Q: Long forgotten fantasy series about a world with ice ships and lots of religious overtones

ZaulishI've looked for this series several times over the years, but could never find it. I read it in 1988 or 1989 when I was at summer camp. The only things I remember are there were ice ships that traveled across the word and there was a religious order that was clearly the bad guys in the story. I ...

Q: Who is rebel friend?

Donatello SwansinoI was playing LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga recently (don't judge me), and while doing the first level for A New Hope, there is a character you can play as named "Rebel Friend." He doesn't seem to be based on any existing character that I know of. My questions are who is he and where did he c...

Q: Scifi story about slow moving aliens

tohitsuguDid you ever find the authors name? Ive been looking for this story for years. I had forgotten they were on cards until I saw your question.

02:41
@Randal'Thor You linked the Harley Quinn question for me, you showed me that when I wanted to know if I had to worry about her having a child with the Joker. :)

Q: What book featured a city with many shrines for gods?

StevenI read a thin fantasy novel about a city, where many gods were worshipped, each god had some type of temple, and 1 night each year all the gods roamed the streets and you 'd better stay inside. I remember that a great frog-god hopped through the streets. Anybody know this book? Thanks

Looks cold.
Oh damn, I'm banned from flagging again :(
For the third time.
And I don't even think I've got that many declined flags.
08:18
How many do you have?
18 flags, 4 declined.
I don't remember how many I had to have to get banned, though.
%10 in the past week IIRC
I got flag banned once. Wasn't fun.

Q: Links to book series on Amazon are being mangled

Harry JohnstonI answered a question and included a link to a book series on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B00YSGMWQ2 The link worked in the preview, but when the answer was posted it had been replaced with http://rads.stackoverflow.com/amzn/click/B00YSGMWQ2 which redirects to https://www....

@Bellatrix True, but that doesn't explain how the link got enough clicks, recently, to earn me the Announcer badge. Unless you copied the link somewhere else or something.
Btw @Bellatrix, I forget - do you watch Doctor Who? Because there's a character in it these days who's getting more and more Bellatrixy :-)

Q: Tiny spacecraft in orbit around light, boy in a mirror, and phone box made out of lego?

hawkeyeThis was a book written in 1987 +/- 3Y - aimed at kids. It had a particular exchange on the radio when talking with aliens in a tiny spacecraft: Loost! Loost! Your name is Loost? Loost! Oh! They're saying they're lost! It included: a yowie a boy in the mirror a phone box...

@Gallifreyan Really? That's surprising. I would've thought you've been raising enough flags recently not to be in danger of that.
The fun part is that it doesn't stop me from raising comment flags.

@doppelgreener So when do you plan on watching the film?
That moment when Tilda Swinton should've been cast as the Technical Girl.
12:25
@Gallifreyan Which one in particular? The Iron Giant?
(Also, congrats, it won. :D)
@doppelgreener Well ye, after voting ends we'll surely have to watch it now? When would you like to do that?
Late on a Saturday (by European time) would probably work best for the greatest number of people. :)
Kinda like what we did for Pan's Labyrinth. You had to leave early during that one, and since this is your movie I think it's reasonable for you to push it back earlier!
Late on Saturday wouldn't be June anymore :)
It's July Film Night, though!
Pan's Labyrinth was June Film Night
Oh, wow.
12:38
Yeah. :D
The summer school stuff completely warped my perception of time.
It has only been about 3 weeks since we saw Pan's Labryinth! :)
[time warp further discombobbles Gallifreyan]

@doppelgreener Just make sure you're at the right end of the spaceship near the black hole.
@Randal'Thor Hmm. That gets me thinking: what happens if you do the Time Warp dance whilst travelling at relativistic speeds?
@doppelgreener What it got me thinking about was a black-hole-physics theory of Narnian time discrepancies.
12:46
@Randal'Thor Is that a theory that there's a black hole inside Narnia causing the time difference?
Or rather, that Narnia and our world are at differing distances from a black hole.
I was about to ping humn in he other room with that one, but decided to drop it here also ;P
I kept thinking about this while watching yesterday's Doctor Who episode, in which there's a 400-mile-long spaceship near a black hole and time is moving at very different speeds at different ends of the spaceship.
12:48
(spoilers)
@Mithrandir Not really.
I usually hide spoilers in a link like this: hover here for spoilers
The time difference thing is established near the start of the episode, and was already (like a couple of much more spoilery things) revealed in the trailers.

@doppelgreener try this

@Ixrec Where are you, friend?
here
How goes it?
fine, enjoyed the new DW more than I was expecting too
17:40
@Ixrec Was it the season finale?
don't think so, it ended on a cliffhanger
Oh, so when is the finale?
in The Reading Room, 7 hours ago, by Gallifreyan
So much to read, so little time
And Doctor Who is yet not viewed
Sadness.
17:53
I have the whole season on DVR. Haven't had time to watch any DW at this point. But the nice thing is that I know this is episode 11 and it's 13 episodes and they usually do a "lead up" to a 2 part finale, so I figure if I wait a week and start, by the time I get to this episode, the season will be over and I won't be stuck waiting.
Instead you'll just get spoilers.
@Gallifreyan I watch for them. Avoided them so far.
Except the one about him landing on the Galactica and killing Adama and Roslin.

Q: From Star Trek to the Newest iterations, the Enterprise moves through a starfield in a way that seems to defy physics.

Q: Which car was Tony Stark driving in the end of Iron Man 3?

LokiAs the title says, which car was Tony Stark driving in the end of Iron Man 3? To clarify, the scene in question is exactly at the end of the movie when Tony goes to the ruin...

LokiIn Iron-Man 3, Tony is wearing a head-piece/ear-set and is constantly giving instructions to Jarvis. What is the range of this device? Q: Can a Jawa, Tusken Raider, or Hutt produce Force-sensitive offspring?

MorganCurious if there's anywhere you've heard of that says they absolutely cannot. Q: Is there an upper limit on the range of a Stargate?

LokiDo we know if there is an upper limit on the range of a Stargate or given enough power (and a proper set of coordinates) one can reach anywhere? Q: Gold, Silver and Bronze ages for DC comics

jimSurfing the Internet on Superman, you often come across the three "ages": The Golden Age, the Silver Age and the Bronze Age. Who originally came up with these ages and what were the reasons given for the choices?

My pleasure, @Gallifreyan. That sentence threw me for a real loop until I figured out what you meant.
(responding here because I can't comment on the literature site without 50 points)
(also assuming your the same Gallifreyan)

@Mithrandir Ooh, now that would be nice. Every site I start on I can do nothing but ask or answer.
