My father told me he read this story when he was young (I think). He was born in 1935 and is passed away now. He didn't remember the title or author but it impressed him.
In What is the counter-curse to Sectumsempra?, the accepted answer has the following lines,
So about all we know of this spell is that it's an incantation that sounds almost like song and that it apparently needs to be performed three times to be effective.
Also, on the Harry Potter Fandom,

I don't know how this one goes in the books, but in the movie Gandalf says:
Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east.
Does that imply that the battle of Hornburg lasted 5 days (it seemed to last only one night) or did he mean 5 days starting immediately
In Aquaman, after Black Manta's father was dead, Black Manta gets revenge on Aquaman.
At times I feel like Aquaman just killed Manta's father for the sake of it. So why did Aquaman kill Black Manta's father?
Her name is Sierra and she fell for a dangerous man who wanted to live forever. He found a way to occupy different bodies during the ball gown masquerade. They disappeared into the night together and flash forward present day and she tries to escape him.
Her face was pale and had sleek black hair...
In one episode we see that humans have evolved into first ones like beings. Can't remember where I read it but apparently Minbari also evolve into first ones like beings.
We know that Minbari souls are being born into human bodies, and some human DNA exists in some Minbari.
In the episode where w...
So this is 2 separate books so here goes

Is there a correct way to set up a Stargate, i.e. one side that is top and one that is down? If so, is it marked in any way? If so, what would happen if it were setup the wrong way around?
If not, how does the Stargate know which direction is down?
There was this blonde teen (I pretty sure he's a teen) who was a snooty prince who only wore different shades of light blue, blue, and dark blue, and there were 2 other people.
one was this massive tank of a man (much older than the prince) and he would only wear different shades of red, and ther...
Something I have often wondered about in a lot Western fantasy literature if magic is a part of society it is either
stuck in the middle ages,
Or if it does take place in modern time, those who can do magic are
hidden from normal people and great pains are taken to keep the
magical society hidde...
I'm trying to identify a novel I read around 1990 give or take 5 years.
It was fairly short (maybe 120 pages or so) and I read it in Dutch, but it is most likely a translation of an English original.
I'm very vague on the story content, but there are a couple of specific details that stuck in my ...
@Marvin Because creating a scientific/technological society based on magic is too much work for most fantasy authors? :-P
@Marvin Because that would make it too hard to hide the massively aristocratic/anti-democratic tone of most fantasy?
@Marvin Because if magic is ubiquitous and anyone can do it, then there's nothing to make the plucky, downtrodden, indomitable, disadvantaged author-insert special?
You forgot "Because there is no know magic in actual reality?" If magic did exist, then obviously it is hidden. Though there's plenty of parallel universe fantasy where magic is not hidden and the universe is mostly like our own. Laurell K Hamilton for example.
In the introduction to Audible version of Swords against Death by Fritz Leiber, Neil Gaiman states (about 1 minute into the "Opening Credits"):
The significance of the title of the book will become more apparent as the series goes on. Especially in the later books Ice Magic and The Knight and Kn...
How many times have you had to drop a project that was 90% complete because the CEO had a brainstorm, or the new owners saw it would compete with one of their products?
We don't have that kind of dilbertian political shenanigans here for the most part. I think that NASA oversight helps to prevent some of the more stupid crap that happens in conventional businesses.
A friend of mine is trying to find an old Hungarian story, here’s how they describe it:
“I remember a few characters, three of the main characters were;
A white cat with a purple bow/collar, female
A male pug looking dog
A pigeon
Some minor characters i remember:
Some weasel i think
A cow
A boar

@Donald.McLean That wouldn't surprise me at all. Every time I hear someone say that business is more efficient than government, I realize I'm listening to someone who has never actually worked for a modern corporation.
@DavidW Yeah, our current trash and water bills (commercial companies) are much higher than the trash and water bills at our previous house (county services).

We know that Black Widow is set after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War. Would the movie contain spoilers for future Marvel movies in the chronological timeline, such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame? For example, if someone would do a first time watch of...
I recall an Asimov character whose religious dietary restrictions forbade all foods produced from living things; they could eat only synthetic foods. At some point in the story, that character faced the dilemma of violating the dietary law or starving.
I recall the character in association with t...
The first three Spider-Man movies set in the MCU are called Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Before the third movie's title was revealed, three phony subtitles were released as jokes: Home Wrecker, Phone Home, and Homeslice.
Is there any significance...
Among the things I have yet to complain about: The question title (which is all that's displayed by default when reviewing an answer) is surrounded by a bunch of visually noisy junk, so it's hard to scan to. And it's even worse on mobile, where the question text is like 6pt high!
Heh. Sorry, if you're answering your user info is buried at the end like always. It's the user info of whoever asked the question that's front and centre, more prominent than the navigation buttons.
So, maybe you need to only answer questions posted by people with lots of rep/badges, so the halo effect carries over to your answers. :)
Alex Danvers is a DEO agent, and has been trained vigorously to handle extranormal threats. However, her sister Kara has a wide array of powers and was trained by Alex. Based on the past fights the two had (i.e. myriad), what would Alex do? Note: Alex can only do one thing. Do NOT post thousands ...
I'm searching for a short story (it's not Asimov's The Fun they Had) about a man who buys a vintage robot teacher and develops a relationship (I think the robot recites Shakespeare, and he spends more and more time with it, instead of with his family). I also seem to recall that school is now hap...
