Sophie the Jedi KnightAt the end of Ragnarok, the ship with the surviving Asgardians is stopped by Thanos. In the beginning of Infinity War, we see that Thanos has killed a large number of Asgardians in his effort to kill half of the universe's population. However, in this scene, their ship is destroyed and we only ...

Q: What is the source of this lighting bolt shaped wand movement for Avada Kedavra?

ibidOn the Harry Potter wikia's page for Killing Curse, the following lightning bolt shaped icon is displayed as the wand movement. This icon is stylized like the ones that appeared on the old, pre-2015 Pottermore's dueling game. However none of the four unlockable spellbooks on Pottermore had inclu...

@Randal'Thor probably, put that on tiredness
@NapoleonWilson yeah, we do
@Jenayah thanks for inspiring a multilingual grammar discussion :-)
Anytime
@b_jonas at the time of voting, perhaps; it's when, several days/weeks/years later, the one you voted for turns out to be an equally bigger asshole than the other one that's concerning me.
@AncientSwordRage same
Because by then, you're partially responsible for the power they hold and abuse of, so, you know, not great for your mind when you're already mentally exhausted from a lot of other stuff
@Alex that still holds

Q: Demon king candidate manga

tdog8881This is the information I do remember from the manga. First in this world things like demons exist the main characters father works for the demons. Our main character is a human however he is chosen by a card I believe it be called the lovers card or something along those lines. Since he got this...

08:09
@Jenayah No, I still don't think that's a good enough reason not to vote. You should probably learn from that, but obviously everyone turns out to be less nice when they're secure in power than when they're campaigning right before an election, that doesn't mean you're doing something wrong when voting.
If there's no other candidate that you should have known would be better, then I don't think it makes you somehow complicit in electing the bad candidate when you voted for one of the apparently less bad ones.
Ok, so Skooba nominated too
Skooba nominated first haha
So many candidates.
@TheLethalCarrot Yeah, I just got confused.
@b_jonas @Jenayah Reminds me of the parable of the politician choosing between heaven and hell.
That's priceless
@Randal'Thor Sorry, I can't laugh on those again. Those jokes are good way to explain real world concepts to children, but these days I understand enough why someone must be evil to be a successful politician, and why they are nicer and promise everything during a campaign, so I no longer find it funny. You just can't keep your job in the long term without doing that, so there's a selection effect.
But I also don't live in the US, it's not like we just have two bad candidates, we actually have much worse candidates who still get into the parliament, which makes it so much more obvious that you should vote against them and your vote will be well spent even you are unsatisfied with the two leading candidates.
It happens almost everywhere else in Europe, and the US only avoids that because of a weird history and election system.
08:31
@Jenayah so you and your fellow voters can't predict the future 🤷🏻‍♂️
09:03
@Randal'Thor true enough
@AncientSwordRage yes, we suck don't we :(
@Jenayah not at all
> The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good [people] do nothing.
The way I see it is that not voting, is net negative. You can't vote purely against who you think of as bad candidates. But voting for whomever you think is good has to be net positive, even if it turns out to be completely positive
10:17
@AncientSwordRage lesser evil =/= good
10:36
@Jenayah lesser evil is still better than a greater evil

Q: What is considered the higher punishment: Penal Legion or Servitor?

Most criminals used as servitors are criminals against the Adeptus Mechanicus whereas penal legions consists (mo...

Q: Looking for a short story about "zombies" (artificial humans") and a space war

JREThis question over on "World Building" reminded me of a short story I read a long time ago. I would have read it in the mid 1990s or earlier. The story itself would have been much older. In the story, humans are involved in a space war. It seems things aren't going so well, so they've started ...

@Marvin Already closed before Obie Marvin even got it.
@AncientSwordRage Vote for Ron, he'd increase benefits for big families.
@Randal'Thor in case you're not just joking, RON stands for "Re-Open Nominations"
11:20
@AncientSwordRage Why couldn't you vote against who you think as bad candidates? I can, and I do, unless every candidate running the election is equally bad.
@b_jonas in some voting system, voting against is different to voting for the alternative. I'm saying to do the later as you can't do the former
@AncientSwordRage Er ok... I haven't seen such voting systems for elections, but sure.
I think people are just hurting themselves by making this more complicated than it is. There's an election. There are multiple candidates. You don't much like any of them, but some are clearly worse than others. So you vote on one of the ones who are less bad. It's that simple.
@b_jonas maybe I'm conflating election voting systems with other voting systems... regardless I think we're in agreement? More voting is more better?
@AncientSwordRage Yes.
@Alex still holds as well
That or tea, milk, whatever you drink
11:31
On a roll, then. Perhaps if I keep searching the transcript I'll find that you offered me large sums of money too.
And indeed....

@Alex I am on a roll, that is. Not that the coffee/tea/milk should be on a roll.

I’ll take my chances.

Q: Is The Hulk A Coward?

White PrimeSo, as you know, in Avengers: Infinity War, the Hulk took a pop at Thanos early in the film, catching him off-guard for a moment. DanicaIn X-Statix (2002) #16 (published January 2004), Myles says that "America has fifty-one states": Since one of Myles's main character trait is his education (as a well-read Harvard student – well, presumably Harvard dropout at this point), it's unlikely that this is meant to be the character ma...

@TheLethalCarrot good spot

@AncientSwordRage I know.
Once I was in a student society meeting, electing the next academic year's committee. Every role (president, secretary, etc.) had two options for voting, the nominee's name and RON. In the middle of the meeting, we were discussing why RON and one guy suddenly burst out "goddammit Ron Weasley!"
@Randal'Thor amazing
which society?
It wasn't even something fantasy-related.
Maths/science society.
@Randal'Thor heh
@JackBNimble have you figured out the other serious nominee?
I probably won't figure it out until the polls close.
@Marvin Too broad?
13:32
Was just thinking that
It may be short on details, but how many child ape/yeti movies from the 70s could there possible be?
At least three, apparently.
@Randal'Thor Agreed
I don't know what was happening in the 70s to create all those ape children. But at least we finally know why there were so many giant insects (particularly spiders) in the 1950s and 60s.
What could possibly go wrong?
@JackBNimble nothing at all
13:42
Someone really, really wanted Spider-Man to be a documentary?
Way to ruin the dream.
@JackBNimble my dream is to ruin dreams
Based on the look of those signs and the shape of the house in the background it looked like it was in England anyways.
England has nuclear power stations.

I nerd sniped myself into asking a maths question that will likley be closed (:
@AncientSwordRage If Maths.SE doesn't like it, you could try Puzzling.
@JackBNimble The UK can have a little spiderman, as a treat
@Randal'Thor don't I need an answer for that?
@AncientSwordRage Nooo, just be clear that you don't know the answer yourself.
@Randal'Thor ooooh nice
@AncientSwordRage How does a british superman differ from an american one? Does he spout random british idioms totally unrelated to the context to make him british, like the british superhero Big Ben in Powerpuff Girls?

Q: short story: future gameshow in which failure is fatal

Clara Diaz SanchezI am trying to recall a short story I read in an anthology about 10 years ago.
