6:02 PM
@avazula I think it also puts some scrutiny on all the meta posts you ever wrote :P I already have 2 comments to address this day! :P

@Tinkeringbell People are ruthless

@Tinkeringbell it makes them seem "official"... which is rather the wrong attitude

@Mithrandir Yeah... I guess that's it ;) Ah well, I'm working on em :P

Moderators are simply members of the community with some extra janitor abilities.

@avazula @Tinkeringbell I am dissatisfied with the quality of my cold drink

6:04 PM
@Mithrandir I think this is a pretty good rpz of the job ... So much work, not much gratitude

There are times when a mod will create an "official" meta post, but usually they're just acting as members of the community.

@Mithrandir is that the official stance?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

@avazula I even slapped and kicked it. The floor is dissatisfied too now

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ in chat absolutely everything I say is the law, of course

6:05 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Yep, looks like you need a janitor. Just flag it :P

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Seems like you'd be a terrible father

(that's sarcasm)

@Tinkeringbell No need to flag. Mith already knows

2 days ago, by Cascabel
Please please don't ping mods instead of flagging.

@avazula I don't wanna befather a drink

6:07 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I bet you don't

@avazula you won the bet!
What did we bet on?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ cold drinks are beyond the reach of the mod tools

@Mithrandir mops aren't

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ YOUR SOUL

Ha good luck with that

6:08 PM
@avazula I'm afraid you were cheated, then.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ doesn't have a soul.

@Mithrandir Schuss, again?
I'm not licky then

@Mith totally doesn't need his soul though

I need to find souls to survive

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I sold mine long ago

@Mithrandir I guess that's why we've got rep on SE sites

6:10 PM
@Mithrandir you're lying, which is what soul . . . Soulful peasants would do

Speaking of souls, has anyone read The Host?

I know about the movie

They made a movie out of it? Uh-oh.

@Mithrandir Have no idea what it is ...

@avazula book by Stephanie Meyer

6:12 PM
@avazula it's the host, duh

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ How stupid I am.
Stephenie Meyer, like the author of Twilight?

@Mithrandir got that right. 9 percent on Rotten Potatoes

Oh yeah, I've seen the movie too! Hated it, though...
But I'm terrible at movies
Haven't seen most of the classics

It doesn't seem like it would adapt well.

Don't like it
Sorry not sorry
ahah
@Mithrandir Well, I don't think either...

6:15 PM
@avazula huh, since when does that make someone bad at movies?

I should have read it though, to get a better opinion

I almost want to watch it out of a morbid sense of curiosity now.

@Mithrandir You won't regret it. But you'd loose your evening.
(But maybe it's not even the evening where you live?)
I'm stunned by the difference of origins on this chat

It is, but we've got a different movie planned.

@avazula meh, don't listen to the bookworm

6:16 PM
It's 9:15PM.

22:44

@Mithrandir It's already that late? Ugh...

@Mithrandir Shit, we're only 1 hour away! Wouldn't have bet on that

@Mithrandir I'm not listening

6:17 PM
@Mithrandir Is this the bloodhood gang?
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ to what?

@avazula Charlie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Damn good movie

@Mithrandir Oh, yes! Seing people in such costumes, I thought they were the BloodHood Gang
I freaking love Roald Dahl
The comment under that video is pure gold: PLEASE donate to help my wife finish college!

If I disappear, assume I went to watch a movie

@Mithrandir what will you be watching?

6:20 PM
Either Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (also out of morbid curiosity) or Back to the Future 3, depending on if my littlest sister is watching or not

@Mithrandir They are equally good to me
(But as I said, not a reference hehe)

Well, I'm certainly not going to trust what @M.A.R. says about anything.
:P

Well, that's because you've known @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ for a while, and me, maybe only for a couple of days ,ahah

@Mithrandir ಠ_ಠ
Ha, Tom Holland had problems with Chris Pratt on set because he made him laugh too much
@Mithrandir I even got to get LOTR, but Harry Potter, no thank you
You should totally watch Fury . . . Oh wait, you're not old enough :p

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ How old are YOU?

