Snow here is finally melting. Trains still aren't running though, and this morning I could ice skate to the station across the road... it was slippery!
@TheTinyMan Remote working on Monday and yesterday, train today. That's why I was home half a hour late :P

@Tinkeringbell That's a neat idea though, haha. I've tried ice skating like three times...for some reason my ankles are in agony when I do that in no time at all. I can't decide if I've been fitting my shoes wrong or if ice skating is simply not meant for people as massive as I am. :-p
@Tinkeringbell Well I wore whatever the heck the ice skating rink rented out, in terms of 'kind of skates.' I think they offered speed skates and another kind and I took the other kind? I might be completely misremembering that though.

@TheTinyMan but I'm guessing your ankles hurt because the skates you rented were from some hard plastic with a supposedly soft inner boot. That's not nice.
@Mithrandir24601 I always preferred roller blades to ice skates. Firstly because I could always accelerate, but never slow down or make rapid turns, so wheels were safer than knife edges

@TheTinyMan I know - it's crazy. I used to do a fair bit of work both east and west coast US, as well as trips as far east as Dubai, Singapore and Australia meant a lot of trying to sort out my body clock. But the flying back and forth did eventually make me mostly immune to jetlag
I don't personally think that it is too broad, I think I understand what's being asked. :-p But I can understand how some people would want more explicit clarification.

@Tinkeringbell It's started coming up in American politics as a word that conservatives use to insult liberals' sensibilities...and after a year or so of that, liberals often started throwing it back when a conservative's sensibility is offended. The "special" is usually omitted these days.
Oh, the phrase also has a meaning over here in a non-pejorative context, basically meaning "someone who is special and unique." Usually implies an element of childlikeness, I think, which is how it evolved into a pejorative.

I dunno, "someone who treats people as purse puppies" sounded a lot more like a personal attack to me than literally quoting your starred message. And before that, he was having an individual conversation with an administrator - he had a target, and that target is not only armored but armed.
I don't really know how to explain this, but let me try. The convo is still there. It was between the mod and the user until you interjected.
That gave that user (that was already in a bad mood, mind you!) a target to focus their anger on. If you hadn't stepped in like that, HDE would have been able to handle things just fine. See how he keeps trying to steer the convo back to the topic HDE wanted to discuss with the user?

I've only ever roller skated, and I have a brake pad on roller skates! I have an ex who did roller derby, she told me that as someone who hadn't skated since childhood I was really good at it xD
I've also always wondered...like, there are visible cuts in the ice. How do ice skates handle having a non-smooth surface? Wouldn't it be bumpy? :o My understanding of the physics involved is insufficient!
