Q: How to appear more relaxed and less reserved during job interviews?

european333I tend to get stressed during job interviews. Nothing out of normal I guess, but I've received feedback from interviewers that I seemed quite reserved and they didn't like it. It was a justification of why they didn't want to hire me. I do smile, try to speak with confidence and keep the eye con...

Q: Is this an example of objectification?

PawelHere is the scenario: A man and a woman meet at a conference. During a small talk, the man says "I will try to determine the sport you played by looking at your body type." Then he backs up, looks at the woman from the top to the bottom and says "you probably played tennis." After the event, th...

Q: UK: what would be a good gift for a male neighbour on his 60th birthday?

AnonymousApologies if it's a silly question but I am from a different country and therefore culture and so would be keen to learn about British gifts etiquette if there is one. In particular what would be a good gift for a nice middle-class guy living on the same street who kindly invited his neighbours...

@ExtrovertedMainMan Hmmm... there might very well be an etiquette for how much to spend on the gift, but I doubt that asking for advice on what to give is really IPS? :P

@dhein Hey! Long time no see! How are you?

1:50 PM
I would say great, if there wasnt the fact that I still have no new job. Thats also why I wasnt around here. Being unemployed leading to diferent sorts of trouble, making me not to have handle professional tasks I would look up on workplace or SO and hence also not really spent time on the other platforms. But the hint peufeu gave me back then when I asked about the trouble with my coworker actually influenced my professional aims and I'm for like 4 months now in their autism at work and position application process and just had this week an interview at SAP for a position in the software s
@Tinkeringbell: pinnnng! :D

Wow :) That sounds like you're finally making some nice progress, I hope it works out! I'm quite busy too, I just switched projects. I'm now using Smallworld/Magik, I still need to get the hang of using Emacs and SVN instead of Eclipse and Git ;)

Although we're switching to Git very soon, yet I've spent two days on explaining it to various people... It's weird explaining stuff to someone that has 30 years more experience in programming ;)

2:08 PM
@Tinkeringbell: Yeah, their autism at work project peufeu made me aware of is awesome. I had 3 interviews so far and an get to know meeting with 2 of the autism team before that. And everyone at the company is so sensible for the topic autism and every recruiter I spoke with so far was noticeable aware of the aspects it might influence me. It was funny, since they even tryed to consider autism related problems I'm luckily not affected by. And... the recent recruiter even came up with an solution for my understanding of work assignments trouble. I think I'll just post it as answer to my que

Hey, that sounds great ;) I'm actually hoping they'll just put the part of the project I need on GitLab monday though, so I don't have to learn SVN :P
I really look forward to seeing you answer your own question, because then there'd be an answer coming from an actual 'professional'! The program sounds great, I do remember a few colleagues on the spectrum that also had someone to help them with getting a job and that they stayed in contact with after, and I must admit I sometimes was jealous :P

They had a new job within 2 months, while I spend 2 years trying to get an archaeology related job before switching to programming ;)

@Tinkeringbell: I see your point. I also have that one contact person from their autism at work team, which actually is with me and supporting me and up for answering me all the seemingly stupid aspie questions and trying to mediate between me and their recruiters, and I just started feeling so well, safe and cared for by them. And actually, I feel (I know its one sided xD) like not wanting to loose contact with him >.<
Well, have to leave now, getting visitors :D Was nice to have a chat with you again :) Hope to hang around more often soon again :)
Oh and it would be an opensource project I'd be working at.... I am a pasionate C developer maybe getting the opportunity to work on a security sector opensource project, that feels so right '^.^

@IntrovertedMetaMan. I'm thinking perhaps a "why does IPS have strict comment rules? Why isn't there room for leniency in this case? etc" canonical FAQ post would be a good idea

Q: Am I in depression?

545941st userAbout me: I'm a 19 (almost 20) years old guy. I'm currently studying at an university. I don't have good social skills, but somehow I was always able to get some friends - or rather they were able to "get my friendship" (honestly, I don't even know why was it good for them), for example, when I'v...

Q: Should I be involved in the moving conversation if I'm not buying the house?

Thomas MyronMy family is considering moving to another state. I'm 23, but I still live at home. My parents want me here, and I have no desire/reason to leave, so I've just stayed put. My family is having some difficulties choosing the house they want to buy. My mom and dad are prone to randomly have long c...
