Q: The Quiet Earth movie, did I miss something?

Maury MarkowitzI just finished The Quiet Earth and I'm wondering if I managed to miss something. At the start of the movie, there is quite a bit of imagery showing 6:12 on various clocks. During the movie, the three characters meet and recognize each other, notably the Ari scene. Reading the Wiki article on t...

Q: Is there a consensus on tagging solved story ID's with the name of the author/story?

JohnPThere is this meta question, which doesn't have an accepted answer/practice associated with it. I am asking, because this question was edited citing the above example, and promptly re-edited essentially because "I don't agree with that meta". Is there a meta resolving this that I missed in my...

gee bot you're late

Perhaps a lock is appropriate after all.

not really, see comments

9:10 PM
The comments don't change the fact that there is an ongoing non-constructive war.

well the comments have been deleted anyways ;)

@Jenayah Yeah, at the moment, those aren't really all that reassuring.

@RDFozz well when I posted the message you replied to, there was only a "oh sorry I hadn't seen the new meta" so i thought it was the end

(Or, I guess, befoere they got deleted, they weren't, with Andres F saying he was going to write his own answer to the meta, so you and Valorum could downvote it.

@Jenayah Fair enough.

@Jenayah In the words of the immortal (but dead) Yogi Berra, "It ain't over 'til it's over."

@RDFozz yeah that irked me a bit tbh

@RDFozz It clearly was over, then.

@AndresF. If I were a user unfamiliar with SE editing practices, and I saw a question tagged #dune asking to identify something which was clearly Dune, I'd probably think it was some sort of troll. Like the ID question we once had about Twilight which was a copy-paste of the Twilight Wikipedia page with the names removed. — Rand al'Thor ♦ 34 secs ago
@Randal'Thor what was that? ahah

@Jenayah I thought it was a logical and well-thought out response, tbl
"to blatantly lie"

oh
took you to the word for a second :p

@Jenayah I'd think you';d know me better than that by now :-)

@Randal'Thor can you undelete it so that I can downvote it and then redelete it?
@RDFozz :p

@Jenayah No. :-P

@RDFozz Unless everything you've said until now was just to establish your cover to be able to make this comment.

@Randal'Thor Only 4,208 rep to go until I can see that :-)

@Randal'Thor mais euh

It's a pity @Gall lost rep out of that.
But them's the breaks.

@Alex There's nothing I love better than pretending to be a nice guy for months, just to eventually reveal that I'm a stupid jerk.

@RDFozz I'm guessing I should understand this comment in light of everything I know about you?

@RDFozz What are you waiting for? Get to it :-)

9:21 PM
@Jenayah Merci, mlle.

@Jenayah Holy sh*t, that was nearly 2 years ago?!
How time flies.

@Randal'Thor how'd you find it back?
@RDFozz de rien!

@Jenayah Searched for forks deleted:1.

@Randal'Thor Dude, half the time I can't get LQP submitted before it's closed, much less finish an entire answer. It took me 6 minutes to reply to your comment!

@RDFozz well you do write some long answers :)

Q: who can defeat darkseid and how?

kingskullSince the dawn of justice movie and the relationship between stephenking and darkseid i did some research and found out that darkseid is litterally the most powerfull villian in dc comics So it came up to my mind who can stop him??!

Q: Why did this character die in Bumblebee?

ThomasDuring the final fight the character: I'm wondering how that was possible? Was the item somehow inside some specific weakpoints of the character or how/why did he die there? (naturally in universe explanation sought after....out of universe...rule of cool :) )

9:32 PM
@Alex I'm sorry to hear that.However, you should watch what you say - this is why people think you're a robot, instead of a bathtub or baby elephant.
Except Jenayah.

@RDFozz Jenayah is the main propounder of those theories.

Oh, I think I misread that.

@Marvin I always knew there was a relationship between Stephen King and Darkseid.
@Randal'Thor No, I'm in that place between Canada and Mexico. The big one, with all the people embarassed about who our president is right now? That one.

@RDFozz I heard there was a country over there. Don't know much about it except to avoid.

9:36 PM
@Alex I've never said you were a baby elephant. Your mother being an elephant doesn't forbid you being human, and reverse

@RDFozz You mean wannabe Canada?

@Randal'Thor Much harder to avoid from the inside....

@Jenayah Really?
> "Only an elephant or a whale gives birth to a creature that weighs more than 100 kilograms," said Tweedledumb. "Right?"
"I suppose," said Tweedledim.
"The President weighs 101 kilograms," said Tweedledumb.
"Uh-oh," said Tweedledim. "I can see exactly where you're going and I don't..."
"Therefore," said Tweedledumb...
"The President's mother is either an elephant or a whale!" they yelled in chorus.

@Jenayah True. I was responding within RDFozz's conception.

@Alex Hey, leave my mom out of this!

9:39 PM
@RDFozz My apologies.

@Alex I don't want details about RDFozz's conception, thank you very much.

