Welcome to chat for: Internet of Things
This is a general discussion room, but please feel free to create more subject-specific rooms (a single room with every possible discussion isn't very helpful)

That is what I meant by I2P.^
@Ghanima Hi! :)

Hi, Henry

How are things (As a Mod?)

10:15 PM
I am not a mod, well at least not at IoT

@HenryWHHackv2.0 lets hope so and work towards it
@HenryWHHackv2.0 there are no mods (pro tem) appointed yet

Can you make me a room owner? Please.
Oh yes I must earn room ownership not ask for it.
Well it was nice having this friendly chat with you @Ghanima. :)

Howdy, tbm & videonauth

@tbm0115 and @Videonauth Thanks for joining the party! :)
I invited Videonauth

Hello all

o/ all

I was here first.

Nice to finally get the site up finally, eh?
@HenryWHHackv2.0 I had trouble finding it :P

Yay! Chat room!

Hi guys

Hi! :)

Hi Helmar & 10

(not even posted)

I meant the I2P.SE site was not a success but I believe this site will be a huge success (Notice: I said I believe)

Q: On-Topicness of the question "OCF membership levels"

HelmarI wanted to bring this to meta. What are the differences of the Open Connectivity Foundation membership levels? I have two points I want to address in that question and ask meta if we should accept such questions. Firstly, that information seems easily researchable. Sure, you gotta read that ...

Scope question, go :)
Can I somehow access the area 51 example questions?

10:34 PM
@HenryWHHackv2.0 Thx, I just wanted to look at them.

@Helmar as in "now starts the run to ask them again"?
;)

@Ghanima Nah, that'd be bad style
Besides my own of course, I am precog after all ;)

@Helmar it is, but there's always the dark side in us and the need for rep

@Ghanima True
However I was more looking after the stuff we closed there already

yeah, as long as it helps to narrow down what should be on-topic or not

Q: How can I properly test my device's PCB antenna?

DomI'm in the middle of testing a ZWave device I created with a PCB antenna. I want to make sure that the antenna gives a good range and signal strength generated is strong enough and comparable to similar devices in the field. So how can I properly range test my device?

Q: Vote Early, Vote Often (Seriously)

DomI’ll start by echoing the message from other sites that went through beta, voting helps us define the scope of the site and figure out who the experts are. To quote the Vote early, vote often blog post: Putting voting front and center is very much intentional; it is how good content is voted ...

When a new SE site is in the private beta I always post the first questions of the main site and the meta.

It's embarrassing when I make errors like this: chat.stackexchange.com/messages/33952690/history

Eh, did I miss something?

A: Testing the success of Over the Air updates

HelmarIt's all about a smart synchronization policy You need a smart synchronization policy that works in tandem with your roll-out approach of your update. The most obvious point in time where the IoT device should sync its version is directly after the update. The rest of the sync schedule is highly...

@Gilles Welcome! :)
Oh yes I forgot Serg.

Gilles has made a change to the feeds posted into this room
Gilles has made a change to the feeds posted into this room
Gilles has made a change to the feeds posted into this room

I've added a feed to post a link to all meta questions, and to main site questions with a bounty, into this room.
Many sites have this, but if you disagree feel free to pipe up
In a few minutes the meta feed will wake up and post all the meta questions so far into this room

@Gilles what about the regular questions
We won't be overrun with that feed for a while

@Helmar For that I think it's best to keep a tab open on the main site

On the contrary that bounty feed might be of very limited use until people got some more reputation

11:56 PM
Sure, the bounty feed won't be useful for a few days, but after that it does give them a bit more exposure

Eh, even the English.SE has a recent questions feed and I am regularly in that room
That does not get flooded
We are years from those question levels

I only know of one site (Science Fiction & Fantasy) that posts all main site questions to the chat room, and that's only because it got into the habit of doing this years ago when the main site didn't have automatic refresh, so it was a way to get passive notice of new questions.
@Helmar Do they? I thought they'd given it up
But given how active the ELU chatroom is, I guess the feed gets lost in the mass
On a typical site this is not the case

My bad we don't

Q: Critic Badge not activated

tbm0115I know that I've down-voted, but the Critic badge has not been applied. I don't know if this is a bug or there is a purposeful delay.

Q: Chat unavailable from navigation bar

tbm0115I've reached a point on a question that it's better to use the Chat system instead of comments, but can't for some reason. Should the Chat option be available for the site yet, or is that once the site is public? It appears the chat button from the "StackExchange" menu item redirects to 3D Pri...

Q: Keeping tags clean from the start

HelmarI want to provide some basic reminders regarding tags. As many of you will know from the other SE sites you participate in, tags are not on the top of the pile functionality wise in the SE sites. However if we keep it a sensible taxonomy from the start we have a good chance to make it better. Le...

Q: Smart-Things vs Smartthings

Helmarsmartthings has been created and I get an annoying warning when trying to change it to smart-things. Generally all multi-word tags should be hyphenated. Can we please change the tag name. Since it is a product name / trademark we should likely have one called samsung-smartthings too. We already ...

Forget everything I said
Oh, I was talking about a way less invasive feed
