@GypsySpellweaver yep agree
@10Replies seriously? I am concerned by this comment on many levels. Looking for love at the age of 10 is worrying
I'd like to see an example of what would be considered a canonical question. I'm struggling to see how there could be one

I have so much to say, yet every time I type out is followed by regrets. Sound familiar?
That has been familiar to me ever since a keyboard landed in the late 1960s.
Talk about 50 odd years of awkward silence.

yes that is familiar

@GregoryAvery-Weir No. The monkey is an example of the thing I wanted to do. I didn't actually want to make a monkey into a silhouette. I wanted to know how to make silhouettes in general, but, I specified it to a specific general case. I even used the default model in blender. Suzanne, the monkey is the general prototype model for any blender demos.
Not quite sure how that would translate over to Interpersonal skills though, hence my meta post "Isolating the problem"

@10Replies Did you mean to reply to Ben I.? I don't think the image makes it specific. I think it is specific because you asked how to do 1) a certain effect 2) using a certain technique 3) without using a certain hack. That seems specific to me.

Has anyone considered weighing in on this:

Q: Should we tag questions based on age?

HDE 226868I created the young-adults tag for this question because it seems like the answers to a more general question could be different for different age groups, and this clearly pertained to teenagers. I think that there are similar cases where such categorization could be useful, such as in questions ...

It has four answers that cross the spectrum and 11 upvotes on the question but no one seems interested in voting on it. I'm curious what people think about it.

@Catija This is quite the obedient room, then.
Indeed
I still think that it could work . . . just not for all questions. But if @Catija's right, and it makes things more complicated without as much gain, it might not be worth pursuing.
I think tagging questions is with age range is good
I'm not sure I agree with Chad that these would be meta tags, although that would be an interesting conversation to have. I also don't think that all meta tags are bad, though that's counter to SE's stance, I believe. In some cases, they work - and not just for tags like .
@HDE226868 Sure. I was thinking about the meta tag argument when I was writing my answer and after Chad wrote theirs... and I feel that it might be a bit premature to argue the meta tag argument, particularly if we're looking at limiting which questions use the tag or how the tag is used. I'd prefer to use them in the case where you're specifically asking about a group... So, as an example:
> My son-in-law has a group of friends who come over all of the time and they leave a mess that we then have to clean up, how can I get these kids to respect my home and clean up after themselves?
22:17
That's a good example case.
So, in that case, you're not classifying yourself, you're defining who you're having to interact with.
That's true. I think that was my original intent behind the proposition - determining the relevant age(s) of the participants of the situation as a whole, not (or not just) the OPs.
@HDE226868 My concern is that we're getting a bit tag crazy. "Tag your location" - "Tag your age group"... considering we're limited to five tags, that starts being a problem for actually classifying the question.
@Catija Sure, which is why I don't think the tags should be mandatory - just optional.
Hence my comment on the current top-rated answer.
22:30
Ah, yes, I just saw that.
I've edited my answer to reflect our recent discussion. Still generally unfavorable to overarching usage of the tag but allowing that there may be questions that the tag would be beneficial for.
I'll agree with that; +1 there.
To be honest, that's the only one of those answers I've voted on.
One of my favorite parts of meta is attempting to write questions in as neutral a voice as I can just because I think that is how it should be. I don't always succeed but it's amusing when I can write up a query and have people assume I was pro or anti the request and actually be the opposite.
It also avoids the whole awkwardness of wanting to upvote because the discussion needs to be had, but not wanting to upvote because the question is clearly written to support one side, as many are.
Yep. I constantly tell myself, write it in a neutral way so that people vote based on the question quality rather than agreeing with it or not... then let them vote on the answers.
Sometimes I'll self-answer, too.
