oh never mind the difference was small and I didn't spot it

Congrats on FP gold!
@Jenayah
must have missed it earlier

:D thanks bows
in all likelihood next one should be Close Votes then Low Quality posts
At the current rate it'd be Edits before LQP, but @Stormblessed is going to hit 2k any time now :D

My next in line is LQP then CV, then probably SE, a bit of a gap and then LA and then a big old gap till ROV
Should get LQP and CV within a month
And within two months I’ll get my imaginary second FPs haha

12:15 AM
LQP is unlocked before close, aye?
nevermind, it is
(found the answer by going to M&TV queue... It wasn't obvious in the Privileges page)
wait...
...if LQP is unlocked before CV why do I have more close reviews than LQP reviews ._.

Until “recently” I barely had any LA reviews, all depends on what you like to review and what is available at the time

eh pretty much everything is reviewable... If I'm unfamiliar with the thing but it obviously lacks a source to edit in I throw in a comment and if it's obviously me lacking knowledge I skip
I skip way much more on M&TV though

Q: Why did Harry Potter take place in 1981?

jennyWhy couldn't it be in the 1940s? Was there any special events happening in 1980-1990 that relates to the story? I'm doing this for school and I couldn't find anything.

12:32 AM
@Marvin Wait, dafuq wut?!
Always thought it was set when it was written.
At least that might explain why noone gave a shit about muggle tech.

C'mon 90s tech wasn't that terrible... oh wait... it kinda was :P

12:48 AM
Well, the question said '81 actually.
(But apparently that was a misunderstanding anyway.)

he was born in the 80s though
technically the first book opens with Voldemort's defeat, so yeah, somewhere in the 80s.
the movie as well

Q: Did Ar-Pharazôn and the King's Men know Melkor was Morgoth?

RexWhen Sauron corrupted the Númenoreans during Ar-Pharazôn's reign by making them worship Melkor, were the King and his followers aware that Melkor, the Lord of Darkness, was in fact the evil Morgoth who afflicted their ancestors in the First Age? @Jenayah Questions can be sent to the Close Vote queue even if they're not Low Quality.

@Alex yes but I started reviewing LQP before CV. Both queues go more or less at the same rate. Hence it's funny I have more CV

Are you sure they go at the same rate? Anything which is a potential duplicate is probably not low quality.

LQ is mainly non-answers

Why would there coincidentally be the same amount of non-answers as closable questions?

I dunno

3:12 AM
I mean, I don't do many reviews here, so I wouldn't know. But it seems pretty coincidental.

How are the rates going on MY?

3:24 AM
I'd say the Close queue is the most active there.

very comprehensive, very interesting analysis

I have 313 reviews there, and 105 on Low Quality Posts.

even better it's actively updated, updated less than a month ago and over a long period of time (17+ years at least)
though to be fair it seems to have a large quantity of dead links lol, turns out link rot over 17+ years is a thing, what a shock

@Alex ok

Though a much greater percentage of skips on Low Quality Posts.

@Riker poke @Randal'Thor

already pinged him in another chat, I figured he'd see my crosspost

pingfest

70/175 vs 85/398

@Jenayah I've tried to not do that anymore, I've almost gotten kicked from IRC for accidentally leaving 30+ delayed messages for the same user ;p and SE chat is more restrictive

3:30 AM
@Riker m'ok... I don't know jack about WOT though

I don't think I've ever had more than ~10 messages waiting for me.

@Riker people still use IRC? :D

well be impressed not by my answer but by the link to teh blog
@Jenayah yeah, this is for a server for an old game, this server

Hi there! That's some info already; but maybe you could take a look at thse guidelines on story-ID, see if they trigger any more memories you could edit in? For instance, you may still be able to narrrow the time your read it at a decade or so? Any recollection of the cover? Was that in English, translated? Also, spoilers are totally fine, as it may trigger someone else's memory :) if you want, you cna hide them by preceding them with >!, for instance >! Darth Vader is Luke's father. — Jenayah 1 min ago
That’s a spoiler

I'm doing my best to throw a non-spoiler example spoiler

@Jenayah but spoilers
Everyone spoiled that before I first saw Star Wars, it’s annoying

hey, I need an example. SW's the less spoilery (but still "real") I got

If it's really an issue you can just make one up.

