Q: Animated series about 3 kids and powered animals in a jungle

IsabelleI dont really remember it but I'll say what I vaguely do. Basically I think there were 3 kids and there was like this lab where there were 3 tubes that they stepped into and like their scientist/backup guys who provided intel in the lab would click a button or something and the tube would close a...

Q: scifi fantasy novel where a girl is going to a different universe when she sleeps

Lunarseas I believe I read this book maybe 9-11 years ago. It’s about this girl who is going to a different universe or parallel universe while she sleeps. She ends up communicating with this guy through her mind and basically they start getting close. There’s a part where she’s in a control room and I don...

Q: Sci-Fi short animation - Heist, robot unlocks door by kissing it

jacobandgeckosI watched an animated short-film on YouTube about some sort of heist (under 10 minutes). I think it was either someone's personal project, or maybe an animation school project. It's in a Sci-Fi setting, maybe on a space station, or at least in some sort of building a ship could dock in. It star...

Q: Difference between Discovery and Discovery II capabilities

MichaelIn 2001: A Space Oddyssey, the Discovery mission is a one way trip. After the exploration phase, the astronauts will enter hibernation until rescued by Discovery II. As the hibernation period will be longer than the return to Earth, the implication is that it is a lack of propellant that prevents...

Q: Have any of the stories in 'Expedition to Earth' been made into films?

EiliaI read Arthur C. Clarke's Expedition to Earth when I was in elementary school although I struggled to understand it, it made a strong impression on me and I hope to find a good time to read it again. I'm curious to know if any movies have been created based on the stories in this book.

11:22
@LogicDictates To definitively answer this, in episode 9, it's explained that dragons exist in the world (which have magic/mana) and ML has a vial of dragon tears important to the plot.
I'm not sure if that's the first mention of magic, but it's not unheard of for some series to only reveal their fantasy elements several episodes in
11:51
@Laurel That settles this specific instance then, but I'm still curious about the general principle of what our attitude should be towards story-ID answers where the answer does not appear to include any sci-fi or fantasy elements.

A: story Identification for non Sci-Fi or fantasy theme?

FuzzyBootsPlaying Devil's Advocate, if it's ambiguously SF&F, it might do alright. I've had a few ID questions like that, where I could not remember whether there were actually fantasy elements to the story, or if people just thought that they were in-story. For example, Children's book about a girl maybe ...

That's the one discussion I've found on meta related to this
@Laurel Thanks for looking.

Q: Is a story identification question on-topic if it doesn't include genre defining elements?

AshI have several times seen people have an issue when asking story identification questions, simply put the details they remember from the story don't make the genre plain to those reading the question, i.e. they don't remember any clearly fantastical elements of the tale. Now I don't always know w...

@LogicDictates Very Low Quality should never be used for incorrect answers.
15:24
@AncientSwordRage I know that. I didn't consider flagging that answer as low quality on the basis of it being incorrect. I believe it likely is the correct answer. I considered flagging it for deletion on the basis of it being an off-topic answer (i.e. not related to science fiction or fantasy), which if correct, would demonstrate that the question it self was also off-topic.

Q: What is the significance of the last scene in 2061: Odyssey Three

Michael StachowskySpoilers I suppose: in the last scene of the book, I know that the books in the series are only loosely related, but it seems that this is never explored in 3001 and in 2010 So what was that particular part supposed to imply?

16:31
@Marvin Whoever was in charge of continuity messed up? :D
@LogicDictates you did good to not flag it that way then. But it being an 'off topic answer' isn't really a flagable offense, you can just DV, cast a delete vote and move on.

Q: Why is "Droxine" a name appropriate for someone beautiful and pleasant?

msh210In Star Trek, season 3, episode 21, "The Cloud Minders", Spock is considering his surroundings at the time, and one of its residents: Here on Stratos, everything is incomparably beautiful and pleasant: the high advisor's charming daughter, Droxine, particularly so. Q: Children are being born with psychic powers, leaving the adults behind

Daniel WilliamsLooking for the title of a book or story where children are being born with psychic powers, leaving the adults behind. I read it probably around 1990 so it was before then. The gist was that the kids were evolving quickly and leaving.

A: Children are being born with psychic powers, leaving the adults behind

Jon BCould it be Childhood's End, by Arthur C. Clarke? As Rashaverak explains, the time of humanity as a race composed of single individuals with a concrete identity is coming to an end. The children's minds reach into each other and merge into a single vast group consciousness. If the Pacific were t...

^ I suspect that this one isn't actually Childhood's end, but a different story, but it's hard to be sure from the question

@b_jonas ehh, More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon
