2.0 54 secs ago

Would you be less upset if the whole post was edited to change "white" to "people who don't experience institutional racism from the white establishment"? Because you even admit that the OPs comments on white experiences are accurate, so I'm confused what you are upset or alienated by. — Azor Ahai 53 secs ago
