Some colleague made it obvious I left my job early yesterday

So now you're making it obvious you started early too?

:> yea i did
today, not yesterday tho
but ill also leave a late message today prly

That's also a good idea :)

TGIF!

TGIF

7:22 AM
And i'm fixing the bots as we speak :/

7:33 AM
@ips cat?

yes
it worked

Ael
8:04 AM
@ArthurHv That sounds really not nice of them if they did it on purpose :/
@CaldeiraG I understand why they do it, but also, I find it rude.
@ArthurHv I'm glad it changes nothing for me. I was getting worried I would have to start printing "certificate" (I don't have a printer and needing a certificate to go outside do stress me a lot)

8:22 AM
@Ael :/

@Ael oh yeah, we joined the curfew club too yesterday.

Ael
@avazula Well then, welcome to the club...

hello home, my old friend

A J
8:46 AM
@CaldeiraG 55366 new and 74000 recovered

Ael
@ips cat please

@Ael I don't think it was intentional, no

Ael
@ArthurHv That's a relief. I wouldn't want to work somewhere were coworkers would do that on purpose

me neither
nor with the passive aggressive jokes like "Did you took your afternoon off ?" when leaving at 5

Ael
8:51 AM
@ArthurHv Oh yeah, that would be definitively awful
(especially if the people saying it start at 10am in the morning. Like "did you took your morning off?")
.
And to continue with the "virus good news" (ahah, no), I learn that we won't have any Christmas Market in my hometown this year (which is the best thing I like to do on December: going to the Christmas Market with my family, enjoying the lighting, buying some hot wine/hot soup and just enjoying the moment). So no Christmas Market makes me feel like half of Christmas was canceled and now I'm afraid the other half will be canceled too (the other half being: going to see your family)

9:07 AM
@AJ :/

@Ael :( That means no soap, right?

@Ael :( well atleast the only people of my family that celebrates christmas are my parents and sisters
there's a few exceptions like cousins

Over here I don't like my family so I couldn't care less about scratching that part of Christmas, especially as I know avoiding all those people keeps me safer.

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Yeah, probably :'( At the minimum, it means "no sniffing soap during the Christmas Market" which is very sad on itself :(
@Tinkeringbell Here, there are only 5 people that I really don't mind not seeing on Christmas. But I still have: my 2 parents, my 2 sisters, my 2 grandparents, my aunt, my cousin and both her daughters that I really want to see on Christmas. (and then there are some few others that I want to see because I know my family would be very sad if they aren't here but I personally don't care too much about not seeing them)
But I think as long as I can see my 2 parents + 2 sisters + 2 grandparents, I will be fine (I don't want my grandparents to spend Christmas alone, that's why I definitively want to see them)

@Ael Yeah, I can imagine lockdowns will be hard then. It does sound like a reasonable amount of people to visit over perhaps a 2-week period instead :D

Ael
9:20 AM
@Tinkeringbell On a "one Christmas week", I usually see 21 differents people in my family (excluding myself but counting my parents and sisters) ^^ It's 7 on my mother side, 10 on my father side and then "the 5 of us" (me, my sisters and my parents)

Here it's usually having grandparents over on the 26th, and as a kid I was dragged along to an aunt and uncle to celebrate a birthday. That last part I've managed to get out of for the past years.

Then it's new year's eve, where I'm expected to hang out with every neighbour in the neighborhood (around 20 people), shaking their hands and kissing them.

Then on new years day, in the morning we would gather in one place with Dad's entire side of the family (2 couples of aunts and uncles, grandparents, 3 cousins and their SOs + their brats), and then in the afternoon we'd gather in one place w

hi

Luckily I'm still working up until Christmas, but I have to take the week between christmas and new year's off... stupid work rules.
@lila Hey :)

lol
I think work is forcing that on 9-5/office staff
Ours is counted as annual leave which feels wierd
also... damn, I need to plan to clear some out in dec/jan/feb

Ael
@Tinkeringbell I absolutely dislike new year's eve. I'm glad I finally have a good excuse to avoid it this year ^^ (I avoid it the last two years too, but it was with bad excuses :p ). And also, that's way too many people!

