People sometimes mishear my given name, or simply don't pay attention when I say it. They then call me by a name which has the same first syllable. I don't feel invisible when this happens. Why should I? There are enough people who get it right when I tell them that those who get it wrong have simply made a mistake, which I immediately correct. They say sorry and repeat my actual name, then we both move on. If they insisted that my name was they initially misheard, I would then be offended. I would much rather people use the wrong pronouns than assume I'm non-binary and ask for them. —
