7:21 PM
@Boob should be now ;)

7:32 PM
@Takkat Wooohooo.

Outspoken is much harder to get.
But if there will be an active chat here maybe not
@Boob just checking - they seem not to update usernames in chatroom
no, they don't.

Yes, I changed it yesterday but still people call me Boob

well, you're still not listed as @Explorer here in chat.
did you get a notification?

Nope
"Talkative" badge?

Explorer has it. Boob does not exist. Weird

7:42 PM
GL&U Room is going to be frozen

frozen why?

Everyone is on silent mode =\

ssh - in case someone sleeps.

Silent because watching Edel & Starck, season 2, episode 12... Not sleeping yet ;)

the advocates? Never saw it - I tend to avoid watching series

7:47 PM
shhh , in case of watching movies , especially season 2 of it

Episode 12!

I'm thinking of how to make others awake.

TV is always louder :/

@Takkat: I love it. It's a German Abklatsch of Ally McBeal, yet has enough character on its own. I also don't watch series in TV typically except for Sunday, but like watching them on DVD (or, in this case, VoD) :)

I had my harddisk attached to the TV in case I may need it.
But this didn't happen.
Maybe I remove it again.

7:53 PM
@Takkat Let's shout out loud

does not work

You'll need it as soon as you remove , I bet
We missed one user =\

Tim?

Hallo , llo , o , o (echoes)
@toscho

I once woke up half of SE
This was embarrassing.
I thought chat flags are for the one site only

7:57 PM
Which one?

As soon as you flag a chat message all >10k users on all sites get a notice.
(wouldn't matter if noone is online - but they were)

Wah, I didn't know that

I know now. I said it was embarassing..

I don't know , even now

maybe it's only mods - but I've heard that you get chat flags when >10k too

Q: Is there an "etw." that shows grammatical case?

TimI've been learning verbs and their prepositions with a list like this: sich mit jdm. treffen sich über jdn. ärgern sich von jdm. trennen Jemanden/jemandem are great for this purpose, since I can learn the phrase in a form that is close to actual usage, while still learning the correct case af...

:)

By the way, your profile is the most complete ever
I can't understand the question =/

it's sufficient, isn't it?
@Boob he's asking for a replacement of "etwas"

Tim
Looks like I'll have to start "Q: Is there a verb that only takes things, not persons?"

Anyway, Tim is a question-producer .. at the speed of creativity
@Takkat Yes but what does it mean

Tim
8:08 PM
@Boob: Well, if German was a little easier, that wouldn't be necessary :)

@Tim That's damn right.

@Tim Was Deine Frage angeht, ich kann Dir versichern, dass es genug Deutsche gibt, die genau da auch ihre Schwierigkeiten haben.

Tim
@Takkat Super, das klingt fair :)

I'm feeling dumb, I can't understand the question

Tim
8:12 PM
Aber ich wäre gern besser als ein Muttersprachler.

;)
brb

Tim
Irgendwie glaube ich dass mein Satz nicht korrekt war...

@Tim: Welcher Satz?

Tim
@OregonGhost Der Sternsatz, 22:12.

@Tim: Da ist aus meiner Sicht alles absolut korrekt

Tim
8:15 PM
Achso! Super.
@Boob: The verbs "sich treffen" needs a preposition + dative object, usually written like "sich mit jemandeM treffen". If I learn that phrase, I won't need to remember that it's a dative object. With "sich über jemandeN ärgern", it's accusative because of jemanden. In some verbs though, it doesn't make sense to use jemanden/jemandem. Unfortunately, etwas is the same in the accusative and dative, so I can't say "sich über etwas ärgern" and remember the case of the object.

8:41 PM
@Tim sich etw. von jdm. erhoffen?
@Tim Thanks for clarification

Tim
@Boob: I think that's a good example. No preposition before etw. though.

@Tim It's terribly hard, I'd rather answer another question, no thanks. Huh.

Tim
At least you've managed to answer something!
I'm a little embarassed here with a load of questions and no answers.
The community should ask more simple questions, preferrably right when I refresh the front page.

@Tim You're trying to prove that the probability of dumb user is more than smart ones?

Tim
@Boob What? I don't understand.

8:48 PM
@Tim Gib es auf, ich habe auch nicht verstanden

Tim
Ok :)

We're suffering lack of experts, somehow.

Tim
The community?
I think we've got a couple of native German linguists.

Yum.
Let's star each other.
@Tim darf ich dir etwas fragen? bitte?

Tim
Klar

8:57 PM
"Unfortunately, etwas is the same in the accusative and dative, so I can't say "sich über etwas ärgern" and remember the case of the object." So what do you want?
Sorry for being extremely dumb.