@Stormblessed meh, SW isn't really great anyways ;)
@Alex Luke is Darth Vader's father?

4:09 AM
@Jenayah blasphemy /s

@Jenayah Isn't that from Toy Story 2 or something?

That’s actually the only sci-fi series of movies I’ve really watched...
I don’t watch movies much

@Alex eeh?

@Jenayah Doesn't the same thing happen?

I don't remember Darth Vader being in Toy Story 2?

Oh, then right ahah

Damn funny story about Toy Story
> I actually spent like 19 years of my life not having ever watched the movies, 'cause we arrived too late at the cinema and that was never brought up again
Then sometime some months ago I'm like "yeah let's watch the first one"
(it was 2 am on a school day)
Oh man that movie was good
So I'm like "meh, it's still early I can watch the next one"
Well I basically binge-watched them in a row

Q: Do you know some recommendation web-sites?

userEnglish is second language for me. For example, I love Abercrombie's books. And I want to read his "neighbors". So I'm looking for web-site about books with personal recomendations. Smth like goodreads..=) Thanks)

6:34 AM
Well, I've nearly finished the Umbrella Academy on Netflix. Wow, the main characters are unlikeable "heroes."
I suppose the nicest is Luther. He only has mild anger management issues, and scuffles with his at least equally unlikeable siblings.
Allison spent most of her life mind-controlling all her friends and family, seemingly. Diego goes out and puts "tough on crime" enforcement philosophies into action by murdering criminals.
Klaus is incredibly selfish and callous, which I guess makes him second-nicest after Luther.
Number 5 is a psychopath and a contract killer, so I guess he's probably the worst.
And Vanya...I don't think I need to say anything except that whatever anger management class Luther needs would be a very good thing for her as well.
...our heroes, ladies and gentlemen

6:54 AM
Great, spam makes it to feed now

@Jenayah At last, I'll know who's doing black magic on me !

RO can delete I guess
or mods
@Adamant did you liked it or not O.o

@AnkitSharma ehhhhhhh

@Adamant boooring

Our heroes were very nominal.

7:00 AM
No big deal that it's in chat, problem is spam wasn't handled fast nuff

I like someone I can cheer for.

@Adamant not a X-men story

@AnkitSharma Well, it kind of is.

@Adamant then it's not a show for you as it's never supposed to be a typical superhero show like it's comcis

@AnkitSharma It's not for me, indeed.

7:03 AM
@Adamant and they are like doom petrol :P but the thing is X-men show you more positive stuff in the end where you can cheer for your fav etc, doom patrol is for full weirdness, umbrella academy is not so heroic and more awkward dark fun
Even sharing same premise they are not that much similar

"Doom Petrol"

I loved Umbrella Academy, except ending part

Ahah funny typo :)

So UA is a bit like Misfits?
I know nothing of UA
Also did you have the occasion to check the cartoon site? :)

7:05 AM
@Jenayah yes retired misfit superhero team
But dark and fun. Good balance. Titans was only dark

@AnkitSharma Ah, the TV series?
The recent one?

@Jenayah no, I was busy selecting a wedding gift, fighting with my special one and booking tickets
@Adamant yes

I watched a few episodes.
They're all psychos too, Robin especially.
:)
Or Nightwing or whoever.

It's fully comic book inaccurate but fun
@Adamant that's then fun part ;)
After the Teen Titans Go I will prefer them to be grumpy psychos then joke

@Adamant nah he's not Nightwing yet, probably going to take on the name in S2 though
@AnkitSharma TTG doesn't exist

7:11 AM
@AnkitSharma I guess the joking seems a little off, too.

@AnkitSharma I mean like the TV show Misfits

All I'm saying is that crime-fighting vigilantes are morally ambiguous on their own, really.

7:40 AM
@Jenayah 'yup
@Adamant that's the fun part
Nothing is black and white

7:53 AM
The time travel logic was very confused too.
As time travel often is.
What can and can't be negated by time travel?
Is destiny inevitable, or is it entirely avoidable and something that the Commission feels obligated to enforce?
Because Handler says both at various times.
What constitutes the correct timeline? Apparently, non-time-travellers can make the "wrong" decisions.
Is killing people necessary to affect the timeline (as the Commission's actions would suggest) or pointless?

