@ArtOfCode @Mithrandir Thank you.

I quite like this question and I plan to write an answer... you guys don't think im spamming OP with too many comments do you? interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/13348/…

congratulations @Tinkeringbell , you made me come here as you were not pingable anywhere else ;)

@AnkitSharma You know you can superping people, right?

@Catija I was instructed not to ;)
Did any old mods left? Any meta about it?

No

Would conditioning your family and friends to expect a positive reply when they text you, and no reply when they call you be seen as negative manipulation? I want to give a reference as to why my solution of regularly responding positively to their texts would encourage them to text more ( its conditioning ) but the last time I used references like this I was accused of manipulation a whole bunch

Hehehehe! Ankit and I both had the same idea, I see ;)
Woot!! Congratulations @Tinkeringbell!! I can't ping you in The Screening Room anymore, so I had to come in here!
Congrats to @AJ as well!! But, I talk to him all of the time... :P
@AnkitSharma You know that there will be no living with AJ now that he is a smurf :P

3:31 AM
@Catija that's little weird, atleast a announcement post always got made

Not a new one... They were just added to the original one.

It looks like AJ and Tinkerbell were just added to the original mod announcement

@steelersquirrel we can banish him

Muahahahaha!!!

I have decided to not include the reference, it kind of distracts from the main point

4:06 AM
how do you add a tag in chat again?

4:24 AM
@Jesse [tag:flag-plz]

@AnkitSharma thanks
that answer is getting out of hand, OP edited to retaliate by swapping out the religious content for "god isn't permitted here"... we should not be fixing it, we should be deleting it asap

4:41 AM
@Tinkeringbell @AJ Congratualations for turning blue in chat!!

5:16 AM
Thanks everyone! @Rainbacon, yes, it was 9:30PM when I noticed the diamond was added, so just in time for sleep ;-)
Also, @AnkitSharma, @steelersquirrel and @NogShine thanks for popping in here ;-) It is much appreciated. I've been spending way too much time here, I'll try and visit Movies&TV a little more ;)

@Tinkeringbell You're welcome!! Don't be a stranger to Movies & TV! We like having you around :)

@steelersquirrel I won't ;) But I'll probably be spending the next few days getting up to speed as a moderator ;-)

@Tinkeringbell Oh, don't worry! I totally understand. Good luck :)

Q: How do I respond when someone says "Don't worry about it" to something I'm sorry about

insanityI was meant to buy travel tickets for somebody, but they all got sold out before I could. (There were reasons for them not being able to buy the tickets themselves. I was helping out.) Not being able to travel on those specific dates is a bit of an inconvenience to them, so I apologised. They sa...

5:51 AM
@Tinkeringbell else we have to drag you there forcefully ;)
Anyways I trust that you will be a good mod and if you need any mod related help feel free to ping.

Will do ;-)
Anyhow, now that two of the regular chatters in here have turned blue as well... Are there still any people left chatting that aren't a moderator in this room? :P

6:08 AM
morning
Also Gz @Tinkeringbell and @AJ
I take a hike for 3 days and suddenly I'm the only roomowner left here :o

@Magisch Thank you :) and yeah, I already miss my cursive name :P

On that note, I'll take my leave again for a while.

A J
@Magisch Danke :)

@Magisch Oh... well, hope to see you back soon!

I have other things to do with my time right now that yield a better result
And that aren't such a poor fit for my personality

6:12 AM
Hah.... Can I ask what you've been up to these last three days then? :) I'm curious what the 'new job' is about ;)

Working more
Also more time to play games and do stuff around the house and go outside
feel free to get a new RO

@Magisch Sounds good ;-) Take care of yourself! And pop in here from time to time, even if it's just to chat :D
@Magisch Technically, AJ and me are still RO's too ;-)

@Tinkeringbell Don't think I will tbh, it's not good for my state of mind

@Magisch Oh... So this is goodbye? :( Well, all the best for the rest of life then!

what is happening? where is everybody going? :'(

6:26 AM
@Cashbee I'm going nowhere, I'm now chained to this thing for life... It has my soul :P

ooh did you go diamond shopping? gz

Q: Any "learning by doing" interpersonal skills courses on the Internet?

iirekmProbably the best way of learning is active learning or learning by doing: you read or listen to about some topic and then do some excercises, which are then graded by a teacher, peer student or a computer. There are thousands of such courses on the Internet for subjects like computer programming...