9:28 AM
@Ael you could be like us and everyone is overseas :D

I usually manage to get out of 'gather in one house and drink and shout', but I haven't found a way to circumvent having to stay up late and sober and going outside to watch the fireworks.

Mom gets mad if I even suggest going to bed at 10 or staying up but not going outside.
Next year. Next year I'll hopefully have my own apartment and I can just sleep.

well no, we're overseas. :D
@Ael you could be like us and everyone is overseas :D

Ael
@Tinkeringbell I understand you so much! I absolutely hate having to stay awake. Like, seriously, just let me sleep! As for the firework, we don't have that in my hometown, so that as never been an issue. But I know I like firework in the summer (it's at 10pm, and I really enjoy going to watch it)
@JourneymanGeek Well, "unfortunately", I'm not planning on moving in another country just to avoid new year eve :p

@Ael Well the fireworks over here are something, there's a lot of them. The sky really explodes at midnight. And while it's pretty to watch, I don't like going outside for it because our neighbor usually has illegal stuff and most of the men are drunk and not working safely to begin with...

9:32 AM
You clearly lack resolve
and who said anything about moving. Clearly all you need to do is teleport everyone else somewhere else

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Ah yeah, drunk people are not cool. In the summer firework I'm talking about, it's one made by the city (so it's safe and definitively not illegal) and a huge part of the people going to watch it are families with "young" (less than 10yo) kids. So people aren't drunk

@Ael Yeah. I know the kind of show, we've seen a few like that when on vacation (they do them a lot for tourists too in France and Germany, at least in the 'tourist' spots).
I like those shows as much as the fireworks on new year's eve :)

Ael
I have no idea what your fireworks on new year's eve look like, but I'm glad you like it :) (and the firework I see in the summer is indeed most definitively a tourist spot ^^)
Anyway, I don't think Christmas would be "canceled". It probably should for safety reason but I pretty sure a lot of people in France would be too outrage to respect it. Plus, a lot those people would be rich and wealthy and the current governement really don't want to piss those one of (they keep giving gifts to the rich and wealthy, I don't see them stopping now especially since the governement is, in most part, part of those rich and wealthy people)

@Ael youtube.com/watch?v=yI0NTYw6-A4 < Like that, so a lot of people just firing fireworks. Basically, from the groun, wherever you look, there's a firework in the sky :)

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Ah yeah, that look nice. Though, it seems to be a safety nightmare. I can't imagine firefighter and doctors being happy with this ^^

9:44 AM
Firefighters are more concerned with 'wishing balloons' and bonfires, the balloons are a kind of paper lantern with an open flame beneath it, that land on roofs with reed as a covering and light those on fire.

Doctors are getting more and more verbal each year about mainly people misusing the fireworks and doing damage to their eyes.

@Tinkeringbell pretty sure the Japanese used that as a weapon in WW2

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Oh dear ^^'

@Tinkeringbell Please tell me how did you fit this extremely long message in just one message? :o

That last one is actually being pushed as a reason to ban all 'consumer' fireworks and only allow shows, together with people complaining about noise and people firing their fireworks too early.

They're conveniently forgetting there's not enough pyrotechnicians to do shows in every municipality in the Netherlands :P
Linebreaks.

Like this :P

@Tinkeringbell And that's all? Okay thanks :D

9:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek They might. I must admit the Japanese side of WWII is always a bit under-taught here... education focuses much more on Germany. And then the Americans dropped atomic bombs and all ends well.
@lila Yep!

Ael
Well, I'm never going to visit Netherland on new year eve, that sounds way too dangerous ^^

Do note that any linebreak in a message will break formatting.

