Q: Can you Awaken something that is alive?

MaslinIs it possible to Awaken something that is already alive, thereby gaining control over the being?

How do you set a bounty on a question?

there should be a "start a bounty" link unuder the edit/flag buttons
unless the question is younger than two days

@Jenayah Ok

> How do I start a bounty? When can I start a bounty?

A bounty can be started on a question two days after the question was asked.

To start a bounty, click on the start a bounty link at the bottom of an eligible question. The bounty panel will open. Use the dropdown to allocate the bounty amount -- anywhere between 50 and 500 reputation, in 50 point increments. Also, specify a canned reason why you are starting the bounty from a dropdown, and type an optional further explanation.

You must have at least 75 reputation to start a bounty, and at least as much reputation as the bounty amount.

@Stormblessed yeah that one is on the nuke list...

If this tag had a description, only 3-question or less tags wouldn't have an excerpt
@Jenayah Or that, too

Are there templates for types of tags' excerpts?

by the way @Mithrandir ^ you don't have any more skeletons to bury

10:17 PM
Like for media tags, series tags, etc.?

what do you mean?

@Jenayah Like "For questions about the book Book Name by the author Jane Doe?
So tag excerpts could be made faster

Well it's certainly the most used, but theer's no autocopletion that I know of

@Jenayah That would be a good thing for a Meta post to speed up the process of describing tags
How did @Mithrandir add the strikethroughs later?
You can't edit for very long
Like I can't edit a thing from 3 minutes ago

@Jenayah The simplest solution would be to just make you a moderator.

10:20 PM
As for franchise tags when there is one the subtags' excerpts should read soemthing like "For questions about the mutant superhero team created in 1963 by Stan Lee. Use with the [marvel] tag"
@Stormblessed Mith's a mod, mods can edit and remove chat posts as they wish
even if they're mods on other sites; mod powers apply to network-wide chat
@Stormblessed you can suggest one but certainly letting it be reviewed is faster
most tag wiki edits that do add an excerpt to a tag that mimssed one get approved
There is a "the excerpt should be about how to use the tag, not just what it's about" reject reason but meh
It certainly is useful on SO but on SFF... Well duh our tags are pretty intuitive to use

@Jenayah All my edits fit that category.

And when they're misused the community is fast enough to fix it so no problem
@Alex haven't seen a lot of edits of yours in the suggested tag wiki edits on SFF

Mi Yodeya?

eheh

The only one I made here was correcting a typo, or something.

10:26 PM
I mean there are times when you do need to add a "use this tag with [marvel] tag" line and the occasional "use for questions about Overwatch lore, not game mechanics, those belong on Arqade.SE" guidance but other than that...
@Alex yeah I remember that one
sec

But yeah, for the most part, if you define the thing then it's usually obvious that you should use the tag for questions about that thing.

@Jenayah How'd you find that so quickly?

remembered it

The specific tag?

10:28 PM
what can I say "pajama" made me giggle at the time
It's a pity I can remember useless stuff like this but not some of my lectures though

You give lectures?

nah I receive them
sometimes I remember them, sometimes... I have a much harder time remembering what was said :P
(meh, network classes are boring)

I can see why:

Probably apples and oranges though. Assignments deal with newspaper/poems/corpus analysis, not Superman depictions or Hogwarts tweaks :D

No I meant classes about networks, IP, cloud computing (the network part of cloud computing), transmissions and stuff
that's not my favorite field... at all

I was more responding to the general fact that you can remember stuff here better than school stuff.

10:34 PM
ah
by the way @Stormblessed are you going to set up a bounty? :)

10:53 PM
@Jenayah What's dry?

eheh

Q: How did they capture all of the Symbiotes in the Venom movie?

user109379At the start of the movie, they are already in the spaceship with the symbiotes. So how were they able to capture the symbiotes in the first place?

11:23 PM
Cool, I just got the reputation limit on two sites on the same day.

11:50 PM
and both thanks to HP :)

Indeed.

Q: Would Harry Potter be killed as a sorcerer?

MalperBefore asking my question, I'd like to make it clear that this is being asked in all seriousness, and not as some form of satire or "Purim Torah". I think there is a precedent for asking halachic questions based on fictional works – as Dave pointed out elsewhere, R' Zevin has a classic article on...

That's the only such question.

^ I don't understand everything in there but I'm surprised there's no answer from you :)

@Jenayah It's basically asking if Harry Potter was real, would it be a violation of Jewish Law.

11:56 PM
uh
I don't knwo Mi Yodeya policies but isn't that a bit POB?
as HP isn't a real-world character ad JKR's setting doesn't exist

Nah, it's just asking how the parameters of a certain law would be applied in a certain case. Whether the case exists or not is unimportant.

ah, alright!

In fact, we have a whole bunch of questions there based on science fiction:
4
Q: Catalog of sci-fi questions

Isaac MosesWe've had a bunch of questions of varying quality related to science fiction (or, more generally, speculative fiction), most or all asking how Jewish law would deal with some scenario that is either not currently practical or never could be. This includes anything to do with space travel, even t...

@Jenayah That makes it hypothetical, but not necessarily opinion-based. (Not saying that either is better than the other, though.)

hhmmm true