@Tinkeringbell Not sure yet. Mith was right. I took this too seriously, and ended up annoying a lot of people that didn't deserve it. And it's not been a positive influence on my life either, so it's better to make a clean break. I'm not going to delete my account (yet) but maybe I might soon.
I'll sleep over it a week or so

@Magisch I wish you all the best

@Magisch That's a good start, also, just remember that as long as you didn't get suspended, you weren't bad enough ;) and don't take Mith too serious
That said, I hope you sleep well and wake up refreshed :)

6:39 AM
\o

@SurajRao \o

7:06 AM
@Tinkeringbell there are times to take me seriously, times to ignore me, and times that I'm overreacting

@Mithrandir :P Now if we could only build a clock around them :P

you can usually figure out by my tone, capitalization, punctuation, and (lack of) emoticons ;)

@Mithrandir Hahaha ;) I'd figure they all be pretty similar then? I mean, you can talk like you're serious and people should just ignore you because you're overreacting ;) :P
Especially in a chatroom

7:41 AM
Hi there!

@avazula hi!

waves

@Mithrandir See, I came back aha

Quick, time to post stuff that needs deletion

I already commented half a dozen answers and recommended their deletion, we have a serial-answerer user ahha

7:46 AM
I noticed.

yeah we all did

You're the flaggers of those answers?

maybe :)

I flagged 'em, yeah.

I was surprised because I got 3 in a row of the same dude, but I suppose there's not much people at that time of the day
Okay!

Does someone want to leave a comment suggesting backup here? interpersonal.stackexchange.com/a/13357/31

with pleasure
this user's gonna have 3600 comments of mine on his answers ahah

@avazula sorry i already did
auto comments are fast ;)

@Cashbee This is cheating ;)

@avazula feel free to start cheating too :) stackapps.com/questions/2116/…

@Cashbee I'm gonna save this page as my fav.

7:53 AM
you need to install the browser extension. Then you can alsways click 'auto' when commenting and select the desired comment :) if you have further questions ( i bet wou will), just ask

@Cashbee I did. This is magic. Thanks.
(How's that that I'm gonna ask you more questions? ahah)
I'm wandering on stackapps and I saw that they have developed a script based on machine learning which spots potential bad questions
That's awesome

I asked my question, feel free to yell at me about it

@avazula here are some autocomments for IPS, provided by Mithrandir. I think I tweaked some of them for my own use.

uhm
wrong link yes xD
is it a bird?
is it a plane?
no, it's superplane39!

8:08 AM
I'm superplane or superplane39 in a lot of places.

I'm not judging :P
finding a good nickname for the internets is hard
i really like superplane though xD

I came up with it when I was 5 and just stuck with it :P

Q: Is there a Russian etiquette on declining offers of food when visiting someone?

Arwen UndómielI'm 15 years old, living in Israel. Occasionally, I visit senior citizens on their birthdays - bringing balloons and stuff, with a few other people. These people who we visit are usually older Russians (there are a lot of Russian immigrants here). I, personally, am American, so there are three ...

@ExtrovertedMainMan y'all can yell at me about the things I forgot to mention now

@Mithrandir ... I should have guessed that was your sock account name...

8:18 AM
> , since these people are usually not observant.
I understood what you meant initially, but now you made it more confusing (to me). what do you mean with observant?
@Mithrandir

> ob·serv·ant
adjective
quick to notice things.
adhering strictly to the rules of a particular religion, especially Judaism.
@Mithrandir24601 that's not my sock, just a hidden account

adhering strictly to the rules of a particular religion, especially Judaism. - that's what I didn't know, thanks

@Mithrandir I vaguely remember a question about how to reject home cooked food because it might not be kosher, being asked on this site already.

If you could find it, that would be helpful, but that's not what I asked - that's simply the reason for me asking. My question is about Russian etiquette.

@Mithrandir I can't seem to dig it up.

8:23 AM
Not a big issue, then.

@sphennings it could be you remember Mithrandir asking that here in chat one or two weeks ago

@Cashbee That's a possibility.

@Mithrandir To me, it would be worth mentioning the 2nd definition just after the word observant, maybe in parenthesis, because I didn't know that definition but I'm glad I've learned a new word, so maybe other people are in my case?