Q: Anime character of a girl with black hair, wearing pink clothes and with a pink flower in their hair

D. N.What is the below anime character of a girl with black hair, wearing pink clothes and with a pink flower in their hair? What anime are they from?

> if city has only had 11 questions in 7 years, then it doesn't seem like people need it
@Jenayah I'm sure there are plenty of work tags that only have a handful of questions over the years, whilst a somewhat useful factor to take into account on a site like ours it is less important than say SO

9:37 AM
I said I was talking about non-authors, non-franchise, non-media, non-works tag

So you did, I stopped reading and continued a bit later so missed that

> don't think I'll surprise anyone when I say SFF has some "unclear" tags. I'm talking about non-work, non-franchise, non-media, non-author tags. While some are very popular (aliens has 1020 questions, magic 541, etc)
No worries

Either way some tags are still useful despite having low questions
FWIW you also might want to rephrase this:
> if there's a discussion and a consensus, there will also be happy and unhappy people, but when the unhappy side rants, the happy ones can stuff the Meta consensus in.
To be blunt it comes across as "This meta was crafted so I can tell people to F off if they don't agree with burning tags in the future"
@Mithrandir [insects] and [ufos] seem useful in the same way that [aliens] is... if something is used inconsistently clean it up, don't just full blank nuke it

@TheLethalCarrot it is? The generalization was intended to be no matter what "side" "wins" :/
If you can think of a way to reword it I'm taking

Q: What happens when you name a Seraph Blade after Raziel?

Jace-LightwoodIn The Shadowhunters Codex, Jace said that you don't name a Seraph Blade after Raziel. Does anyone have any idea what would happen? It's for a fanfiction about Shadowhunters, and I'm curious to see what others think would happen, as you probably know better than I do.

9:44 AM
I know what you was going for but it's worded strongly and you are clearly on the side of "nuke the tags"

Well I did announce when it was becoming subjective

10:12 AM
SW cannot not be a dupe right?

@TheLethalCarrot Can you define how actually is helpful? It doesn't seem helpful to me, given how varied depictions of aliens are across different SFF works.

It's useful to categorise story-id Qs

Is... that actually helpful though? How does it help?

It's not helpful, but it's too far gone

10:23 AM
Of course it is, it isn't exactly that easy to search through 12k Qs cos all you have is the main tag and trying to guess keywords the tags help that

It'd be easy if they actually all got tagged as such, which is totally not the casd

I stopped watching Arrow since then because it didn't make any sense. Is it a rating stunt or get people to watch more of The Flash, Supergirl or Ar...

Plus by experience if you want to search story-id in the site the only tag you have to browse is story-id, then it's down to the keywords
It works, though

So because a tag isn't used consistently you want to nuke it? That's odd
You should clean it up and tag appropriately not destroy it

Nevee said I wanted to nuke aliens, I ain't touching this one it's too much of a mess
@TheLethalCarrot agreed, and can be done on some, can't on others

10:34 AM
Of course it can be done, it's just more work and with the amount of work the "tag cleanup team" have been doing, and is planning on doing, it's not really gonna add much

Aliens?
It's got a thousand questions

And? It can still be cleaned up if you really wanted to do it, it would just take longer

10:59 AM
Assuming nobody messes it up while it's being done... There are easier things to fix, and especially more important

I'd argue that tag cleanup in general is one of the less important things to fix on the site

Well if you can fix broken links, stupid title, alt text and tag in one go it's a win
But sure bumping some otherwise clean stuff toremove a single tag isn't worth it, no argument there

@Catija Any word on if we are getting a new new theme on SFF and if so what sort of timescales we looking at?

Seconded
Also sorry for being hit and run in chat, work etc

@Marvin The description made it sound like it could be good, if that's right, which it probably is, boy was I wrong haha
@Jenayah Since you edited it, add the year and that they saw it on TV in will ya

Sure, sec
@TheLethalCarrot sounds like a stupid flick :P

Well I'm using good relatively haha

Nice this got posted during lunch break

I decided to try and find it by reading lists of "alien ripoffs", was taking too long

I went for Sabrina and dropped it when three queries gave nothing
Neck seemed more interesting

11:52 AM
I started with Sabrina as well haha

Everybody would
Aliens ripoff would have seem broad but I'd probably have ended up on it if neck and controlling Earth didn't work
Cool, it's not even a dupe :)

