First of all, from that link on hyperbolic functions, you can see that we can define cosh (hyperbolic consine) in terms of exponential.

So that answers the second question. It is just follows from the definition of cosh itself.

@Anilla It may be worth finding out how your chosen language actually calculates cosh. If it's by way of one of the identities using exp(), then you may be better off using a form that uses exp instead of cosh.

ASL is one of the coolest languages. Being able to 'speak' without speaking... my ex knew it and they were able to communicate with their siblings from far away in super loud areas. Loads of respect :)
