this is apparently one very unpopular opinion, together with the meta I wrote asking about how to encourage people to actually back up their answers...

You either need to lie to people, or present the truth in a humorous manner.
@Tinkeringbell I'd like to present an argument to get the "be nice" policy enforced. Either it's being ignored or misunderstood

@RichardU humor isn't the only way to do it though... it requires a lot of writing skills, and proofreading, but I think I'm back on a meta roll and am actually getting better at being neutral in my posts.

The be nice policy isn't something to beat people over the head with, nor is one person breaking it a reason to take the gloves off and go for a bareknuckle beatdown.

@RichardU I know... but what would you suggest we change? Aside from a few problems, most of them are caused by people that don't regularly visit chat or meta. How are we supposed to reach them? I think the people in here did a wonderful job yesterday of flagging stuff, and making edits...
And I can assure you that even regulars get chastised, I got my first chat suspension this week :P (please tell me you're proud of the student? :P )

@Tinkeringbell I'll think on that. TWP is pretty tight and we got control of a few people that were on the nasty side rather quickly. I think you'll find that most of the trouble comes from low-rep drivebyes
@Tinkeringbell :D "A man about to tell the truth should keep one foot in the stirrup"

@RichardU See, I'm not perfect either... :P Did I ever mention the edit history of my first question?

The thing to do here is to keep it from getting a worse reputation.
@Tinkeringbell no, what happened?

@RichardU Take a look yourselves ;) interpersonal.stackexchange.com/questions/775/…
I'll think you'll be most interested in revision 1-4

Yeah, that sat as well as my first on TWP/ it got closed
I got it reopened though, FWIW

@RichardU Nice :)
I think when I wrote my question, there weren't even enough people around to close-vote it quickly :P

@Pheo I'm kinda busy making my own stuff :)

Ohh nice. Is that a flower or what? I've never crocheted

It's sort-of, it's going to be the central 'flower' of a square... I'm making a blanket: itsallinanutshell.com/2017/02/25/nuts-about-squares-cal-2017
I want it finished before mother's day

What is Mother's day?

@Sid A day to celebrate all your mother does for you?
Pretty commercial, but mine deserves some extra appreciation sometimes ;)

@u_r_grounded also, I would like to ask you, imagine you are me, here reading just out of curiosity and trying to understand, you see baldPrussian answer, without edits (it doesn't show like it has been edited), and you ask the OP to clarify what that he/she mean by them and the OP tells you besides clarifying the answer was edited that he/she is tired of "The general braying of the great unwashed masses, along with all the hypersensitivity, deflection and gaslighting has pretty much confirmed what I had thought was only true of public fora like YouTube etc". How would you feel? — Mykazuki 19 secs ago

Sid
@Tinkeringbell aren't you supposed to be doing that anyway?

@Sid Yeah, sure... And I do ;) But having a 'special day' makes stuff somewhat easier to coordinate, like, all the family goes and visit grandma. They all know they have to keep that day free of other plans, because it's time to visit grandma ;)

Sid
Ah, right, you have a grandma? That's cool. Grandmas are great.

@Sid My grandmas are crazy

Sid
7:49 PM
But, yeah. That's a fair point since everyone would make themselves free...

@Sid Also, it sells cards, chocolate, alcohol, beauty-stuff... ;) Like I said, it's very commercial nowadays, although that's not how it started: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother%27s_Day

@Sid it was a like Father's day, but on much less grizzly circumstances.
the Monongah Mining Disaster in nearby Monongah killed 361 men, 250 of them fathers in 1907
pastor Robert Thomas Webb honor all those fathers and that became the first father's day.
The mothers didn't have to die to get their day though

Q: How can I tactfully ask someone to reread an email?

Canada - Area 51 ProposalSuppose that the recipient overlooked or misunderstood (part of) a short, truly succinct email because he didn't read carefully, not because the sender flubbed anything (like bad writing). The email is so readable that any repeating or rephrasing in a new email is redunant.

Q: How to act in a job interview when waiting answers from another?

LiooI'm currently sending job applyances to some companies. Yesterday I had in a interview from one; it was nice and I think I have chances. They said that they'll be giving an answer next week. The question is: I was called to another job interview on next Monday, and I don't exactly know how to a...

The LQP queue could use some eyes.

I have eyes. Do you?
Of course you do.
What kind of eyes are you looking for?

user15026
Presumably, anyone who has access to the queue, to help process things.

LQP is which site?

user15026
I don't have access to that queue yet :(

user15026
It's not a site

user15026
9:42 PM
it's the Low Quality Posts queue

Ahh. Well, I don't think I have access to that either.

You need 1,000 reputation on beta sites to access the Low Quality Posts queue.

And on full production sites?

2,000.

So it would only take me about half as long to get there? Dang.

Hey, thanks for the answer! Can you please explain exactly why you think that this is a good idea? Why do you say to take this course of action? What’s the thought process behind this answer? As this currently stands, this is essentially a “Try this!” answer. We require that answers provide some sort of explanation for why they are suggesting this solution, and unfortunately, at the moment this answer doesn't appear to do that. — Arwen Undómiel 1 min ago

Now I remember why I hadn't added that to the regexes before.

I gave a +1 to OPs first comment on the answer but I actually think it should be edited in the question itself (except for the 'There is nothing we could do') so the question might get more meaningful answers because all of the answers so far amount to "We know people will probably saying that it's not our business, that we just have to look elsewhere...'' — GretchenV 1 min ago

Q: How to minimize embarrassment when I ask a question but they nod and smile

scohe001Background I work with a LOT of non-native English speakers. As such, miscommunications are a daily occurrence. However, I've noticed that sometimes when they don't understand something, they'll just nod and smile, or smile and say "yeah." Whether this happens because they deem the act of asking...

@Mithrandir there ya go, I lent mine for a while

@Mithrandir I'll check on it when I get home. Apparently you can't access review queues on mobile

Q: How can I tactfully approach not wanting to read someone's unpublished/self-published book?

AshA lot of people who know me know I like to read, I read a lot of different things, and I read quickly. I also like to post about what I read on Twitter or my Goodreads profile. The problem is, people seem to mistake my ability to read quickly and the fact that I have read things in a number of ...

I am so not used to the sort of iterative editing you need to do with IPS posts.

user15026
I'm so used to Arqade where it's simpler - need to do x in game y, how do?

11:57 PM
@Ash your question looks OK to me.