So it won't do *italics*, **bold**, [or links](www.google.nl)
@Ael It's super nice if you can just stay inside and watch from an upstairs room :D
Or if you have responsible neighbors that aren't drunk

@Tinkeringbell Okay thanks I didn't even know all of this :D

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Unless one of your neighbour managed to put your roof on fire, that is... But yeah, that's probably still nice to watch. Just a little more dangerous :p

@Ael Yep. Btw, it's a very small chance that it's your roof :P

Ael
9:50 AM
Lucky me. Now I get to see someone else lose their house. That sure is an untertaining show...

@Tinkeringbell y'all did have to deal with them in indonesia. The fire lanterns was a US thing though

Hey, I said that to illustrate it was safer, not more entertaining! :P

so I probably heard about it from wargamers :D

@JourneymanGeek Ohh yeah, jappenkampen.

and well for being murderous <expletives> ...

Ael
9:53 AM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah well, what would really be safer would be to ban the lanter things completely. At least with the firework, it's usually the people "playing" with them who get hurts. Not a random neigbhour who didn't asked anything to anyone

they did kinda end up chasing the colonials out and creating prosperous blocks in asia... just not as part of the empire.

We get those during history classes as well but it's very... like world war 2 you get 2 chapters about how wwI ended and how Adolf Hitler ascended to power, then a whole chapter on the occupation of the Netherlands, a whole chapter on Holocaust, a chapter on the war in England and France, a chapter on America during WWII (and a bit post), but it mostly ends with Hitler's suicide.

There's much less chapters and lessons on what happens after, we kinda skip to 'rebuilding' and the countercultures of the 50s and 60s.
@Ael It is banned. No shop in the Netherlands is allowed to sell them and if you're caught trying to fly one it'll be confiscated. Doesn't stop people though :(

Ael
@Tinkeringbell Same here in France. We really barely talk about Japan. Here, the war ended when Germany surrender, not when Japan did
@Tinkeringbell Arf :/

@Tinkeringbell well, ours is focused on SEA for obvious reasons :D

Of course! It's interesting to note such a difference though :)

Ael
10:00 AM
Honestly, I almost don't know why Japan was part of WW2 (well, I do know now but it's mostly because I like Korean Drama and decided to learn a little more about their history)
(the history of Korea, not the history of Korean Drama)

10:20 AM
!!!!
@Ael ah, so, The Japanese wanted to replace European Colonialism with a sort of "Asian" colonialism. They essentially wanted china, korea and south east asia in their empire, and wanted an allied indian state to counterbalance/weaken the brits

My brain currently:

My brain is also letting me down. I think it's time to sneak in a walk outside :D
I just got mails in a row: I found a number ending in "A". I found a number ending in -01. I found a number ending in "v1".

It looks like next week will be regex, yay!

Ael
@Tinkeringbell If it can help: ihateregex.io/?ref=blogduwebdesign.com

12:51 PM
@Ael It's a shame how this annoying logo was obscuring the exact filmed target half of the time :/

Ael
@lila There are other videos without the logo if you want to look for it :)

ok :D

Ael
x)

1:21 PM
@Ael Mwah. I think I'd rather lobby for fixing the person that adds the suffixes instead of the code ;)

Ael
@Tinkeringbell That would work :p

@CaldeiraG I'm loving it!

@Tinkeringbell eheh :P
US only though
although i only got the broken machine excuse once

Oh well, I've never encountered a broken machine in the Netherlands.

most of the time when it's "broken" it's just cleaning itself
it takes a few hours

1:36 PM
Pfew. I need a break

even if they are 24/7 mcdonalds they would probably do it at night
unless you're crazy enough to buy icecream at 3am with 10c outside XD

challenge accepted wait what?

I do know when I still worked at the little bakery shop, the owner had us tell that excuse because he didn't want to prepare the whole machine and keep it in shape for half a season, so it was 'broken' until we didn't sell ice cream anymore.

