Just realized that you can't search this room for messages about science, since every feed post automatically has the word science in it.

Meh, science is overrated.
Besides, isn't science off-topic on this site?

But there were some interesting discussions in this room a while back about some science experiments.
Now it's hard to find them.

Q: I'm working on a Star trek book that involves the Borg

Brandon WrayI was just wondering, are projectile weapons like rifles, shotguns and machine guns, can penetrate through the Borg Drone sheild? Can they adapt to the "premitive weapon" as Captain Picard references in First Contact? What about a railgun? If they do please inform. I was wanting to know a differe...

Q: 2D RPG Fantasy PC Flash Game with 3 Characters - Ghost, Witch and Vampire

NolamiaI couldn't find the game or the name of the game I played in the 2000s and was looking to see if anyone remember it. It wasn't a very popular game, and I believe I played it on PC on an online website for flash games. It has similar art style as "The Dead Case" by Retshark, as it is 2D with the ...

Q: Who built the Whitewater Resort in The Cityborn?

hexamonIn Edward Willet's novel The Cityborn there is a chapter set in The Whitewater Resort. As I remember it, it is never explicitly stated who built this resort and why. It is never mentioned again after the story moves on. So, am I missing something and it is in fact stated explicitly who built it ...

Should we synonymise or merge into ?
I don't see any added value in the former. While genre tropes may be distinct from regular tropes, our stack is all genre anyway.
Additionally, tropes are easily recognisable as belonging to a given genre.
Should I take it to meta?

Q: Story set on a planet/sun moving through our solar system with alien life experiencing many generations for a human generation

armitageI'm trying to find a story set on a planet/sun moving through our solar system with alien life experiencing many generations for a human generation. Anyone got any ideas?

@SQB Meh, do it if you want to be all open or whatever, but quite frankly it's such an obvious case I'd be raising a flag, or retagging them myself I think

"IkWeetHetOokNiet" = "I don't know either" in Dutch.

I know :-)
Makes for a good confusing conversation when someone asks what the name means.

@Randal'Thor I'm a French googling buff. Does that count?

@Jenayah IIRC, the OP of that question doesn't use Google, so maybe.
(He prefers DuckDuckGo.)

@Randal'Thor well, it's a Wikipedia thing at the end of the day
At work and phone lagging like crazy so won't answer till tonight, but basically it refers to two publishing houses in those streets. Go ahead and write it if you want

Q: Kindle superhero series including an army guy in powered armor, a self-aware robot, and a teleporting thief

FuzzyBootsI first read this around 2015, I think. There were at least three books in the series maybe four. Q: What does it means to be a "descendant" in the Transformers movie universe?

@Jenayah I want to like it, but not quite.

fair enough

I think that currently, I have about five French language songs in my library. Considering it's the only non-English language I've ever studied, I'm always interested in adding more.

What kind of music?

Though, in truth, I just like music that I enjoy, regardless of language.
Anything really, though I tend to like more music that is more or less pop/rock. I also like classical, big band, and even some jazz and country.

@Donald.McLean wouldn't have classified that as pop/rock

Q: Why is the "Law of Surprise" so important in the Witcher's world?

SekhemtyThe Law of Suprise, in the Witcher's world, is a tradition dictating that someone who saves another men's life has the right to demand as a payment something unknown to both persons; a typical request is "What you find at home yet don't expect", and often this would be a child born during the fat...

@Jenayah In my mind pop/rock is a spectrum that starts just past easy listening and goes all the way to death metal. Generally, though, I'm not much for putting music into genres.

'k

I kinda like having (even nebulous) musical genres, partly because it gives me a bit of an idea what I'm getting, but mostly because it helps me avoid C&W.

C&W?
Country and Western?
Classical and Worshipping?
Crickets and Wombats?

10:00 PM
The first. The other 2 I'd probably be willing to give a shot.

:o !
I was throwing that at random.

What, now you're saying there's something wrong with Wombats?

Not really, just that crickets and wombats music isn't an actual genre

But it should be! :)

You go gather the crickets, I'll fetch some wombats

I had a friend who vowed he never wanted to visit Spain. Therefore on any list he had to make that included a number of things he really didn't want to do (nasty chores, tedious work, etc.) he could always put "visit Spain" at the end of the list, and he could feel better about doing all the preceding things on the list.

ahah! Where woudl that come from?

I can similarly put "listen to country&western" on any list of things I'm not thrilled about listening to. It would make me feel better about listing to Kidz Bop.

what's that?

It's an example; it's not actually what my young relatives are listening to, but it's an exemplar of the type.
Huh. French people have more taste than Germans. Who'd have imagined that? ;)

m'okay...

10:15 PM
(There's a Kidz Bop UK, a Kidz Bop España and a Kidz Bop Germany, but no Kidz Bop France.)
Apparently the Germans have given up on Deutschland too.

@DavidW thanks, we'vve already got enough to do with the Kids United whateves

Appears to be much the same thing, though maybe a bit less overproduced. Still not something I want to listen to, much less as repeatedly as a 6-year-old will.
Nevertheless, it's still better than listening to C&W!

Main country I'm not a fan of, dark country I enjoy a lot.
Background western music I like as wel.

Taste is personal; I'm not trying to say anything about people whose taste differs from mine. Even within genres I will listen to - or even like - there are singers and groups whose sound simply makes me mental.

Dang, I can't find a clip of the Penguins of Madagascar scene with them breaking into Fort Knox by playing a country music recording into the voice recognition thiingy.
@DavidW agreed, same

Q: Explain the plot of Season 2 finale of Lost in Space (2018)

JenayahI have a recollection of a relatively short (20 pages?) comic I read somewhere in the mid-2000s, 2005 to 2008 most likely.
