Q: What is Hup singing in jail?

AncientSwordRageHup singing in jail was one of my favourite scenes from the Age of Resistance series (episode 4). I'm learning what I can about the podling language, and as such I'd like to know what the song translates to (assuming that it does have a translation). Given that J.M. Lee created a whole language f...

Q: Looking for a short story that was written about a future where most people live in perpetual adolescence except one person who reaches maturity

Eric ShotwellLooking for a short story about a future time when all people live in perpetual adolescence, except for one boy who ages into maturity. The final line of the story is something like “for you are a goddess and I am a man.”

Q: Was the caucus race filmed for the 1985 Alice in Wonderland miniseries?

BuzzIn December 1985, CBS broadcast a two-night miniseries version of Alice in Wonderland, produced by Irwin Allen. I remember watching it at the time (although not live; it was actually the first program my family recorded with our new VCR). In total, it was three hours long, and I liked that it i...

Q: What do you think C-3PO is working on in the beginning of this video?

MaxThis awesome PSA from the 70’s is super cool to watch. I love the retro-feel of all the electronics in the room and it kinda makes me think of Andor. It’s driving me crazy but I can’t figure out what C-3PO is working on in the beginning. It’s a strange looking device and makes a bubbling sound. W...

@Marvin How does something like this get upvoted?
@Marvin That's what a good story-ID question looks like.
@Marvin Even this got upvoted once.

@Randal'Thor vague and hard to search but at least has multiple specific details probably enough for an identification, rather than just generic things that happen in most animes
so it's better than some story-id questions that we get
@Randal'Thor yes it is.
@Randal'Thor yes, that one I don't understand what it gets upvoted for
bwahahahah scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/268010/… “Hi, welcome to SF&F. Where and when did you read this?” “It was awhile ago”
it's funny because it's on SE, not in my job, so I don't have to deal with it

@b_jonas As a reviewer, my job ends when I give them advice on improving their question. If they can't, or won't, follow it that's their problem, not mine.
@Randal'Thor Did you intend to put links in those three cooments at Marvin?
@Spencer No, they're link-replies so the little arrow on the left already links to the onebox to show which posts I mean.
It seems that any ID question, even off-topic, will collect a few upvotes. I don't really understand why.
@Randal'Thor OK, not familiar with this technique.
Sometimes a crappy question will attract additional upvotes after it goes negative, as though some people were voting out of pity.
14:45
@Randal'Thor On a phone, you have to know those controls are there plus it's in a tiny area of the screen.
Mm, I've heard that chat is pretty crappy on a phone.
It's actually necessary to zoom in and click on the blank space to the left of a chat comment.
But frankly, the full-browser version is still better than the "mobile friendly" version was.
@Spencer Yep, that's how it works on a computer too, but it's clearer here because the blank space turns into a little arrow on mouseover.
Mouseover of anywhere in the chat message, actually, not only mouseover of the blank space itself.
@Spencer That's odd; I see an arrow on all replies. No need to poke it (mobile) or mouse over (computer) to make it appear.
The contrast is low, admittedly, but it's there.
15:04
I assumed Spencer meant the zooming in and clicking is necessary to actually link-reply to something, not just to see that something is a link-reply.

Q: What is the true nature of shields in Star Trek?

Sovereign InquiryMemory Alpha says that deflector shields are based on an intense concentration of graviton particles around an object. This suggests that (deflector) shields are gravitational in nature. This, however, goes against the more common concept of shields, which is that they are based on a wall or fiel...

Q: How should I phrase my question to avoid getting it closed immediately?

Sovereign InquiryI asked this question very recently. It seems that people are confused as to whether I'm asking about science fiction or real life--but even before anyone answered the question, I had two close votes. Only one person gave a vague explanation as to why the question was being closed. Now I have fou...

A.SteerI am aware of the Batman as a Inmate of Arkham fan theory, sometimes called the Villain fan theory or Bruce Wayne crazy theory, has been around for around 10 years.