I would second that suggestion

@Cashbee I'm sorry, what does "to second" mean?

8:34 AM
You've got edit privs ;) is trying to do something I've been procrastinating doing for a while
@avazula agree

Hmm, here, we'd tend to say 'religiously observant' for that

Oh hmm, I'm back over 1900 rep. Only another 30 and I'll regain all I've lost from downvoting answers in the past week or so.
@avazula Done

@Mithrandir @Mithrandir24601 you are different people, right?

Correct.

haha ok :)

8:54 AM
@Mithrandir no offense, but I think it's gonna be a difficult question to answer. I hope we have Russian/Isreali users on this SE, whether they're Jewish or not, but personnaly, I wouldn't dare offer an awser because it's strongly culturally-related to me
But if you do, I bet they're gonna be very interesting :)

Q: Why do we lose reputation when downvoting unappropriate answers?

avazulaI'm sorry if this has already been asked but I can't find similar questions, so I'm shooting in the dark here: I recently joined The Awkward Silence and was surprised about some recommended behaviors to adopt while reviewing on IPS. For instance, I used to comment on answers that didn't respect ...

Q: How to talk to family member about their spending?

PsirusMy grandparents have a caravan at the Baltic see where they basically spend all summer. This, in my view, is good for them. They get to be in nature, which should be good for their health, and they seem to have a more active social life there than at home, which is also good imho. Of course renti...

Q: How to approach social anxiety caused by traumatic social experience

stimulateI will try to make this as well of an answerable question as I can, because of course I know that this problem is way to complex to solve remotely. I am just looking for advice on how to act in my condition. I have a particular event that made me ask this question, which occurred yesterday: As s...

11:48 AM
While this certainly has some good advice, I'm not entirely sure that it answers the question as asked.

11:59 AM
@Mithrandir I think it does answer your question "An accepted way to do it without being offensive?"
which is not really a good sentence syntax btw
> I am giving you a gift, if your religion prevents you from eating it ... then explain as such. If you truly believe in your religion, then you should not fear explaining your beliefs as such.
this is the part that directly answers your question
it could be edited a bit to get the point across better, but it is understandable enough imo
@IPSCommentBot huh??? how is that punctuation unprofessional?

12:16 PM
@Cashbee but if the person giving the food thinks it is acceptable, only it's not, telling them that it isn't acceptable likely won't work - when it comes to contents of food, people often think they know what's in it, but are often wrong

@Mithrandir24601 I see what you mean. the answer lacks mentioning how to deal with the possible difference of observance.

@Cashbee it's the exclamation marks, I think.

my own 2 cents: use I-statements. say "I am not comfortable eating this food due to my beliefs". do not mention their belief.
@doppelgreener it must be. I am not an expert on english grammar, but both instances of exclamation marks seem totally fine to me, even for a professional email.

One school of thought is to avoid exclamation marks entirely in business writing when a full stop will do, because excitability is not seen as Properly Businesslike.
And in the event your writing gets read as yelling instead, which wouldn't apply here probably, that's not preferable either.

@doppelgreener I see, makes sense

12:29 PM
However, I should add two caveats.
First, this comes from the Western business world preferring to operate strictly on information, with emotion to be avoided. We are here to do transactional work and get things done. In our capacity as workers we shed a lot of casual interpersonal behaviours for formality.
Second, this is a relatively conservative school of thought, although the Western business world is also predominantly conservative anyway. The Weatern business world is fairly tied in with masculine behaviours, prioritising and preferring them. Part of that is frowning on emotional expressiveness other than anger.
For that reason saying exclamation marks belong to schoolgirls and not businesspeople kinda rubs me the wrong way.

never a day without learning :)
> It should generally only be used in spoken dialog, when someone is angry, excited, or frustrated. It should almost never be used in technical writing, or in narrative text.

> From personal experience it's improper to use "!" in any sort of formal email.

Q: Rebuffing a former friend's (now a convicted criminal) attempts to restore friendship

ScootsI used to have a friend who I would fairly regularly see - usually for lunch. A few details about this individual: Very quiet and shy Is a high-functioning autistic individual Socially awkward We fell out of touch a few years ago when he (very suddenly) lost his job and moved away, however h...

@doppelgreener I agree with you on this one - if I sent an e-mail involving a couple of relevant exclamation marks and the person I was e-mailing thought that it somehow "wasn't professional", I probably wouldn't be long in coming to the conclusion that I wouldn't want to work for them

is pointing out non-professionalism professional?

@Cashbee no idea :P it just makes me think of old-school 'grey cubicle' office work, which generally isn't very conducive to either productivity, creativity, or mental wellbeing. People naturally express themselves, so trying to block that just sounds like a bad idea essentially
I mean, there are times when exclamation marks are inappropriate or irrelevant, but I'm referring to a blanket 'never use them'

@Cashbee I'm kinda slightly sleep deprived, I'm not surprised if I sound a little weird
@IPSCommentBot this needs to go away

@Cashbee It depends. If you're a manager talking to a subordinate, then it's part of your job. But if I'm in sales and I point out the unprofessionalism of a client I'm being incredibly unprofessional.

1:03 PM
Maybe I'm just ranting that the concept of 'professionalism' is bad?

A J

@Mithrandir24601 the concept of professionalism is very helpful -- it defines a set of norms that make for a constructive workplace, as well as anti-norms which are definitely not acceptable -- but what norms and anti-norms belong in that package may individually have issues and need examination.

@doppelgreener ah, fair enough - I'll take your word for it

Is it worth doing an edit to a post to add a tag for some information that's mentioned in the post? The specific post I'm thinking of mentions a person who is autistic and I was thinking of adding

@Cashbee Your comment might leave the impression that you should not commenting what you dislike in an answer ever, even when downvoting. But especially when downvoting it's important to comment, otherwise the author has no chance knowing why the downvote and what could be improved. — BlackJack 1 min ago

I did the edit, but I'd still be interested in what the best practice in this situation is.

@Rainbacon usually, small edits like this are ok, as long as you don't make 10 subsequent small edits. Before confirming the edit, look if there is something else that you could change in the same edit.
I cannot back that up with metas, this is my personal stance on this

@Rainbacon It's good. If it's mentioned in the question, we have a tag for it, and it doesn't take up the place of more relevant tags, feel free to add one. We've had a spot of trouble with tags like harassment or bullying though: If not mentioned, don't add it. Don't go saying 'this is harassment' by adding a tag on it.
Also, always keep in mind that edits will bump questions to the front page, so editing very old questions just for a tag might be a little overkill

@IPSCommentBot anyone want to jump in here or should I?
or just disengage?

BlackJack has a little point ;) If you downvote AND there's something that can be improved, comment. If there's only disagreement stated though... What improvement to an answer is saying 'I disagree with throwing stuff away' suggesting?
@Rainbacon That thing about tags isn't officially on meta. But here's one answer I wrote on a question where I saw some of that trouble I described earlier, on adding tags when it isn't mentioned in the Q: interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/a/1999/1599
@Cashbee I'd leave it for now though ;)
If you are going to respond, I always find this a very good meta to link to on how to express what can be improved in a post, instead of just what's wrong with it ;)

@Tinkeringbell exactly, his first sentence is correct. But i will listen to the new authority and will disengage :)

@Cashbee Just take the time to think of a very well written reply ;-)

Huh, that new answer I got is interesting.
I've definitely noticed that they're insistent ;)

@BlackJack That's not the case. Comments are for leaving constructive criticism that guides the user in improving the post, usually meaning requests for clarification or actionable suggestions for improvement. They are explicitly not for tangential discussion or debating a controversial point on the answer. Many wish for comments alongside downvotes, but very often the only comment that can be given is along the lines of "I disagree with X" and there is nothing to do about that, and it is prone to starting arguments. — doppelgreener 39 secs ago
In this case, the conversation above is chatty. It's debating a fine point on the answer, and it's not actionable or constructive. I'm flagging it for removal. — doppelgreener 9 secs ago
@Tinkeringbell Blackjack may have a point, but the whole "leave comments with downvotes!" is a road to hell paved with good intentions that gets debunked and refuted a lot.

oi greener you were 1 minute faster :(

so although they have a point... it is a point that is not, ultimately, the point we should follow on SE
because of exactly what you said: nothing's actually being suggested there :P but they seem to advocate for comments with downvotes even when nothing can be suggested
@Cashbee muahahaha

1:55 PM
@doppelgreener So you're saying I'm both wrong and right...? That's a nice way to confuse me :P

[rereads]
i 100% agree they have a little point :D
i disagree they have a point beyond a little point, hahaha
but that might not have been what you were saying
i missed the word 'little' entirely when reading your message

Nope, little point ;-) Not a whole point ;-)
Okay, then it looks like I'm okay here :P

@IPSCommentBot ...what
Why the heck was that delayed so much?

