It took me a while to realize that Sokovia is basically an anagram of Kosovo with the -ia ending.
So 🧀y
At best.
Just like all all the totally hidden historical figures in Star Wars.
There's no way that Saw Guerrera the freedom fighter with radical tactics is Che Guevara + Guerrilla.

Q: 1960s short story about a device that stops time for anyone within its field

Sierra PeteThis short story was in a Sci-Fi or Fantasy anthology I read in the late 1960s. It involves a scientist who invents a small device with a circular cable loop that is capable of slowing time almost to a standstill for anyone inside the cable loop. The scientist's bad-guy lab assistant steals the d...

Q: Sci-fi story ID: man watches girlfriend's spaceship entering a 'black hole' (?) forever

TomI read a sci-fi story in a collection of shorts about 10 years ago, I believe they were stories from 70s possibly and have been trying to track down the title. My recollection is that a number of ships encountered problems with a black hole or similar timey-wimey space object, and the ship belon...

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Offensive body detected (44): Which Game of Thrones characters had their race changed? by Badp00sy on scifi.SE

@Jenayah why bother editing the tags on such obvious bigoted trolling?

@Adamant I was mostly editing the n-word thing. Was also going to leave a comment but it got deleted before. Other than the n-word, the question looks like an on-topic one...?
Was on the verge on this one, gotta admit. Not enough sugar in the blood yet...

The core premise of the question isn't horrible by itself, but coming from a new user with clearly racist aims (as evidenced by them clearly signposting that they're using a racial slur as a group descriptor) means it should just go, period.

Oh, regarding Metasmoke, I understand the thing a little better. Must have been edited during grace period because by the time it got to review queue, "nigger" was spelled as "n-word". Which seemed just a bit like self-censorship
Aaand nevermind. N-word was edited out by someone else.

5:30 AM
@Jenayah Frankly terrible either way, and even if it could be edited to be an on-topic question, the user shouldn't have the chance to get reputation for it.
Any question with racial slurs as a group descriptor needs to go. Frankly anything but a direct quote is suspect. We've got quite enough more subtle bigotry on SE without accommodating the blatant ones.

Oh, I'm not saying what I did was right. I wish I'd have seen the original post when opening the review, I would have flagged immediately.
(and that's also the problem of stuff reaching review queues with RA flags on it...)
@Adamant yeah, just seemed a tad bit less of the shit i'm used to read/receive, so I guess I thought to salvage it

Mmmm. To me the edited version, when I thought it was the original, was in some ways worse, because they were signifying that they knew it was offensive to use a racial slur, and then basically using one anyway. But I can see why it might have seemed salvageable.
There have been a lot of questions with fairly clearly prejudiced premises that got edited and were useful to the site.
Or at least not deleted.

Yeah, I was going to add a comment along the lines of "you know it's bad. Please don't do it. 'person of colours, 'black person', or simply 'had their skin color changed' is more appropriate. Other than that the question seems receivable", but got deleted before

@J.Doe 'fternoon

@TheLethalCarrot Hmm, why did you say this to Jenayah when she briefly expressed frustration at new close votes, but not to the person who created an entire meta post to witch-hunt a reopen voter? Out of context your comment appears neutral and unbiased, which you're clearly not on this issue.

(Dunno if that was already said. I haven't read the whole transcript, just saw this on the starboard.)

3:53 PM
@Randal'Thor Wording was the main reason, it's one thing to ask why something that is quite peculiar was happening and another to express something in that manner

@J.Doe wow, may I ask what country, if you're willing to share? I don't think we did such things so soon here :o (France)

@Jenayah India
We have an engineering entrance exam, for which over a million students prepare for. We have such math in that exam. Similar physics and chemistry too.

@Randal'Thor well, there was a misunderstanding there. I don't care about whether it's open or closed, I was just awed by the new round of drama. @TheLethalCarrot took it as me defending the reopen side, I guess
But TBH this stuff is just too much so I won't even go back to try and figure it out. Skipping all that review stuff, as I did before.
@J.Doe impressive! Good luck then!

@Jenayah No it was more how it was worded as I said but to be honest all this effort for one question... I just don't care about this case anymore

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is a line from the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. It is spoken by Queen Gertrude in response to the insincere overacting of a character in the play within a play created by Prince Hamlet to prove his uncle's guilt in the murder of his father, the King of Denmark. The phrase is used in everyday speech to indicate doubt concerning someone's sincerity. A common misquotation places methinks first, as in "methinks the lady doth protest too much". == In Hamlet == The line, like most of Shakespeare's works, is in iambic pentameter. It is found in Act III...

@DavidW By the way, when questions get sent to the Reopen queue because of an edit, you will see a message stating that. When there's no such message then it means that the question was sent to the queue on its own merit. Compare these two screenshots:

5:51 PM
@Alex Yeah, I've seen both. That's why (as I commented on the meta) I tend to review edit-reopen on the basis of if the edit has substantially changed the question. Otherwise it's going through the whole "should this be open or closed" drama just because someone has decided to change the formatting of a title from "Name" to Name.
Of course that turned out not to be a popular idea.

@DavidW Just wanted to make sure that you know that you can tell them apart. It happens to be, though, that if the question went to the reopen queue because of an edit it’s usually not because people disagreed with the closure in the first place.