Nice, it can't be far off the HNQ at the moment either

That would be nice :P
Also the Connections page on IMDb would probably not have proven super helpful, there's no description
Might be worth editing in

I didn't even know that was a thing haha

Have you not read my guide?! ò_ó
It's mentioned in the guide :P

11:59 AM
You mean you're long ass story id guide that no sane person would read? :P

Maybe if you had read it you'd have caught the story faster... Just saying :P
Also worth noting that I don't know about you, but I'm on mobile right now so speed is divided by two, at least :P
</brag>

Well I'm at work so speed is divided by at least 10

Hurray for lunch breaks
Ah well new story-id seems searchable but duty calls... :P

It's a good description

12:32 PM
@Jenayah On a note about this because I think it is worth mentioning. Whilst it's not about mass editing over a short time span it is about mass editing over a long sustained period which can be disruptive in other manners
And of course it is about mass editing, just not in the usual definition :P

12:47 PM
True
In hindsight November Stargate retagging was too fast
Even if 20 days

1:00 PM
Hence why I'm taking the time with the current ones
Out of curiosity who spotted them?

Spotted?

Stuff I'm currently fixing
Mainly putting in proper tags but fixing links alt texts etc while I bump it
I mean if nobody noticed that's good I guess? Means it's not disruptive

Well I noticed, it's not exactly difficult to spot

I mean sure you would notice because you check everything (not judging at all, I do too), but wanted other's opinions if available

I wouldn't have noticed anything out of the ordinary.

1:09 PM
If you spend any time on the homepage, even if you don't open stuff, it is easy to spot...

Not necessarily. You notice edits, but not necessarily that it's old stuff. I do check most things, so that's why I said "wouldn't have". ;)

I can tell when an old post has been bumped over a new one, there are usually some very noticeable differences between old and new stuff
For example, I knew it was an old post on that ST one you bumped this morning

? I didn't bump it
It was already on the front page

Well the point is that it was an old post

I mean sure, it's old, but it was there because of a new answer

@TheLethalCarrot I guess that depends on who's looking, like you I'd say some tendencies are easy to spot but it might differ from person to person

Oh sure

Q: Older Iron Man where he is remote controlling an Iron Man suit and it shoots up from the basement through a chute

yuleruleI think I remember an image of Iron Man/Tony Stark remote controlling an Iron Man suit from a basement. He's sitting in a spherical control chair, and I think that the Iron Man shoots up from a basement through a chute. I just re-watched all the MCU since 2008, I think it's from earlier than that.

Discussion about whether or not such tag edits should be done at all has been moved to chat. Please keep comments here relevant to how it should be organised, assuming it should be done at all. — Rand al'Thor ♦ 1 hour ago
@Randal'Thor but technically the "it shouldn't be done, period" from the comments was kind of an answer?
If the community doesn't want it it is an answer.... I'm not sure I follow

The comment kind of contradicts itself at the end by saying "assuming it should be done at all."
If I'm reading it correctly

Well yeah, that's like saying "let's suppose it happens, what now?" when "nope, we don't want it to happen, shoo" is acceptable

4:12 PM
FWIW I'm inclined to answer the meta with "Just keep it as it is now, raise a meta post, group where appropriate, act on the outcome" but waiting to see what other "options" are proposed

Q: Why did Luke use his left hand to shoot?

Nikita NeganovIn A New Hope Detention Center Shoutout scene Luke is clearly shooting with his left hand. Later in this same video at 4:51 he makes a leftie shot more clearly. In The Empire Strikes Back while following Boba Fett, Luke holds a gun (and subsequently shoots) with his right hand. Needless to say...

I wonder if Luke got a prophetic dream or something that he'll lose his right hand, and so started to practice dexterity of his left hand in advance.

Yeah, do it the boring way. Suit's fine. Get a James Bond one ;p
@b_jonas LOL

@Marvin gee someone actually wrote a book called Telepathic Communication with the Animal Kingdom
> This book contains information on animal communication, spiritualism, grief and the parallel experiences of loss we all experience with the death of a beloved, whether they are family of the human variety or equine, canine or feline. It is a heart-warming and informative guide. First, it is a guide for your personal search, if you are inclined, to communicate with animals. Second, it is a guide to grief and loss. Third, it addresses the bigger question about intuition, life and death.