6:36 PM
@avazula 19

Shit you're young
ahah

Shit I'm young

Seriously, I was surprised when learning about @Mithrandir's age earlier. I'm happy for you that you're so open-minded & curious at your age

Stop making me feel old!

@avazula Yeah, my brain is all over the place. So open

6:38 PM
@Rainbacon How old are you? I could make you feel younger maybe ahah

25

Brainnnzzzzzz

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Try not to put it everywhere, it's made of fat after all, and fat stains are hard to clean
@Rainbacon Oops... Sorry. But I'm close :)

Well, I have white hair, and can't walk straight cause I feel dizzy all the times these days
You are the inexperienced young

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Don't provoke me

6:39 PM
I feel like I should be yelling at all the kids in here to get off my lawn

You're barely old enough to be able to drink
@Rainbacon YOU DAMN KIDS GET OFF MY PROPERTY!
@Rainbacon I'd join you in this initiative

@avazula provokes

Actually I loved the Ready Player One movie, just because of its tracklist

@avazula the drinking age in Iran is infinity
@avazula can't wait to watch it

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Well, you're barely old enough to drink in most pubs on Mars
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Well, I won't spoil then. Unless ... ?

6:42 PM
@avazula I don't mind spoilers

(Btw I wanted to say allowed, not able)
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ So you're part of this tiny, non-understable part of the population?

I hate alcohol with a passion
I smell it every 2 days
@avazula I think the only real spoilers that should be avoided are the most mind-blowing plot twists, and those happen rarely in movies.

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Just to remind you of your aliveness?

Explaining any other part of the plot will never replace watching that part

If I say you wouldn't be disappointed with that movie, is it a spoiler in itself?

6:45 PM
@avazula to disinfect my fistula needle wounds . . .
Great, I spilled the beans here too

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Try to eat cleanly?

@avazula only the spoiled think of that as a spoiler

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ But you're way beyond that, aren't you?

@avazula Why do you expect a 19-year-old boy to eat cleanly?

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I wouldn't expect anything from a boy, whatever his age
Oops
Too far?

6:46 PM
Nah

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I'm sorry

For what?

We're 9 over there, I'm the oldest, they're only 3 boys and they despair me
"You can wash the dishes as well as I do, Timmy!"

Our culture is not over-sensitive about gender issues
@avazula ha

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I wanted to say "who said I'm not a man" but I've noticed my sentence betrayed me

6:49 PM
Everyone knows you're a dog
Or a cat behind a keyboard instead of on top of it

I'm more of a penguin actually
But you already knew, didn't you

Ugh, I already have enough trouble with one polar animal

Ahah, I'm sorry for you
Time to cook
Bye everyone! See you later :)

Bye!
Seafood is bad for me though

Agreed. I once had a boss reneg on a bonus he said he was going to give me for delaying my exit from the company to pass on domain knowledge to the other employees who would have to take over my responsibilities. After conveniently changing his understanding of the verbal agreement, he chased me down via e-mail asking me to still do it even after I had left with the company. I simply didn't respond; there's no point, especially if you never want to work with this person again. Don't let people take advantage of you. — Colin Basnett 19 secs ago

Q: Keeping distance in a close office environment

thrawnTitle might be misleading but it is more of a IPS question for me instead of a workplace one.And sorry for my English since it's not my native language. I work in a small company (less than 10 people including bosses) and majority is in same room which is not a big one. We have the lunches toget...

So the ideas seem artificial, but you're going to go with them anyway, and try to disguise their artificial nature? Why not think of something you'll both enjoy, if you've known them for 3-4 years? — Callum Bradbury 18 secs ago

Q: How to make getting to know someone more organic?

charlie44(Or, am I over thinking everything) There is a girl (Jen) that I've been acquaintances with for about 3-4 years. I recently asked her if she would be okay with me getting to know her better. In my mind, this puts the scenario at me having an interest in her, but perhaps not the other way around ...

8:26 PM
comes back from movie to discover I can see deleted posts

@Mithrandir congrats

@Mithrandir You couldn't do that before? Congrats.

Thanks :)
@Pheo not on IPS

Oh. :-)

I'm still trying to find enough places to gain rep so I can get to that point.