@Mithrandir such a long string to regex :D

Idea for a new regex @Mithrandir? Exclude stuff with links to meta from being chatty?

@Tinkeringbell ok! i have this ice cream here. i am sure i can mail some to everyone.

Could probably do that, have to dig up the "does not contain" regex again

2:05 PM

@doppelgreener I'll have vanilla please

We always eat these... they mail very well :P

1 scoop per envelope

@doppelgreener yay!

@Tinkeringbell remind me when I'm at my laptop again, 'cause this means deleting and readding pretty much all chatty ones

2:07 PM
@doppelgreener can you mail some to my office? It's 28°C out there :O

@Mithrandir Ack! That sounds like a lot of work ;) I'll just drop a reminder in the closet and pin it :P

@avazula yes! i cannot make promises about the conditions it will arrive in though

@doppelgreener that way to scoop triggers me, good thing i dont have ocd

@avazula 29° here

@Cashbee same. D: what kind of crazy person scoops diagonally across neopolitan

2:09 PM
@Cashbee Why? It's supposed to be like that! So you get as much icecream as possible (diagonals are longer than horizontals) and all the flavors too!

I'm quite jealous of those of you living where it's 28 or 29 degrees

Googling for 'temperatuur' gives 28 degrees C here too :D

@Tinkeringbell yuk, all the flavors >.<

@Rainbacon Are you living in that part of the world that still get's blizzards?

he probably has 28 or 29 degree fahrenheit
or kelvin xD

2:11 PM
@Cashbee It's about 45 fahrenheit here (8 C)

I think Newton had a scale too? Where 33 was boiling water :P

@Tinkeringbell I'm not getting blizzards, but other parts of the US are

:( And I just spend my first evening out on a terrace yesterday, without even having to wear a sweater at the end! I hope you'll get spring soon too :)

@Rainbacon Actually it's 28 inside the office, which is quite less nice than 28 outside haha
Oh, nevermind, Google says it's 27C out there

We had spring last Saturday. It was 75 F here. Then it got cold again

2:13 PM
@Rainbacon 'getting cold again' here means the temperature is predicted to drop back to 18C over the weekend ;-)

I was wearing short sleeves and no jacket
I wish that's what getting cold again meant
Over Saturday night it dropped from 27C to 8C

shiver

I had to go back to wearing sweaters
Fortunately I like sweaters
They are by far the most comfortable clothing that also look nice

That's definitely true :) I'm lucky I guess, I can almost always wear sweaters...
I don't overheat that easily.

In the summer it gets up to around 32C here. I can't wear a sweater in that kind of heat.

2:23 PM
That comment thread looking a mite nicer now. Thanks to anyone/whoever attended. Can't stop, but for the record its about 17 degrees C in Inverness this afternoon, which is warm enough for us Northern Scots. (27 in the office though which is oddly making the place smell of paperclips...

@Spagirl Now I'm curious! I've never smelled a paperclip :D
@Rainbacon I said almost always... cut-off is about 25 degrees, although often if you go inside it will be cooler, so I always have one on standby ;-)

don't be complaining about the weather now guys, remember the super cold week 2 months ago?
in europe, that was

@Cashbee So what? I'm pretty sure we complained about that too :P
And we have to treat all things equally! :D

hahaha seems fair
we don't want to be weather-racists

@Tinkeringbell That's a good plan. I just drink warm things like coffee and tea if I go indoors and it's too cold

2:29 PM
@Rainbacon Yeah... that doesn't really help if 'indoors' mostly means 'office' which means constant cold airflow ;)

I drink warm water all day when I'm at work

@Rainbacon I never understood that... warm? or hot, like for tea? I get an upset stomach if I drink warm water, I never tried hot because that's usually converted into tea first.

