@M.A.R. <^)>>><
@M.A.R. But six-legged things help the ecosystem.
@M.A.R. It is a bit fascinating because if we go for even more legs, namely 10, then it suddenly starts to be cute again :D look at decapods like shrimp, crayfish, etc. - definitely more cute than "normal" 6-legged bugs and 8-legged spiders!
However, I am simplifying because there is another thing going on, and that is aquatic animals tend to be less disgusting and gross than land animals, I guess we didn't have the evolutionary pressure to develop repulsion to shrimps, etc. because of our disjoint habitats. Nonetheless it's interesting, because shrimp are really similar to insects at the first sight, but much much less disgusting!

@lila ...I dunno if I'd consider a coconut crab 'cute'.
And yeah, crustaceans are basically just aquatic bugs.
Whoever decided to market lobsters as a delicacy was a genius. Before that fishermen would just toss them out.
Though, can we take a moment to appreciate the shrimp that can punch with the force of a bullet?

@Sarov addiction is a serious problem. It only takes a few moments to set your life free of worldly belongings
I mean, yeah, death by asphyxiation would set your life free of worldly belongings. And worldly everything, really.
Brought to you by the facultative anaerobe society
@lila but centipedes, yeeesh
It's never the number of legs TBH, except maybe eight. I think other important attributes are fast-moving small things and the stiffness of the legs (octopi vs. arthropods)
But eight legs, crabs can look creepy too
@Sarov that's one of those game characters that leaked out of the video game into real life

hi
@Sarov Oh you are right, I searched for photos and it's gross! :o But it is terrestrial and not aquatic, so example invalidated, hahahaha! (I'm kidding of course :D)
@M.A.R. Haha of course, anything resembling a worm gets huge bonus for being gross and you are right it's not really about number of legs, snakes have 0 or 1 legs depending on how do you look at it, and many people are grossed out or scared of them (I think they are beautiful and respectable animals, though).
Some people think caterpillars are cute, and they're basically hairy worms.
15:24
Depends on the kind of caterpillar...
There's a kind of moth here that has caterpillars with hairs that cause severe itching. Those are never cute, no matter how fun it is to watch them walk in a circle XD
I remember how I was a child and being on the playground with a friend, I noticed a cute catterpillar and immediately told him to look how beautiful it was, he didn't think too long before squishing it with the shoe, I cried "what in the world did you do, this thing was a living animal and had its right to live, too!" and he said "okay, but this thing was unlucky" :/

@lila XD
'Bad luck'? Like, a superstition?
15:39
Haha I don't know how to exactly translate
it (the conversation was not in English), but it was the same kind of "back luck" as in this joke: HR employee takes a stash of CVs of candidates and brings it to the boss, tell the boss "here are 70 most qualified candidates that we carefully choosen", then the boss takes roughly half of the CVs and throws them right to the garbage bin, the employee asks "why would you do that, these were all highest-quality applications!" and the boss responds "okay, but we don't need those who have a bad luck" :D
...Pfft. I see.
