Q: Is Gandalf the White as old as Gandalf the Grey? Did he gain a new physical form or just wore different clothes?

AdithAfter his fight with the Balrog, Gandalf died, or so it is told. Because he was one of the Istari, he came back. Did he have a new physical form or was it the old Gandalf we know and love? Did his age become 1 again from 54960 or something?

Q: What is the CGI show I'm thinking of that seems eerily similar to the Voltron episode of Rick and Morty?

toroidRecently, I remembered that as a child in the 90s, I watched a CGI show that revolved around a team of pilots that controlled some kind of animal robots. @Tetrawoman I think you can try it on Literature. Mods of that stack can be found in our chat; please join chat to discuss migration. — SQB 28 secs ago
@SQB eh? I know they use a broad scope on Lit, but an anime seems off topic to me?
SQB
SQB
I once caught that any story is okay. I think that was in connection to some BD, if they're okay with that, why not Manga?
Oh. I may have overlooked that this is Anime.
Aye this is anime not manga
I'm pretty sure manga would be on topic though :)
SQB
SQB
Is @Randal'Thor, @Mithical, or @Gallifreyan in?
Hello @Tetrawoman.
Welcome to chat.
SQB
SQB
As you can read above, I missed that it was anime, not manga.
I'm not sure if it's on topic for Literature.
08:04
then where should I ask?
SQB
SQB
I know that Anime & Manga doesn't do ID requests, neither does Movies & TV.
Off Stack, you could try Reddit.
kinda forgot that one thx
SQB
SQB
I know there are several subreddits dedicated to identifying all sorts of things.
I'll post it there
thx
@SQB mm?
08:06
sorry for bothering the mods I totally forgot this was scifi-fiction website
ok, thx again and have a wonderful day
SQB
SQB
I think just plain r/anime.
@Mithical whether id'ing anime would be on topic for Lit.
Yeah, anime would be off-topic there. Manga would be fine, though.
SQB
SQB
But I had somehow remembered manga from the question instead of anime.
@Tetrawoman scifi and fantasy. If there are any fantastical elements, it's on topic here.
the more I try to remember this one thou the more I'm convinced it wasnt an anime but a drawn one
so where I look for tv shows or drawn series that arent anime
SQB
SQB
If it's manga, it's on topic for Literature.
08:10
no, not japaniese
SQB
SQB
Ah, so still animation but not anime.
Hmm. Still not anywhere on the SE network, unfortunately.
SQB
SQB
I still think a dedicated identification stack might be a good idea.

Q: In Mimic (about giant insects that evolved to resemble men) -- the story and/or the movie, any indications that the insects are intelligent?

For now, I've included it in this tag.

@TheLethalCarrot yeah, I see it. That's weird, I didn't get any warning.

@Mithical O, darn.
Anyway, I've cleaned up my "fix your own http to https posts" query a bit. It now counts the distinct domains and shows you what they are.
This allows you to check if fixing it is possible.
If you encounter unfixable domains (i.e. domains without https), please let me know so I can expand the original query.
@SQB Hey, it's fine. I have a VPN :P
SQB
SQB
I have Opera, that has one built in.
@SQB Can you combine in and like? That way you might be able to paramterise it?
SQB
SQB
@TheLethalCarrot wdym? A list of domains to ignore?
SQB
SQB
11:05
Might be doable, since I'm extracting the domain, so I don't need the LIKE anymore.
So you'd do something like not like in (##domainstoignore##) and then that would be %isfdb.org%, '%accio-quote.org%' etc.
No idea if it's possible though
SQB
SQB
That would need either an array as a parameter, or a string containing a comma separated list that needs to be turned into a proper list. Should be doable.
I've a feeling the possibility of subdomains is going to do me in, though.
I could create a temp table containing the domains, though, then LEFT JOIN LIKE on that and only retain the records that haven't joined.
Doesn't need to be a tmp table, just a CTE.
SQB
SQB
Good idea to have it as a list.
Still 182 for you, TLC.
@Mith has been a lot cleaner, only 30 for them.
And 238 for @AncientSwordRage.
We should probably create a meta post with the different queries people can use to clean up the site instead of keeping them scattered in chat.
SQB
SQB
@Mithical good point.
Current winner is @Rand with 375.
Where is Rand? That didn't even autocomplete.
Only 29 for @DavidW, by the way.
@Randal'Thor WHERE ARE YOU!!!?

@SQB Since one of mine is a SFF meta link from before the https change, I'll call us even :p
@SQB that's... many
@SQB I've not been fixing mine yet, been a tad busy lately
SQB
SQB
@AncientSwordRage a lot of them are Wikipedia and Wikia.
Damn! I had backordered The Future We Wish We Had from Dutch Amazon, but it's been cancelled due to lack of availability.
So now it's The Future We Wish We Had I Wish I Had.
@SQB yes! I noticed that... didn't they all get updated at some point?
I am summoned?

@AncientSwordRage See the discussion around here:

@AncientSwordRage what's the exact domain?

@SQB sidekickcomicsuk.com, but it looks like it no longer exists
then it should be swapped to archive links, if possible

SQB
@AncientSwordRage Ah. That's a different problem.

Q: Do we want a custom close reason for the Future Works Policy? Revisited

Rand al'ThorBackground This site has a long-standing policy that questions about future works should be closed: if a question is asking specifically about a book/film/episode/comic/etc. that has not yet been released, the question should be closed at least until the release date, to prevent purely speculativ...

@DavidW It is used more but it's arguably less useful. In general if you were using the "catch all" close reason before a comment alongside it would be preferable. All removing that close reason does is combine the 2 steps
I'm just saying that I somehow read past the fact that "not SF/F" would be disappearing.
I thought FWP was an additional canned close reason.
(Especially since FW was splitting off from POB.)
Oh I see what you mean. Unfortunately there’s only room for 3 custom close reasons

Q: How do you think Wall-E retained his memory of Eve when he was rebuilt?

user144158I think he had a disk drive that was still intact when he was crushed by the holo-detector. When he was rebuilt, I think he was still analyzing his hardware, and when Eve kissed, he got the data from his disk and remembered him. Do you think that's true?

Q: What was the creature at the end of "What If...?" episode 1?

codeczarIn the Marvel series What if...? what is the character at the end of episode 1? What is it known as? Does it have any comic book origin or it is created for the show specifically?

@DavidW That was always a bit of an odd close reason, since every site already has an "other" option for miscellaneous off-topic posts, where you can leave a comment to explain specifically why it's off-topic. So yes, the generic close reason might have been used more, but it was really a whole bunch of things collected under one umbrella.
Plus SFF doesn't get that many posts which are completely unrelated to the topic of the site. There's the occasional lost programmer, but way less than say Meta Stack Exchange which does have a custom close reason for "not about Stack Exchange", because tons of people end up there thinking it's SO or wherever.
16:42
Fair enough. Like I said, I just wasn't paying enough attention, and it caught me by surprise. :)
Can I ask what's going on with the posts that are being deleted as spam along with the user? I saw one before it was zapped, and nothing jumped out at me as obviously spam.
(I suppose there might have been something objectionable in the user profile, but it wouldn't have occurred to me to check as long as the name was innocuous.)