@RDFozz On avait dit pas les mamans!

@Mithrandir Hey, me neither!

@Mithrandir But you're okay with details about my conception?
Argh, another misreading.
I guess I'm having a bad day.

@Alex I felt bad for not putting a smiley-face at the end - felt better when everyone else got my meaning, though. Don't worry, my friend - we all have our off days.
I've often said, sometimes I see 2 + 2 and think, "Hey, nice two plus two!"

Darkseid, being a "supposedly unstoppable villain", has been defeated by a lot of heroes. Hence, I'm voting to close this as "too broad". — Jenayah 13 mins ago
@jenayah so why he is supposedly unstoppable?! — kingskull 3 mins ago
@kingskull comic books rules. Introduce a villain described as unstoppable, make him defeat your hero in the first place, then have said hero kick his butt. Repeat for 50+ years while varying the hero/team. Kill a good guy sometimes, for good measure, but be sure to resurrect the character later (as it makes $$$). Here, I've resumed the whole comic book industry. :) (don't get me wrong, though: I love comics.)Jenayah 29 secs ago

@Jenayah Instead of thinking, "4". Like knowing "It's Tuesday", adn that "I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday", bot not thinking "... so, I need to leave for my doctor's appointment in 10 minutes."

Argh, another misreading.

Nov 2 '18 at 12:46, by Jenayah
@TheLethalCarrot "oh my God it's spreading!"
@Valorum One more thing, and please consider it a genuine question: in the meta question you claim is a duplicate, the argument seems to be "Should we tag [...]", which I think is what Jenayah was arguing (imagine if we had to tag thousands of questions). But one could honestly make the point (which has just occurred to me, if I'm honest) that the question is asking whether we must tag them, i.e. that policy is we should always tag them. If so, a negative vote simply means "no, we're not obligated to tag them" but it doesn't mean "we cannot tag them". <continued> — Andres F. 1 min ago
@Valorum <cont'd> Don't worry, I won't tag it and won't use this argument to tag it. But I wonder if the meta could be more clearly worded: "must" instead of "should", to make it clear it's not the alternative (and also valid) intepretation. I ask this because it never occurred to me that if we tagged this question [dune] we would be forced to tag every id question! — Andres F. 1 min ago

JKR maths - the official mathematics of SFF.SE!

By the way, blaming Rowling for maths is probably a misnomer. I suspect it's more a lack of thinking things through than a mathematical disability.

Should "JKR", "JK Rowling" and such be added as blacklisted usernames to Mathematics's Smokey?

Eh fair point
Although well she's not rethinking herself is she? :^)

For instance, I don't think she thinks that 5x2x7x4=1,000. I imagine she just never bothered to think through the implications of showing five students in a dormitory, and so she just said there were 1,000 students.

Q: Was it just coincidence that "Barad-dûr?" sounds like an English phrase?

TangoThe first time I heard someone talk about Barad-dûr, I thought they were talking about a "barred door." The meaning would be more than appropriate. Is there any chance Tolkien happened to realize he could do this, using his own Middle Earth languages, as a bit of an inside joke? Or is it just ...

Ah, so it's not a math flaw... It's never having had to share a dorm ;p

Now it could be related to math. I imagine that someone who is very mathematical might unconsciously realize that 1,000 students wouldn't work with the dormitory situation described. So it could be that she is bad at math and that caused her to not realize that there would be a discrepancy.

11:26 PM
So, she's bad at math. :^)

Possibly, but I think that would only be indirectly responsible for the math issues in the books.

@Jenayah No - being British, she's bad at maths :-)

Fair nuff

Or maybe Jenayah's bad at spelling.

11:44 PM
It's not spelling, it's English not being my native tongue, so I don't have UK/US spelling habits
I read English everyday but it's got both UK/US spellings so basically I don't care :P (when I chat; when I hand an essay I generally write it in US spelling)

I was joking. It's perfectly okay to use either one. (Just don't tell Rand.)

Actually I tailor UK/US spelling depending on the teacher. Helps gather some easy points :P

There's got to be a program that automatically converts it.

@Jenayah how's my answer?

both answers are nice; I do happen to remember the first video you linked
On a technical nitpick I'm not so sure about the Google link as we usually prefer to have the answer in the answer (rotting links and all that) but it's on ebig block of text so it's an odd case here

11:56 PM
@Jenayah Which link?

the link you used to host your txt file
But now I'm torn since I have two great answers ahah

@Jenayah I'll archive it

(I upvoted both, by the way)
hmmm does the archive save the file too?

or just the link?

I'd put it on GitHub, but it wouldn't be anonymous (and I have accounts on all my emails which also aren't)

I mean if we check today it probably still works since the file is in the Drive or stuff, but if it happens to be removed what happens to the link?

@Jenayah It should still be there
I think it's like a .mhtml and stores all the files within

@Stormblessed mmmh,I was aabout to suggest Pastebin but it's not great with formatting, last time I checked