Do you know how they call Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?

@Tinkeringbell yep
that's about it
@lila shoot it out

1:40 PM
They got a metric system there, they wouldn't know what a Quarter Pounder is.
@CaldeiraG Royale with Cheese :D

:P

Do you know what they put in French fries in Netherlands?
Mayonnaise :D
I've seen it, they drown them in mayonnaise!

yeah, that raspberry thing absolutely sucked, spent pretty much my free time tinkering with it
then i went to check the reviews of it and snap, lots of other people complaining
buying amazon's choice with 19k reviews was a mistake XD

@lila Mayonnaise, curry, and onion :D
Also sometimes served on pancakes

@Tinkeringbell Haha all these messages starting from Quarter Pounder were direct quotes from a movie, so it looks like they were actually right, I can't believe it :D

1:46 PM
Heh, yeah. Though Belgians also drown their Flemish fries in mayonnaise :P
Basically, fries are supposed to be drowned in mayonnaise, not dipped in milkshakes.
Hah. Article from the Delft University on fries for foreign students! delta.tudelft.nl/article/surviving-patat
And I think I should introduce you to patat kapsalon as well to conclude the lesson.

@lila Pulp Fiction!

@JourneymanGeek Haha you reassured me, I was worried nobody would guess :D
@Tinkeringbell Nice but this last thing, I'm sorry but someone had already invented gyros :D

@lila gyros is waaaay healthier than a kapsalon :P
It has veggies :P

@Tinkeringbell But the photo of kassoppaloon on Wikipedia also has vegetables :D

2:02 PM
+2899 (+31 deaths) :(

Yeah okay, a little lettuce and union.
@CaldeiraG We went over 10k today.

:/
deaths, although not the highest are concerning too
max was 37

@CaldeiraG We had 13632 new cases and tomorrow it starts the lockdown of closing down restaurants, etc. :/

in April 03
:(

:(

2:07 PM
@lila You're only locking down tomorrow? O.o
There's rumors about a stricter lockdown again here too, so that would probably mean also closing gyms and stuff again, perhaps schools too. Restaurants are already closed.

@Tinkeringbell By lockdown I mean closed restaurants, greatly reduced allowed density of people in markets, children less than 16 years old cannot go out between 8am and 4pm, closed down gyms, etc.

Yeah the closed restaurants, allowed density are already in effect here, we're calling it a 'light lockdown'. I'm just amazed that it took so long (until you have firmly over 10k new cases a day).

@Tinkeringbell It's been longer but it was regionalized before, there were "normal", "yellow" and "red" zones depending on the severity of c***d-19 cases there, 17th Oct they changed the whole land to be at least "yellow", and now 24th Oct they will change all land to be "red".

Ahh.
Yeah they tried regional here too.
Doesn't work in a tiny crowded country. 10 extra minutes of cycling and you can still have a drink at a bar.

And my zone was "normal" before, so that's why it all seems so rapid and fast to change things :/
@Tinkeringbell Haha before finishing this sentence, I imagined "10 minutes of cycling to go from border to border" :D

2:15 PM
@lila Nah, that would take you a 12-14 hours, I guess.
From Germany to the coast.
From the top of the Netherlands to Belgium would be twice that?

@Tinkeringbell I know I was just joking, I also once read that apparently there is a building, I don't remember but I assume it's airplane hangar or something, and it's surface area is 2x bigger that the surface area of the smallest sovereign state Vatican.

@lila Probably the bloemenveiling in Aalsmeer?
It is the largest flower auction in the world. The Aalsmeer Flower Auction building is the fourth largest building by footprint in the world, covering 518,000 square metres (5,580,000 sq ft; 128 acres).