It has a nice side effect that I drink more water than I normally would, which is good because I don't drink enough water normally
Not quite as hot as I would do for tea, but probably hotter than warm
When I fill up my water bottle I do about 75% from the hot water and 25% from the cold water

@Rainbacon Yeah, we should really make that the universal scale of temperature measuring. Would be much easier than using C or F or K or or or... /sarcasm :P
But I get it ;)

@Rainbacon I think it's generally recommended not to drink hot water from the tap
Copper pipes or something like that

2:35 PM
@Mithrandir It's not from the tap, my office has a water machine that filters it and heats it for us.

@Mithrandir can you elaborate on that?

@Rainbacon ah, good
@Cashbee things dissolve in hot water more easily, and so stuff gets into it while traveling through the pipes

@Mithrandir Although, I didn't grow up in a city, so our tap water wasn't filtered at all. So I'm used to water with a bunch of stuff in it.

My town's municipal tap water was literally bottled and sold, but recently the bottling company kicked the town off the spring and took over the whole thing

That's interesting
How does your town get its tap water now?

2:42 PM
My preferred method: I freeze left-over hot water so I just have to heat it up and BAM - hot water

switched to a different spring

@Cashbee Freeze hotdog water into ice-cubes for guests that you don't like :P

hotdog water? is that a thing now?

It is if you boil your hotdogs

@Tinkeringbell that's evil. I love it.

2:45 PM
Because they'll only eat the tide pods if they are under the age of 22

@Mithrandir That also comes straight from the internet, not my imagination sadly :P

A J
@Cashbee Oh. It is quite easy here. You will always get hot water from April to September at 10 am without spending any electricity. ;)

Sid
2:57 PM
@AJ you have to use geysers to get hot water, no?

A J
@Sid No, we don't have to. See "without spending any electricity"
I think you didn't get the joke. :P

@AJ most probably... :/

Q: How to be firm on what I need without causing offense?

user16947At least once a week, I have to get blood drawn to comply with a treatment regimen. I don't have a problem with this. I'm not afraid of needles. The trouble is that I can't always have the same person draw me. Someone who has worked with me before knows that using the smallest needle is most ef...

@AJ Oh, duh...

And some delete votes for those of you with that ability

@Mithrandir essentially, it is not a health risk but tapping cold water and heating it up does indeed have its advantages

@Rainbacon I think it's gonna disappear soon, it lacks only one vote
Can someone explain to me the changes that seemed to happen yesterday? Some new mods were elected? How's that that @Mithrandir is in blue but isn't mod on IPS? Did you become a chat-mod, if that exists?

I agree that it's direct and leaves little room for misunderstanding here. However, I'm not sure this would ensure the continuity of the friendship. — avazula 1 min ago

5 of the 6 newest questions are good. Way to go, IPS!

@avazula Mith has been a mod for a while now... has nothing to do with IPS.

@avazula Tinkeringbell and AJ were both selected by the CMs as new pro-tem mods. And all SE sites share the same chat server (except for maybe SO?) so if you are a mod on any site you show up blue in all chat rooms.

SO and MSE have their own chat servers.

@Rainbacon Ok, that's the explanation that I've missed! Thanks :)
And congrats to the new mods!

I think that either option would cost OP a friend. If that wasn't agreed upon at the start of the arrangement, I'd feel like I'm being taken advantage of and given the choice of "either pay me money you didn't agree to pay or give me the records I agreed to hold" — baldPrussian 57 secs ago

@Tinkeringbell Yet another congratulations message for becoming a mod. (Please ignore.)
By the way, how is the QPD statistic on Area 51 calculated? Is it based on the entire life of the site, the past year, the past month...what is it based on, and what's counted towards it?

@gparyani I don't know about Area51, but I found this? It says last two weeks... meta.stackexchange.com/q/200252/369802

past two weeks, it says if you hover

Should be excluding deleted questions but I think it includes closed ones, I can try and check...

Btw, @Cascabel I read your comment on my meta post, and am now looking for ways to express myself :P I'll get back to you on that, good point

That's interesting, because our rate for the past 2 weeks is 5.8 QPD and our total over the course of the beta is 5.89 QPD

thanks :)

We've had a total of 1739 questions over 295 days of beta

The mods do have access to analytics, they might be willing to share some things if there's something specific you're interested in.

@Cashbee cool
@avazula I prefer to say "condolences"

@Mithrandir Ahaha! Being a mod is a supplementary reason to be pinged by unsatisfied users
