I would accept a lemonade XD i had my coffee a few min ago :)
I've had two lattes this morning, and I'm close to finishing my first bottle of water :)
09:06
@Tinkeringbell Good thing you didn't forget this last word. I was already imagining you drinking not water at the office x)
Some days, that seems like an entirely viable option though.
Just go for iced tea instead of water :P
Yeah, sure "iced tea" :p
Ssssh :P
10:06
good day everyone :)
@dhein Hey there, long time no see! How is life going for you?
Just came back from a hiking/wildcamping trip in Norway yesterday. Was there the whole last week. The week before that I was sick and worried, I might not be fit in time for my trip. So right now I am still a little stressed and happy to find back to my daily routines over the next days :) What about you?
Oh, wildcamping sounds really nice! I know my sister would love doing something like that (I believe I would enjoy it too, as long as there isn't too much hiking :p )
As for me, I'm currently switching medication for my anxiety/depression and, well, let's just say that I am not at my best (even though life is treating me well, which is nice :) )
10:43
Wow, Skeptic really looks like a ghost town. I asked a question more than 30 minutes ago and there is only 7 views so far oO
@Ælis Best part about it, and I am sure you'd like it... :P There are no people around. All in social interaction with others we had, was a single hunter we encountered. Thats all within 7 days :P
@Ælis Oh thats rough... hope you get used to the medications soon.
@dhein Wow, almost sound like a dream! :p Did you see wild animals? That's usually the best part about hiking in the wild
@dhein Thank you, I hope that too :)
Did you have nice weather?

Q: Are my grandparents being too relaxed about this situation?

user1261710If you have read my previous question regarding this topic then I have discovered that my paternal grandparents didn’t know that I existed. My grandparents allege that they have been in contact with my father on a weekly basis since he moved out of their family home. They said that they knew my ...

10:59
Well, i need to redo my answer lol :p Don't have many time rn xD thanks for the advice @Ælis
@CaldeiraG You're welcome ^^ I think you can delete it in the meantime if you don't want to attract downvotes (then you edit, and hit the "undelete" button and, tada!)
@Ælis Yea, i did that, good call :)
lunch rn :)
11:20
@Ælis You mean like Bears, Moos or wolves? No ^^ More the not so preffered by me ants, spiders and other bugs xD
@Tinkeringbell How you mean?
@Tinkeringbell It was a blessing, our destination trip was in heavy rain all the way, but the moment we arrived it stopped. we had 4 very sunny days and just when we started packing to leave, it started raining and our drive back home was as rainy (well partially in the norwegian mountains even snowy) as our first drive ^^
@dhein That sounds like you had a great hike. I don't mind camping myself, but I really dislike doing so in rainy weather!
@dhein Ehh. Please, nevermind. Imagine a Hagrid saying 'I should not have said that'.
11:36
@Tinkeringbell Still it being said and I would love to at least understand what was meant by what was never said '^.^
@Tinkeringbell Yeah, well it was wet still, since we were surrounded by springs. But yeah, we were able to make a fire and despite it was cold, we had a great time :)
@dhein Campfires are great! It's one of my best memories from camping in the woods for 2 weeks (experimental archaeology internship).
@dhein SE is a big trashfire for the past week (and still going), especially main meta. It was bad enough that I took a break from everything, I've only been back to chatting here since last Friday. The rest you'll really have to dig up yourself if you like trashfires.
@Tinkeringbell Ah, no I am actually not the sort of of person being into catastrophe tourism ^^ Thanks for clarifying that point then. ^^ So are there any new sort of policys one should be aware of?
@dhein Nope :)
No SchadenFreude for you? ;)
12:05
@Ælis can you take a look now at my answer? :)
12:18
@Tinkeringbell I am an Schadensfrohe person. But I preserve my emotions for those I at least to some extend personally know. If I was just looking for every opportunity.... there were simply too many people on the internet to focus on the remaining chores my day has. ^^
@CaldeiraG Hum, I kind of find the back up a bit light, especially for that: "Trying to address this with the offended people will cause more issues to the community and possibly degrade Mr. Newbie experience on the server." -> Did this happen to you in the past? Do you have relevant example that you could talk to us about?
@dhein Hahaha yeah, I guess that's true ;)
@Ælis Being called a cheater when you're not degrades your game experience, I've been there, not for the same reasons though
13:31
Would it be fair to answer that you probably shouldn't let them back because it sets the precedent that you don't actually enforce your bans? Do you have some kind of government for making big decisions or is the server an autocracy? — Pharap 19 secs ago