8:32 PM
@Rainbacon Try AI.SE
The fourth meta post down. Great oppourtunity to both help and be helped.

Rep on AI.SE won't help me see deleted posts on IPS though

0_0 SE is weird

@avazula a lot of people are for some reason. Evidently I'm an abnormal teenager.

Thats all you are going to get from me about AI.SE tonight folks!
Where do I go to upvote the IPS on area 51?

You can't. The site went into beta, so voting and following are locked.

8:38 PM
@Pheo I don't believe that you can anymore, it's already into public beta. I'm not active on area 51, but I think votes there are only or pre-beta

:(I was looking forward to voting on it)
How much moderation is IPS in need of?

In terms of amount of ♦ moderators? There are 5 now, which should be enough. In terms of people voting and flagging? A lot.

Not an answer?

I flagged it as VLQ
But NAA probably would work as well

8:42 PM
I'm glad I came here. Gives me some moderation practice.
@Rainbacon someone upvoted that post.

@Pheo Is there a reason I need to know that?

@Rainbacon the fact that someone thinks that is OK?

There will always be people upvoting bad content.

user15026
You will just drive yourself crazy if you try to figure out why people vote as they do

@Ash I never considered that...

8:58 PM
for £100 per vote I'll tell you why

@ArtOfCode I'll pass.

He does have a legal claim. In the absence of written documents, verbal agreements stand. And, neither party can prove the records belong to him. In that event, whoever is in possession of the items is the owner. — Awesome 1 min ago

@Mithrandir What is the percentage?

390 out of 753 in the past 3 months.

9:04 PM
wow

I don't believe it.

So, we're closing 51% of the asked questions
@Pheo I believe it

Hi justniz and welcome to IPS. Just a thought for future posts, please consider drafting them in a text editor instead of posting many small edits "live" - it's great that you are trying to improve your answer, but each edit bumps the post, so it's preferable to make a few substantial edits instead if possible. Thanks! — Em C 39 secs ago

Compare to Scifi.SE, with 519 out of 2285 closed in the same timespan.

So it means were closing a lot of questions?

9:18 PM
Yup. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

\o/ finally a site with a close rate to match HR

@Mithrandir is that including questions that are closed and then reopened?
or just questions that are closed and stayed closed?

And especially because of the topic of IPS

I'm not sure.
I've never actually poked around with these so much. Just glance every once in a while.

Ok, yeah, those numbers include questions closed and reopened
(There's a statistics table immediately following those stats; if you total up the Closed count it adds up to those stats)
In the past 90 days, RPG.SE had 598 questions closed, of which 178 were reopened (so 420 closed and stayed closed). Out of 1918 questions asked, that's 31.18% closed (whatever outcome), ~22% closed and stayed closed, ~9% closed and later reopened.

9:37 PM
Are those good numbers?

they are entirely neutral numbers

none of them are even prime, psh

@Cascabel That has something to do with it?

...no

prime numbers are just better than all the rest

@doppelgreener get back to me when you have perfect numbers!

I like perfect squares, myself.

(preferably an odd perfect number so you can solve two problems at once)

10:00 PM
@Cascabel I don't understand.

Q: How can I ask to the writer is male or female politely?

Marisol Y.I was looking for a shared room on Craigslist and I found one I'm interested in. On the post, the writer didn't specified if he/she is male or female. Because I'm a female I wanted to ask by email about his/her gender. How can I ask whether the writer is male or female politely?

10:51 PM
Mathmatica
@Cascabel You can also stick with the number 1, which is special, odd, and perfect, and prime.

11:03 PM
1 is not prime or perfect.

Uh... factors of one.... 1?

@Mithrandir I wasn't aware that 720 was a perfect number :P

That was an exclamation point, not a factorial

11:52 PM
I agree with this answer. Let the old folks spend their money how they want. If they have their basic needs taken care of, don't even give your opinion. I can't help but think that your concern is seeing your potential inheritance get spent, or having to clean up their crap when they die. I envy these people and I can only hope to spend my last years the same way. — ashleedawg 1 min ago
