Q: Can Ted Chiang's Omphalos be interpreted like this and does it deserve more praise?

PiovezanThis is my first question and I must admit I haven't put much effort in making sure it is on-topic for the community, but I felt this was the right place to ask. I've read about the 2019 short story by Ted Chiang, Omphalos, which had a moderate reception from reviewers. I think this is undeserved...

Q: 1980s sci-fi British schools TV show with noseless aliens

HfuyWhen I was a kid, more than 30 years ago, I remember watching a TV show at school in the UK. Would have been mid to late 80s. I think it was probably part of an english language thing, where they'd have worksheets for the kids to do after watching the show. In this TV show there were aliens who m...

Q: Is it permissible for gold badge users to close and reopen questions to clear out inappropriate close votes?

BuzzSometimes inexperienced users flag story identification questions for closing before an answer is confirmed. Since this is contrary to our policy for such questions, I have recently taken to using my ability as one of the handful of users with a gold [story-id] badge to close and then reopen suc...

Q: Is There Any Further Content on the Starship Enterprise C?

MissouriSpartanThe Enterprise C gets a brief glimpse to viewers in TNG episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise”, but that’s it. Is there any additional content out of universe that delves deeper into the history of the ship? (Comics, novels, even just producer or writer mentions)? In-universe, we all know she was destr...

Q: Who is this pink-caped superheroine?

pmcoltraneMy daughter wears a shirt that she calls her Supergirl shirt. The character printed on it looks like no version of Supergirl I have seen. See image below. Judging from the dashing cape and power pose, I assume she's meant to be a superhero. The shirt is secondhand, so if there was ever any copyri...

Q: Why was Hagrid expecting Harry to know of Hogwarts and his magical heritage?

Nikita NeganovIt is obvious that someone (at least Dumbledore) knew about the conditions Harry's been kept in: the letters were addressed to "cupboard under the stairs" and then to "the smallest bedroom". Moreover, they knew Harry wasn't receiving his letters, hence the hundreds of letters, sneaking them in th...

Q: Why does Salem not join the battle?

AdamantSalem is more powerful than any of her minions, with only Cinder and Salem's city-sized battle-whale possibly coming close to her combat abilities. However, she herself has so far stayed out of any avoidable conflicts, only bothering to fight when she has no other choice. Initially, this makes se...

Hey there, just wanted to ask, is this a good place to get feedback on a closed question? I feel like it ain't worth opening a meta post just for that.
ask away
So, basically, you probably noticed my last "episode-id" question (which is now closed as off-topic). Basically, I was thinking it would be on-topic because it was about the Looney Tunes universe (which I think some people considered on-topic) and about a character that could perform impossible feat ("superhuman" feat, although it would be more appropriate to say "superbeast" since he's not human).
So, I was wondering what part made it off-topic?
07:49
*shrugs* looks on-topic to me; VTROed
Thanks. Maybe I should try to ping a closer voter for their point of view too

Per consensus on Meta, Looney Tunes are on-topic. — Jenayah 26 secs ago

Q: Why did Saruman lose everything but Sauron kept doing what he wanted?

Vlad ParvuI get that Saruman lost his powers due to being replaced by Gandalf. But, all of these Valars and Maiars are made by Eru, therefore if Eru could do that to Saruman then he should be able to do the same with Sauron as well. Sauron himself should have lost his powers as well, yet he probably manage...

Your second bullet actually works? I can clear four pending Opinion-Base votes by closing and reopening as a duplicate? — Alex 13 mins ago
@Alex haven't tested, but I'm pretty sure it would work. Your gold tag badge hammer would override any other situation, then the reopening would clear everything
@Jenayah Anything I now do is your fault for enlightening me.

Q: Where to find a "old" short comic about two friends finding a treasure map

Lucas SchatzSome years ago, I found on the internet (probably 9gag) a comic about two young friends that found/received a treasure map from an experienced adventurer. They both start to follow the map looking for the treasure itself encountering challenges/monsters on the way. When they finally come to the e...

Greetings, Earthlings.
@Alex tsss
@Mithical I can be a supehero: Deflector.
Sounds more like a supervillian, always deflecting the blame onto someone else.
Mystery Men has proven the value of even the most obscure super power.
Eh what’s the difference between a superhero and a supervillain anyway? Just which team you’re on.
13:19
@Alex something something presentation?
@Donald.McLean bleep bloop
No, it's about choices. JK Rowling was actually right about that.
Guess I need to read more superhero comics/watch more movies.
13:35
@Alex yes you do.
@Jenayah Recommendations?
@Alex E.g. ”From my point of view the Jedi are evil.”

@Alex some Ragman maybe? As you've already delved a bit into it :-)

Q: Did Peter Pettigrew use the Cascading Jinx to kill the 13 Muggles at once?

Nini I was thinking about how could it be possible that he had killed so many people at the same time.
