Q: How was the 501st legion defeated at the Battle of Endor?

SpyBoxOnlineSo, Emperor Palpatine says during Return of The Jedi that "the shield generator is being guarded by a legion of [his] best troops", which can be inferred to mean the 501st Legion, or Vader's Fist due to their effectiveness and the presence of Darth Vader. How was an entire force of veteran soldie...

Q: Is the Flash always fast?

Foolish LemonI was wondering, when we see the Flash do everyday things, like ordering coffee or having a conversation, he seems to do it at "regular" speed. Is this because he can turn his speed "on and off" or is he essentially doing it super, super slow?

Q: Does Back To The Future ever directly (visually) contradict itself?

TronmanThis question is inspired by my answer here. In that answer, I speculate that there is only ever a single timeline, and thus, a single Marty. 13:03
@Donald.McLean Ahoy!
I must say that, starting with 9846 posts needing alt text last Sunday, it was somewhat disheartening to see the number this week had only dropped to 9842!
13:18
Ah, but it has dropped
@DavidW @logicdictates added about 4-5 in one question recently...
And they've added really bad descriptions too
13:33
I see that. :-/
Thinking about it, I'm not actually sure that's better than no alt text at all.
Theoretically, at least, if it's just "enter image description here" it will be found by the search and someone (with more patience, diligence and time than I) can eventually fix it properly...
@DavidW I'm tempted to tackle this....because we don't need all the pictures either
Someone suggested an edit on that particular post
@TheLethalCarrot I approved it
@Clockwork We have a query for finding missing alt text
2
@AncientSwordRage I hadn't really looked at it, but you're right; only the moment of realization is really necessary, so at most the last half of p. 11 and the first half of p. 12.
but it relies on detecting the default text
@DavidW I looked and maybe they are good to be in there

I'm not going to fix it, so I'll definitely defer to those who will. :)
Ughh, I'll do it then :p

Q: Why do ships fall in Star Wars?

@AncientSwordRage I tried to make a summary of what is happening, so a bit of both I guess?

@AncientSwordRage Ah, I see. Yeah, I made a very short context description, while your edit is like a transcript of how the scene goes down and the conversation happening
15:17
@Clockwork Don't apologize for that! It's great, what you put is much better than nothing. We just have some masochists here who like doing tonnes of extra work! :)

@Marvin We should start closing these as "real-world science question." After all, they're asking for a real-world name for something closer to wrestling than kung fu.
18:22
I'm working on my second "Audience-specific texts for custom close reasons" meta post, about the list/recommendation close reason. I feel like I may be brain-farting on relevant meta FAQs to link to; I've got this old one to say finite well-scoped lists are on-topic, and potentially this recent one to say "is there any" questions are off-topic, but am I missing anything else?
There doesn't seem to be a single clear meta post to say recommendations are off-topic, nor does our "edit it to ask for the earliest one" loophole seem to be particularly well documented.
When are you implementing these? The replace generic with FWP and the scientific solutions have been sat for a while now
@Null @AncientSwordRage @TheLethalCarrot @Jenayah or whoever else has good meta-fu
Oh, Carrot is here :-)
I think there’s a few related metas but they’re scoped to specific questions so not really what you’d be after
@TheLethalCarrot I think scientific solutions is about ready to be implemented, but I'm going to wait for all of them to be ready and then them and call in the cavalry.
@TheLethalCarrot Yeah, I want things which are general/FAQy enough to link from the close reason text itself.
Cavalry as in CMs? Can mods not edit them?
18:26
No, mods can only deactivate close reasons and activate new ones, which messes up the history and stats for number of questions closed with that reason etc., so it's better to get CMs to help.
@DavidW FWIW I think these are poor questions but they’re more in the opinion based than off topic close worthy category and thats a questionable close reason for them as well
@Randal'Thor gotcha, makes sense to do all of them at once then aye
My current workflow plan is: (1) reword scientific close reason; (2) reword list/rec close reason; (3) propose wording for FWP close reason; (4) tag 'em all and ping a CM.
I'm also using this as a learning process, on a more busy meta site, before going to do the same thing on Literature.
There’s this, but it’s probably not the right focus for what you’d want to link

A: Is this an unpopular type of question?

TheLethalCarrot“Any” questions generally receive a few downvotes and there certainly is a group of users that don’t like them, myself included. The problem is whilst they were ruled to be on topic they are essentially a poor loophole to just being a list question which are off topic. These types of questions al...

@Randal'Thor I think the old one is probably the most relevant.
I can't find anything better.
Actually it seems like we can't really link to anything from the guidance shown to the OP :-( at least if we want to guide them on how they might be able to salvage their question. There's a limit of 500 characters, and it counts input text not rendered text, so links are expensive.
Currently I've got this:
> Your question seems to be seeking recommendations or a list of works. Such questions, including "are there any stories with these criteria", are too open-ended to fit our site's format. If you're seeking a single specific work, add the story-identification tag. If you're seeking the earliest work with your criteria, add the history-of tag. In either of these cases, or if your context is within a single fictional universe, please edit to clarify, and your question may be reopened.
18:35
You can cut down the link count but it doesn’t go down by much
Can't even include a link to chat :-(
We've always done that as a nice redirect to a more informal environment to seek recommendations.
@Marvin I would move it to MartialArts.SE

King SluurI am curious about Dick Grayson, as he's the Robin in both shows. Robin in Young Justice is also in Teen Titans. @Jenayah A sanity check in case there's any obvious meta posts I'm missing (or any pre-posting feedback on the text I've drafted, now that I've posted that here).
I'm discussing with the community here and with CMs in TL concurrently, to get double strands of feedback :-) Feeling less confident about my drafts this time than for the scientific close reason.
Anyway, posted it. Now the feedback can go on meta.
We're audience-customising our site's custom close reasons! Meta posts for feedback: list/recommendation and scientific solutions/explanations.