@Tinkeringbell I look at the google photos and yes that's exactly this, I messed up it's not 2x bigger, and oh it's actually in Nederlands :D

Q: How do I politely turn down requests to see wedding photos?

friendlyI got married recently and have changed my name at work. People have noticed and are now asking for wedding photos. How do I tell them politely that no, I'm not going to show them? Lying and saying I don't have any doesn't seem very realistic.

Q: Neighbor stealing political yard signs

the_agile_scrum_guyI'm a conservative living in a very liberal neighborhood. Over the last few months, I have had 18 Trump signs stolen from my front yard, one at a time. Regardless of your political leanings, I'm sure you can sympathize with me that this is an extremely aggravating and frustrating situation. I a...

Ael
@ExtrovertedMainMan xD
Honestly, this is brilliant. Though it wouldn't happen in France because nobody would bother putting up such sign since of course it would be stollen/vandalised
(and not because it's Trump, just because it's a political sign)

5:40 PM
Please reply to this message and I will draw an extremely low quality version of your avatar in MS Paint like this.

@ExtrovertedMainMan Sooo many lacking details...
(If it could get a cv or two before I add mine, that'd be awesome)

5:56 PM
Nobody, really? Okay... ;_;

6:21 PM
Aww. Now I'm feeling doubly ungrateful XD
My brother just told me he ordered me new headphones, because he's been using mine when he goes to the gym. But he had to order a newer model, as the old one wasn't being sold anymore. So he spent around 300 euros on a new pair of headphones... And I told him it really wasn't necessary because the old ones weren't worth that much...
Now I made him doubt his decision/order :/

Ael
@lila Blop
@Tinkeringbell I mean, he should have asked you first, IMO :/

@Ael Well, he did ask if he could use mine ;)
He wanted to surprise me with the new ones though, and just sent me a message about it.
(That I needed to be home to catch the delivery guy tomorrow).
And while I really appreciate it and find it really sweet... it's not like he says 'just buying a new pair of headphones for me' because he hasn't been buying a new pair, he's massively overpaying for a two year old pair.

Ael
@Tinkeringbell I was only talking about the "buying you a new one" ^^
Anyway I'm a "I hate surprises" kind of person so, whatever happens I'm always like "you should have talk to them first!"

I don't mind surprises. But they have to be 'proportional'. Surprise bar of chocolate? Fine, perfect! Surprise 300 euro pair of headphones... eeehhhh. Then again my oldes brother and me took him to Disneyland Paris as a surprise so ....
I'm guilty too XD

Ael
Yeah, but does your brother like surprises? Like if someone tells me "I love suprise birthday parties!" then I wouldn't mind throwing one for them (though I would probably be incapable of keeping it a secret, but that's another issue x) ). But if someone doesn't like suprises? Then I will definitively warn them that something is going on and "ruin" the surprise for them even if it means that everyone else is pissed at me for telling them

6:35 PM
Oh he does...

Ael
Well then, no harm in making surprise for him :)

@Ael Okay finished :D

Ael
@lila OMG, I love it! It looks so... weirdly ugly that I'm actually laughting xD

@Ael Haha thanks, I did it in few minutes and I used just a computer mouse so it's supposed to be ugly :D

Ael
It also looks like a weird brain :D

6:39 PM
If somebody else wants me to draw their avatar like this then tell me please.
Maybe because your avatar at first looked like a brain for me :D

Ael
I personaly want to see more of those avatar! :D
@lila Oh, really? I never though someone could saw it that way

And I personally want to draw more of those, but I don't want to draw for someone who doesn't tell me first, it's because I openly say it's going to be ugly and low quality and maybe someone doesn't want to see their avatar massacred in this manner :D

Ael
@lila If you like doing it, would you mind doing another one for this avatar: meta.stackexchange.com/users/400547/belovedfool?tab=profile (it's also me but on MSE)

@Ael I thought it was a colorful brain all the time, until I looked at your profile and say the full resolution version + description "I love trees" ^.^
Okay give me a few minutes :D

