Oh IPScommentbot, I love when you talk to me

Hehe...
It is about the only thing talking in here during weekends, with the exception of main man ;)

@Tinkeringbell but you're here ;)

I am always watching ;)

Stop it, I'm gonna call you big brother :p
I'm waiting for my return plane in Prague so I was checking the main site and chat to see whats been going on lately

1:41 PM
chills

Reminds me also of that one black mirror episode...

Meh dogs have the best social credit ;)

I just boosted my score by a 100 I guess :P
I did groceries and was really well behaved while doing them :D

@Tinkeringbell because that's not how you nornally behave? :p

@avazula Of course I do. Unless people are misbehaving first. Then hide!

1:44 PM
@Tinkeringbell :) sounds pretty healthy to me, although I'm terrible at standing up for my respect
I don't know, I guess I'm afraid of making a scene or something

@avazula I don't mind making a scene if I'm right ;)
Most of the time I sigh and keep calm though :)

@Tinkeringbell and you're perfectly right. I think I'm too afraid that people wouldn't get on my side even if I'm right :p
@Tinkeringbell yeah, it's usually not worthing it getting upset ...

It's usually much easier to steer a calm person ;)
And in order to keep the other person calm, you gotta be calm yourselves

Q: How to handle students in a classroom who might have feelings for you?

motiurI am in my early 30s, unmarried male. I teach engineering at a local university. Each of my classes have around 30 students. I try to treat everyone fairly. There are of course students, students who do not want to interact and also who wants to over interact, as well as the level headed ones. ...

@ExtrovertedMainMan This needs a better title; as it stands, it looks like a "What should I do?" question.

6:11 PM
@Mithrandir To be fair, the question itself sounds like a "what should I do". Or, at the very least, isn't very clear. I didn't vtc (yet) because I was fearing being biased against the question but I might reconsider it

> is there a way to distance myself emotionally to twenty year old attention seeking female students without being rude and at the same time trying to maintain control of my class

@Mithrandir I tend to interpret "is there a way" as a "what should I do" but it might only be me. For now, I thing I will just wait to see if other think the question should be (temporarily) closed.

Hello people. Went apple picking this morning. Making apple sauce now :)

user15026
That sounds delicious :)

It will be delicious. I still have to figure out what else to do with 19 more Cortland apples and 14 Gala and Jonagold apples
I can't tell apart the Gala and Jonagold well, so i just lumped them together

user15026
Apple crisp?

i'm thinking apple cake :D
and probably more apple sauce.

user15026
ooooh apple cake would be tasty

7:45 PM
mmmmhm. Something for hubby to nom on
so i'm not the only one burdened with digesting all these apples

user15026
If you're looking for ideas, I also like Appeltaart (baking-sense.com/2015/12/01/dutch-apple-tart-appeltaart) and it is pretty easy. (Its similar to pie but the crust is more like a cookie sort of thing rather than a pastry, kinda).

oooh thanks!!

user15026
(My family is from the Netherlands, and my aunt actually has my grandma's copy of the recipe book that this blog references!)

8:00 PM
@Ash And you've kept that secret from me? :( Appeltaart is best!

@Ash my mom's family is also Dutch... that's cool! I got dutch lettuce recipe from my grandma, plus i'm looking for a good oleobollin and dutch fritters recipe :)

I can ask Mom for the Oliebollen ;)
So, does any of you eat Snert?

I don't... i don't even know what it is
The reason I'm asking for those recipes are that I have plenty of italian cooking influence from my dad's side but not enough from my mother's side... so i'm pursuing that more now

user15026
@Tinkeringbell Oliebollen scare me to make because I am scared of the hot oil

user15026
@Tinkeringbell I love it so much

user15026
8:05 PM
@Tinkeringbell thats a pea soup, right?

@Ash ah. You can use a frying pan if you want. But yeah, it's a bit of a dangerous recipe ;)
I think Mom uses roggebrood to see if the oil is hot enough and if it is, there shouldn't be much problems
@Ash It is ;)

user15026
@Tinkeringbell my grandma used to make oliebollen and croquettes every Christmas, I miss that (she passed away a few years ago)

user15026
but again croquettes mean hot oil :/

@ElizB Oliebollen require a lot of work if made from scratch, you have to make batter, put it in a hot room so it will rise, stir, wait for it to rise again, and then bake
@Ash Yep. So I assume you don't often fry stuff?

user15026
Not anything that requires like inches of oil, no

user15026
8:09 PM
I own a deep fryer but I haven't felt brave enough to use it

user15026
(I know that's silly but here we are :P)

Oktoberfest started again
time to get memed for a whole month online again

@Ash I was just about to ask if that would help ;) apparently not.
In a way, deep fryers are quite safe, safer than pans and oil
As they turn off the heating once they're at a certain temp
@Magisch Ohh. Enjoy?

user15026
Yeah, part of it is I have a very small kitchen so I really don't have anywhere to plug in the deep fryer that feels safe

user15026
I have very little counter/table space.