@IPSCommentBot This is a completely useless comment. It just relinks the same post in response to a comment that pointed to that post as a possible duplicate

it's because the other question got active by me :)
so basically everyone is revisiting those
@CaldeiraG Look what you've done
Damn. This answer got 7 upvotes in the first 30 seconds. The meta-stalkers are active :p
@scohe001 I'm not surprised, lot of activity there, people leave their tabs open there
Everyone is been waiting for Monica's response
But then click over to it, open the answer, read and vote all in 30 seconds? In the words of the younger generation, "People be cray"
13:48
I have never heard or seen anyone say that, ever.
@user58 well you can't say that anymore after I just said that, now can you :p
I believe the actual quote uses a word a little stronger than "People" that starts with a b
@user58 You seem to appear every time someone talks about "young people". Do you have a special alarm for that who wake you up even in the middle of the night? :p
...it probably just means I spend an unhealthy amount of time stalking various SE chat rooms.
And don't get enough sleep.
user15026
Sleep is good, I suggest more of that.
13:53
@Ælis We have a "user58 signal". It's a giant spotlight that shows a pair of kitten ears in the sky
@Rainbacon Yep, that's what I figured
@Ash I got a whole seven hours last night. That's more than almost any other night since the current SE thing exploded. *huge yawn* I'll definitely be making it an early night... although maybe not quite as early as 5PM. ;)
user15026
@user58 okay yes maybe thats a little early :p
15:59
It sounds like an extremely emotional and difficult situation. They love their son, and have for decades. They don't really know you at all. They suddenly learned of this information all at once and without warning, and from a source that may not be telling them the full story. What reaction is it that you're expecting them to have, exactly, and what is it that you'd like to happen? — Upper_Case 1 min ago

Q: What pronoun to use when talking about a transgender person's past?

FFNI have an old friend who recently came out as transgender. We have a very healthy relationship in general, but I often find myself wondering if I should mention his past (before he came out) and, if I do bring it up, if I should refer to him by masculine or feminine pronouns. My question is: Is ...

And thanks to Cascabel and @Ælis
@ankii You should raise a custom mod flag under the question so that a mod can take care of it
could you, RO clean this up?
@ankii Also, I think Meg thought it was rude to address a trans person as being "Female to male transgender". But, for those who don't know, it's something very commonly done in the trans community. I, however, prefer to say that "I'm a non-binary person who was assigned female at birth". But saying "Female to Male" is fine too
But the comments there say otherwise
see also: AFAB
18:08
can there be a least friction way?
@ankii Oh, didn't saw the comments, I think editing by saying "Assigned Female at Birth" would be fine (I was afraid the other way of phrasing would be confusing for people outside the trans community)
My way of least friction would be, that post hadn't been touched in almost 2 years, so I'd leave it alone
"AFAB" can be iffy too, from what I have read :/
(reading post now)
@Rainbacon doesn't mean we can't have some policy? internal, among editors . not that it was the last post
@EmC Oh, really? Do you have some link who would talk about that? I would be curious to know why ^^
18:15
hm, it looks like Meg was editing to include the suggestion from comments, so I'm kind of inclined to roll back again to her edit and then clean up the comments, actually
@Rainbacon The post was edited one hour ago and I did a rollback. I agree that leaving it alone in the first place would have been good, but I'm afraid it's a little bit late now ^^
I'm not in any way an expert on correct language for people who are transgender. I would tend to stick with whatever way a person uses to refer to themself. In the absence of that I would probably only try to correct things that I knew were clearly offensive
@EmC I should probably have read the comment before doing the rollback. In any case, I fine with any course of action
@Ælis ah no links that I know of :( to be fair I think the context is really important. I saw these objections when because people were.. well, basically lumping "cis men" and "AMAB" together
(in order to criticize their behavior conforming to gender roles etc etc... suffice to say it was a messy situation)
@EmC I could see how that could be messy ^^
18:25
yeah :/ I guess it's made me wary of describing others that way, just in case they don't like it. but of course if it's a helpful label for you, don't let me discourage you :)
Oh, don't worry, I wasn't discouraged ^^
:)
I rolled back the edit btw and noted the reason in the revision history. looks like I might need to do some comment cleanup on the answers later too :P
@EmC I guess, when it comes to describing someone else, the most important thing is to know how they are ok to be described (like you wouldn't out someone else without their permission)
@EmC Saw that, thanks for the cleaning and the decision making :)
@Ælis definitely!
18:43

Ooh, @Ælis you might enjoy this: IPS currently has 3,333 questions
@Rainbacon Oh, nice! Did you know that I posted more than 1% of them?
No, but I'm not surprised
Hehe :p
You have the most questions by quite a bit
What does surprise me is that I still have more answers than questions. I suppose answers are easier to come up with and less noticeable
20:33
I feel like it's easier to answer multiple times a day too
20:55
I feel like we've had quite a bit of activity this afternoon, but no comments for the past several hours. I think that's a good thing
I don't like when we don't see comment in the closet. It makes me wonder if the bot is dead ^^
I've checked the top 4 or 5 questions on the front page, and none of them have new comments since the last one posted in the closet
Well, I guess there is one new comment, but it was written by a mod on an answer after it had been deleted. My guess is that the bot won't pick that up
Yeah, never saw the bot pick up comment from deleted stuff (even if it makes me sad :'( )
:p

tiny vent time.. I am so happy about moving offices later this week..... my coworker just tapped my shoulder from behind while I had headphones on and it turns out I Do Not Like That
otherwise I would be reading the question we had about that very intently right now :P
@Ælis did you replied to my message here? :p

People sometimes mishear my given name, or simply don't pay attention when I say it. They then call me by a name which has the same first syllable. I don't feel invisible when this happens. Why should I? There are enough people who get it right when I tell them that those who get it wrong have simply made a mistake, which I immediately correct. They say sorry and repeat my actual name, then we both move on. If they insisted that my name was they initially misheard, I would then be offended. I would much rather people use the wrong pronouns than assume I'm non-binary and ask for them. — CJ Dennis 1 min ago