@Boob: Wenn es dich interessiert: Es heißt "Darf ich dich etwas fragen?" :)

Tim
I want a word with approx. the same meaning as "etwas", but that has different forms in accusative and dative, like "jemanden"/"jemandem".
@OregonGhost Echt? Zwei Ackusativ?

@OregonGhost Wah, tut mir wirklich leid, ich kann kein Deutsch
@Tim Hooray, got it finally.

Tim
Great :D

@Boob: Ja, eben, jetzt kannst du es etwas besser ;)

9:01 PM
@OregonGhost Yup, danke.

@Tim: Ja, zweimal. Hihi, bei dem Beispiel könnte man etwas nicht durch jemanden ersetzen: "Jemanden etwas fragen"... Kniffliges Beispiel passend zu deiner Frage :X

Tim
@OregonGhost: Haha, danke. Ich will meine Frage editen :)

Wie dem auch sei. Ich geh. Gute Nacht.

Tim
Gute Nacht.

Gute Nacht @OregonGhost

9:04 PM
@OregonGhost Nacht.

Tim
@Boob Anyway, did you find the answer to your adjective-declension question?

@Tim Not yet

Tim
@Boob The adjective is never inclined if it follows one of the verbs sein, werden, bleiben, heißen, gelten als and sich erweisen.
Then it's a Subjektsprädikativ. See:
In grammar, a predicative is an element of the predicate of a sentence which supplements the subject or object by means of the verb. A predicative may be nominal or adjectival (and also adverbial). If the complement after a linking verb is a noun or a pronoun, it is called a predicate nominative. If the complement after a linking verb is an adjective, it is called a predicate adjective. :He seems nice. (adjectival predicative of the subject) :Bob is a postman. (nominal predicative of the subject) :We painted the door white. (adjectival predicative of the object) :They elected him presid...

@Tim Which question you mean?
singular verb for plural subject?

Tim
Genau.

9:14 PM
"Famillie" = "Subjektsprädikativ"?

Tim
"geil" = Subjektsprädikativ
Familie = Subjekt

Aha, got it .
Thanks a lot @Tim
Should I post it now? ;)

Tim
Sure. You already know the answer though :p

I'm an ethical lady, When I promise I have to do. Huh.

Time for me to leave. Gute Nacht und bis morgen vielleicht.

Tim
9:23 PM
Gute Nacht @Takkat

@Takkat Gute Nacht.
@Tim does this one match your case?
"sich nur noch dunkel erinnern an"
(akkusativ)

Tim
@Boob Meinst du, wie eine Antwort für meine etw-Frage?

@Tim Genau

Tim
@Boob Ich suche ein Wort, das geht mit jeden Verb und Präposition

XD Ok.
I made you angry.

Tim
9:38 PM
Hm, ich vergaß den Smilie :)
Keine Wut.

auf jdn/etw eine wut haben

@Tim "jeden" oder "jemanden"? o.O

Tim
@Tomalak Mit jedem Verb. Jeden war Betonungskursiv, nicht Zitatkursiv.

@Tim "jedem", dann.

Tim
Ah, danke.

9:43 PM
@Tim ;-) Akkusativ.

Tim
@Tomalak Auch für "mit jedem Verb und Präposition"? Ich denke das es plural ist.

Let's kill ourselves for German cases

@Tim "mit jedem Verb und (jeder) Präposition", ja

Tim
@Boob I studied Russian before German. Only four cases is great.
@Tomalak Aha, ich verstehe. Danke.

@Tim Agree. Sprichst du noch Russisch?

Tim
9:45 PM
@Tomalak нет.

@Tim Ich auch nicht :\

Tim
I've even forgotten where the characters are on the keyboard, it took a long time to write the above.

@Tim I would have copied it off GT ;)

Tim
@Tomalak :) Clever.

So sieht's aus. ;)

9:48 PM
Even worse =D

Tim
Copying related sentences from ru.wikipedia.org would seem a bit suspicious, though.

@Boob If I wouldn't already know the cases, I would have my issues with them myself. ;)

@Tomalak Like what I do now. Hihi.
It was unrelated.
@Tim Wie bitte?

Tim
10:11 PM
@Boob Was?

@Tim Wer?
(it wasn't me)
It would be nice if we could remove users.

Tim
Warum?

nur so.

Tim
It would be nice if I spoke German.
Like, correctly.

Warum?

Tim
10:17 PM
Then I could answer a few questions here, too.

Then what would happen?

Tim
I'd derive satisfaction from it. But of course, life is pointless anyway.

Life is life. lala la lala.

Tim
10:47 PM
Gute Nacht!

@Tim Gute Nacht, schlaf gut.

11:26 PM
Gute Nacht, ob da noch jemand ist.

@Boob Gute Nacht. :)