Ael
@lila I like your interpretation of my avatar. It's poetic and it also goes well with the fact that I'm autistic (the symbole of nerodiversity is an infinite rainbow)
@lila <3
@lila And I would be curious to see a redrawn version of your avatar :)

6:56 PM
@Ael Haha thanks I'm happy you liked it and found something inspiring in it :D
@Ael Okay give me a few minutes :D

Ael
@lila Ow, so cute! <3

In this I have to admit I cheated a little, the eyes weren't done by hand but done with a tool of MS Paint (2-point Bézier curve), but I had to do it because symmetrical and proper shaped eyes are too essential for face's look.
Thanks :D

Ael
Well, in any case, it looks great!
I just changed my avatar on MSE. Thanks again lila :D (meta.stackexchange.com/users/400547/belovedfool?tab=profile)

@lila i challenge you :D
@Tinkeringbell :o
300 euros that's insane

@CaldeiraG sorry, it's more like 250 and I rounded up XD :P

7:05 PM
@Tinkeringbell still :D
maybe i'm too cheap

But yeah, it's a very expensive headphone. The noise cancelling is amazing though, as is the sound quality, and I really needed and used it when I spent hours on trains each day.

i'm really happy with my 10€ neckband earphones XD

I had cheaper ones for a looong time too, but they just weren't as comfortable, and good.

you got that noise cancelling nice
yeah i don't mind not having noise cancelling
and like unknown brands so to speak

I don't watch for brands. But I tried these on in a store and just... all the surrounding sounds were gone. I could stand on a train station with the headphones on, and I'd only start hearing the trains when they were actually passing in front of me.
It was so nice. But now I have a lease car so I don't really have a need for all that noise cancelling anymore XD

7:22 PM
@Ael Okay finished :D

Ael
@lila Okay, this is terrifying Oo

@Ael Wow thanks a lot, I'm literally shocked! If I knew you would make this your avatar, I would have made it better :D
@CaldeiraG Okay a few minutes pls then :D

@Tinkeringbell noice :D

Ael
@lila But that would have been against the point, wouldn't it?

@Ael :p

7:25 PM
@Ael Okay with this message you've relieved my anxiety about its imperfections :D

Ael
@lila I'm glad I could help :D And all the drawing you did so far are absolutely wonderful!

8:03 PM
@CaldeiraG I'm done, sorry but real-world faces are my nemesis in drawing :D

8:16 PM
@lila 😆 looks neat though
you could do my avatar :D

@CaldeiraG Thanks :D

or this one with the background

@CaldeiraG Okay this is my dream to draw, give me 20 seconds :D okay maybe a bit longer, but easy, okay this with background.

:D

@CaldeiraG Okay done :D what is this even supposed to be? A polar bear on a flowing cracked ice? :D

8:24 PM
@lila sort of XD
looks almost the same 😃 nice

Thanks!

Ael
I must say, both version of this avatar are really cute!

its a polar bear with the traffic cone on it (vlc symbol) and "an appropriate background" as i asked to the the person that draw it

And funny thing is that your avatar with face took me the longest time and effort but got 0 stars, but the lowest effort ones had 4 stars and 2 stars :D

so yea, you can say it's a flowing cracked ice
@lila XD
i'll star that too :P

8:26 PM
@CaldeiraG Okay I mean 1 star then :D thanks!

yw :D

Ael
@lila People on the internet like cute and/or funny things. I guess your drawing of Cald was neither of those things :p

@Ael It makes sense, and I'm not that good in determining what majority of people want :D

Ael
Also, as a general rule, if you post a serie of things in chat, the first one will always have more stars than the following ones (at least, that is what I have observe)

yep

8:30 PM
@Ael Okay makes sense, I guess people slowly get used to things and the positive shock value wears off.

8:55 PM
@CaldeiraG Oh that's interesting, could you tell a bit more about the details behind this "appropriate background" in that context, and how is this image related to you so that you use it as avatar?