8:11 PM
Ours we generally use outside ;)

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, I get that. My sister made it when she was younger, in 5th or 6th grade for her school's international night. My mom really enjoyed making it with her. They are sooooo good

user15026
But I will hold on to the deep fryer, eventually when my husband can move here we will have more room as we will move to a bigger place with hopefully a better kitchen

user15026
Then I will make ALL the oliebollen and croquettes and it will be delicious :P

@Ash :D sounds like a good plan! Make him Oliebollen once he's there ;)
@ElizB I'll poke mom for the recipe ;)

user15026
@Tinkeringbell Heck yes :D Deep fried celebration dinner :P

8:12 PM
@Tinkeringbell Thanks!
my aunt is gonna send me her recipe as well

@ElizB if there's differences, I'd like to know ;) I know one of my aunt's likes to use beer, but her bollen are always a lot tougher than ours
@Ash :D with ice cream for dessert!
Deep fried ice cream

@Tinkeringbell Ah, interesting.
I'm curious to know the differences as well :)

user15026
@Tinkeringbell oooh I have had that before at some sushi places, funnily enough

user15026
I like it!

me too. it's all about the process of shaping it, putting the batter on, freezing, then frying

8:19 PM
@Ash One of my cousins married a cook, he made it for the family once... I liked it too, but I should really learn how to cook such stuff myself
Everytime I see people talking food on SE or Twitter I'm reminded of how boring and bland most of the food I eat actually is ..

user15026
I tend to cook very boring easy stuff during the week because I get home so late and then on the weekends I cook more fun stuff

(I should say prepare instead of eat, as I do eat stuff that I haven't cooked and like it )

I found a really cool pdf I downloaded with all the spices and what they go with

user15026
I have steak defrosting for when I get home from work tonight, going to have that and mashed potatoes

user15026
@ElizB ooooh that sounds helpful!

8:22 PM
i can share the dropbox link but not sure how
i basically had to sign up to their list (no paying anything of course)
so to save the trouble of doing that i'm happy to give the pdf

1 hour later…
9:41 PM
it's been six months since me and hubby married... we survived this long!

user15026
Huzzah! :) time for cake? :P (I just like excuses for cake)

@ElizB yay, happy half anniversary :D I second the motion for cake :P

+1 for cake

Maybe apple cake! I think I will get a mix and make some. I don't think i have enough flour right now

user15026
This sounds like a perfect plan

user15026
9:51 PM
I just got home from work so steak and mashed potatoes are next up on my menu.

yummy. I'm working up my motivation to bake chicken wings and cook beans and asparagus with garlic and soy sauce
I don't eat steak all that much, I'm much more interested in the white meat. chicken, turkey, etc.

1 hour later…
11:01 PM
@Noon I agree with you on that, although i think there's a slight nuance that is "is my goal even reachable?" Which seems a bit more acceptable in here
@ElizB happy anniversary :)

user15026
@ElizB I don't either really, but my sister gave me some steak from her cows so I was like okay, free steak, that I can do

@Ash back to when I was still eating meat, beef was my favorite kind

user15026
I tend to be more of a pork person, myself. I love sausages and bacon and ham

@Ash ooh, that was the kind of meat i disliked most. I think it's too... Greasy? You know what I mean?
Otherwise, I'm finally home :D our plane needed two times to land because of the terrible weather. We almost needed to go back to Paris. I think there were a lot of people from Brittany because they all ranted till we landed and they applauded when we finally hit the ground. That was funny.

nice, being home is always good

11:06 PM
After that I still had one hour driving home on dark, rainy land roads. I stood behind a snail the whole trip. At least I had no chance to water drifting xD
@Mithrandir yay :) although I really enjoyed Chzechia and Slovakia . Those are marvelous countries!
@Ash but maybe i didn't know how to cook it properly as well :)

user15026
11:20 PM
@avazula my family raises pigs so I am around pork a lot, so I suspect I have just had a lot of practice

11:44 PM
@avazula Thanks! :)
@Ash Ah, gotcha. I would probably do the same if I had the same situation.
I just made myself a huge dinner. :D
Hrm. That's rotated
just tilt your head to the left....
Chicken wings, beans and asparagus, and sweet potato.

user15026
Yum!
